I broke down the remaing schedule and teams with 2 wins to see where we may fall for out pick in April. We are going to assume that these teams will take the 1st 5 picks in no random order and what I think they will pick. I exceluded Tenn because I think they will rebound in the 2nd half of the year:
Cleveland - Running Back Tampa Bay - Defensive KC - WR/Running back or maybe QB STL - QB Detroit - Defense or Oline
Here are the remaining 2 win teams and their remaining schedule. I'll tell you what, not favorable for Redskins Nation to win many more
SkinsBuf Oakland Seattle
@ Atl Bye Bye Detroit Denver @Tenn KC @AZ @Dal @Jack Cinci @Minn @Phil Miami @Dallas @STL NO NYJ @PItt San Fran @Oak @KC Washington @Houston NYG NE @Denver TB DAL @Atl @Cleveland @GB @SD Indy Baltimore Seattle. My prediction given the current state of the Washington Redskins we may be lucky to win 1 more game (how damn sad is that?). I think Seattle and Oakland have the 2 more favorable schedules and I do think there may be some 3 win teams out there that can fall apart in the last portion of the year too (Jacksonville)
I still put us within picks 6-10 in the upcoming draft
Is anyone else that upset about getting Jarmon for a 3rd rounder? Remember this guy was suspended and had he not, he would of been a 1st or 2nd rounder. He's shown some flashes and do think he has a better shot at being a starter next year. Personally I'm optomistic of the D.Line of Jarmon, Golston, Albert H, and Carter. That's a solid front 4 but here is the kicker - we have some YOUTH.
Let's face it, we are going to have 2 of the top 38 (probably picks) in this upcoming draft. As of now we'd have the 6th or 7th pick and we don't have a favorable schedule to win a bunch more games
How about this option:
Trade the first pick down to middle/end of round 1 and pickup another 1 and another 2 and 3 (depending on where we move down to). Few of these QBs will be on the board come middle/late first round because some of the middle of the road teams do not need a QB. Few of the QBs like : McCoy, Bradford, Pike and Locker will be gone within the top 12 picks but probably not all but there still should be a Snead, Zac Robinson or Lefevour around with pick 17-25.
If I was in the postion to give up pick 7 in the draft to secure pick 22 and pick 64 (3rd round) I'd do it. We'd have 3 of the top 64 (pick 22 and pick 39) players in the nation on our draft boards to secure a QB and 2 Hogs for the Oline.
Dline: Secure LB: Not going to find many impact players in round 4 and beyond, but worth addressing CB: Free Agency because we have Kevin Barnes that will be given a shot before too long S: No activity with Horton, Daughty and Landry TE: No activity WR: No activity RB: Yes, absolutely some game changer
and for those that hate Kelly and Thomas - if we can get a running game of any threat and an Oline to allow someone to throw they will be impact players in the NFL.
Hopefully vinny will be gone before draft day-- i like the idea of trading down from a top ten to bottom of the first and a third to grab up the safest bet like o-linemen. we could always grab up a journeyman like garcia or maybe even bulger will be available to step in while this team rebuilds. it has to start with that atrocious o-line first though. maybe somewhere in the 4th we could grab up a little speedy rb like the Eagles did with mccoy out of pitt.
McCoy is a straight hoss, he's a deisel type running back. More of a work horse type brother. But I agree, we need someone with fresh legs to come in and tear it up. And I'm standing by my Toby Gerhardt prediction. If we get him, I can see it now.
Toby: Hey Mr. Riggins, can I wear number 44?
Riggo: Only if I can give you a mowhawk....
Toby: FU****{KIN& A!
I still think we should dump Chris Cooley for some picks and shop LaRon Landry to the highest bidder, but apparently Landry is a beast...I just haven't noticed since Sean Taylor passed. If we can get Dan LeFevour, Toby Gerhardt and 3 offensive linemen in the first 4 rounds (two linemen coming from the second round and one from the fourth, Toby from the 5th), I call that a win for a draft class.
DC9. i do keep hearing that kid gerhardt's name more and more but being out here on the east coast i dont catch many of his games. i'll have to check him out.
It worries me that there are so many horrible teams out there this year. The Redskins offense is historically bad but the defense should be good for 2 to 3 more wins even with the schedule being tough. 4-12 is God awful but it may not even get the team in the top 5. Here is what I want to see out of the 2010 Redskins draft.
Round 1 - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St Round 2 - Ciron Black, OT, LSU
Announce an open competition in camp between the two with the winner becoming the starting left tackle and the loser becoming the starting right tackle.
I like okung from okla.state but he may not be there at around the 8th pick. There is another good tackle named trent williams from oklahoma if okung is gone. This team needs to do what the Jets did a couple years ago when they drafted safe bets with d'brickshaw ferguson and mangold to shore up the o-line.
