I finally got the time to visit a practice this morning, and boy did it stink.  Fortunatley, the stench was from the Professional Bull Riders event and not from the Rebels.  I really enjoy the practices and marvel at how hard they go each time out.

A few observations...  Chace Stanback was practicing, which is great news, however, he did look rusty and his conditioning isn't where it needs to be.   I'm sure he'll improve quickly now that he can go on the ankle again.

Anthony Marshall was going at what appeared to be full speed.  This guy wiill definitley contribute, beginning this year.

Brice Massamba is playing on a swollen knee and is not going at full speed.   Hopefully that won't cause him to fall to far behind.

Darris Santee is playing the way the coaches expected him too when they recruited him out of junior college in Texas.  I think he will be the starter at the five spot, at least at the first of the year.

Derrick Jasper has the chance to be one of the best point guard UNLV has ever had.   The guy is really smooth and sees the court very well.  Oscar also looks very good at the point and I think he will also play along side Derrick very often.

I've not been a huge fan of Tre'von in the past as I thought he forced way to much, and made bad decisons at the point.  I'm changing my opinion pretty quickly because he really looks comfortable on the wing, and will definitely be a scorer.

Kendall Wallace will get minutes and is going to the rim a lot more then in the past.  Steve Jones will get some solid minutes, and Justin Hawkins is a player as well.  I really think the team is going to be solid this year, and I think both a MWC Championship and a MWC tournament championship are realistic goals.

It was also nice to Shabazz Mahummad at the practice with his father and brother.  Nigel Williams-Goss, a freshmen at Findlay Prep was also there along with Shabazz.  It would be nice to see those guys in Rebel red in a few years.

MWCguy great report I love the update.  Pretty exicted to hear Shabazz was there I would love to be abel to land him.  I am excited for this years team.  The Sun had an pretty good write up about Quintrell and he was very optimistic about this team.  I can't wait for November tenth I will be making the 6 hour drive to the game then 6 more hours home as soon as it ends.  The Rebelution is 10 days away from beginning.  GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to get a progress report.

How did Lopez look??

I'm not worried about Chace getting back into game shape. He has 10 days until Washburn and 2 weeks until the opener. In that time he can find his rhythm with his jump shot and his teammates.

Hmmm, I really hope that Massamba's knee is ok. The last thing we need is for him to lose 40 lbs and then have a lingering knee injury effect him the rest of the season.

Beyond that, i can't wait to celebrate the 20 year anniversary with everyone at the T&M

RR90   Carlos looked pretty good, much better then he did at the "First Look" a couple of weeks ago.  He runs very well and gets up and down the court efficiently, and goes hard.  He will help out at times this year, but I think Santee's experience gives him the edge for priority minutes early in the season.

Thanks for the update on Lopez MWCguy. I am very excited to see what he can grow into as a player here at UNLV. I don't think we've ever had a 6'11-7'0 player with as much potential as Lopez has. I truly believe we're going to see Lopez contribute a lot this season. His basketball IQ alone will help us tremendously. I absolutely love a center who can pass the ball like he does. Good to hear that he isn't digressing at all.

As for Santee all indications so far are that he's really blossomed as a player in the off season. This is a pretty common occurrence with 2nd year JUCO players under Kruger. I would really like to see Santee playing the 4 as opposed to the 5 spot though. Last year he got really overwhelmed playing center. I think he would make the biggest impact as a PF coming off the bench.

Thanks for the report.  It sounds like we're moving in the right direction, however, I'm still skeptical until I see this team in action.  Sorry to be pessimistic, but the energy I put into the team last year with 3 returning seniors from our Sweet 16 trip & beating Louisville they way we did without Wink, has me watching with a jaded eye right now.  Can't wait til the season start so those memories can be ereased.

Thanks for taking the time to give us the update.  I agree with Psmall, I am excited about this team but still a little apprehensive as well.  I hope that we gel early and with the depth we have on the bench we should be able to get fresh legs on the court to give solid "differing" looks.  But, only time will tell.

I agree with Runninrebl90

I think Santee whould be at the 4 position and shaw should also. I also think Lopez and Massamba should play the 5 position and that chace should play the 3. I'm sick of not having a big, physical team on the floor, and when Chace goes to the bench for a breather then bring out the three guard line-up.

I'm just sick of being out rebounded pure and simple!
