When was the last time a 9 game world series was played??
I know they bounced back and forth between a 7 game and a 9 game format for about 20 years in the early 1900s.   My best guess is in the early 1920s.

1921 was the last 9 game series? New York Giants beat the New York Yankees 5-3?

That is correct sir.

I had to throw that out there, because as a Reds fan, it's the about the only thing I have to be proud of these days.

But hey, I think we're getting closer.

But hey, I think we're getting closer. Everything's starting to come together for you guys... Homer Bailey could be everything you thought he was... if you're familiar with my posts, you'd know I've been telling you reds fans to cut the guy some slack for almost 2 years... A healthy Volquez will go a long way next year... Johnny Cueto needs to learn to win early.

Joey Votto and Jay Bruce give that lineup some umph it hasn't had in a LONG time... I REALLY think Adam Dunn woulda made you guys a .500 team this year (maybe 81-83)

Agreed. The guy is 23, has made around 30 career starts, and the fans wanted to ride him out of town on a rail. He was impressive down the stretch, which is promising.

A healthy Volquez will go a long way next year

Unfortunetly, Volquez won't be back until the AS break next year at the earliest. Not counting on him for 2010, but hopefully he comes back strong in 2011. Losing him is a huge blow.

Johnny Cueto needs to learn to win early.

I think Cueto will continue to get better. He had a tired arm in the 2nd half, but he is nasty. The more experience he gets, the better he'll be.

Joey Votto and Jay Bruce give that lineup some umph it hasn't had in a LONG time

Votto is fantastic, Bruce needs to hit higher than the 217 he put up this year, but I'm confident that he will. He's only 22.

I REALLY think Adam Dunn woulda made you guys a .500 team this year

Amen. Giving up Dunn was a terrible move in my opinion, especially for worthless Micah Owings. Hell, they got a stud reliever in Nick Masset for a washed up Griffey, they should've gotten better value for Dunn if they insisted on trading him. Aaron Harang is a big key for the Reds. I'm not sure what has happened to him. He was a really good pitcher for 3 or 4 years, and has been awful the last 2. Him bouncing back next year will be a huge factor in whether or not the Reds are any good next year.