Here are the remaining 2 win teams and their remaining schedule.
The season has a few more games, you might want to add Tampa. The way Tampa played today, we could end up with a decent 1st round pick. They could end up with a better record then the Skins.
But I'm sure Snyder will find a way to trade a #1 pick on an over the hill player or 2.
Wonder how it will end up if they do go with an OPEN Salary cap next year. I'd hate to see the budget for players Snyder signs, I just hope they can still play, and who's available... that's worth anything......
I still say we end up with the 4th overall pick. I don't think we win another game, but even if we do, I think we should still be low enough to get an impact player.
I think at best th Redskins go 3-13 (Atlanta's the second worts team we play for the rest of the season)....but odds are they go 2-14...i dont even think we can beat Oakland...its in Oakland...they can run the ball(3 tailbacks) we cant stop the run. They can stop the pass and rush the passer...we cant pass block, and we have 1 legit reciever so theres a real chance we loose 2 the Raiders and go 2-14.
Kansas City and Detroit both host Cleveland...(THANK GOD!!) and there both favorites against Cleveland...Tennessee gonna probably win around 6 games...so I think theres a majority chance we end up with the 4th pick... behind Tampa Bay,St. Louis, and Cleveland...
Cleveland- There taking a quarterback, probably Jimmy Clausen Tampa Bay- Right now it looks like they might take Suh out of Nebraska St. Louis is taking a quarterback, probably Jake Locker
If the Redskins have the 4th pick they HAVE TO take Russell Okung in the 1st round, and go Ciron Black in the 2nd round...ill take Jarmon for the 3rd round pick... and for the 4th rounder get a speed running back/kick returner (Rock Cartwright needs 2 go) back in Noel Devine from West Virginia or Joe Mcnight out of USC.
Also, since there are so many holes on this team, in important positions...there are allot of players that we can shop 2 get draft picks (assuming we get someone who can draft inn all 7 rounds, not just the 1st and 7th) and aa coaching staff that can develop talent,( i think with those two things you should be able to turn any 1st-4th round pick into a super bowl caliber starter):
Chris Cooley- we could probably get a 2nd round pick, theres holes on this team in more important positions, u dont need elite tight ends to win super bowls, if u can get a strong running game and 1 good deep reciever you can create a good tight end, even though hes a very good receiving tight End hes not a deep threat.... plus wach out for Jimmy Grahm the TightEnd out of Miami...he was on their bball team for 4 years like (Gonzalez and Gates)...but hes a real 6'8" 260, he runs a 4.5, and he has good hands raw, but with a WHOLE LOT of potential. London Fletcher- we can pull a late 2nd or early 3rd for him from a contending team, its time 2 see if H.B. Blades can play Clinton Portis -Same as Fletcher maybe we can get a 3rd-4th from a contender. HE NEEDS TO GO Santana Moss- Im shure theres a team who would give up a 3rd round pick for Santana. i wanna see what Marko Mitchell can do Andre Carter- If he can post 9 or 10 sacks, we can get a 4th rounder for him. hes old and maybe we can trade him high, b4 he dropsoff LaRon Landry- if theres a team that really needs safety help, maybe we can get a 3rd rounder (We have two solid safeties)
-This is based on the fact that our cap is maxed out, so we cant really sigh free agents, theres like 13 real holes on our roster 2 CB,1 MLB, 1 DT, 1 DE, 2 T, 2 G, 1 C, 1 WR, 2 RB.... and were honestly not goin 2 b good for the next three seasons (at the least)
Uptown - I agree with you on some points of trading players for picks
I wouldn't trade Cooley or Landry. Cooley is still one of the top 2-3 TE's in the NFC if NOT the NFL. He is the Dallas Clark of the NFC and we cannot afford to draft another TE as mentioned. I do think that Fred Davis could be this TE that we can need but he can't block. Ever notice that our Oline got even worse after Cooley got hurt? Get Davis to block better and we can look to do that. In the meantime, I'd shop around Davis for maybe a 5th rounder. I think his stock has risen because over the last few weeks (aside from the tip INT) he can catch and has a good game.
As for Landry, the dude either makes plays or wiffs on plays - yes he needs to tackle better, agree but he is still better than Horton and Reed Daughty. The dude can fly and still brings the thunder, although sometimes late hits.
Carter isn't that old, he'll be 30 at the start of next year, he is having a good year next to Big Al and I'm still confident with Jarmon, Carter, Golston and Al we have a solid front 4.
I'd love to see if this kid Barnes can play corner because we can get ride of Rodgers, Smoot will be gone too. I also agree we may need an upgrade at the LB postion. I love London, think we all do, but he isn't getting younger and its a matter of time there. I wouldn't shop him but would let him ride out his contract without taking a hit. I don't think he'll command much with his age in terms of draft picks. Think he is worth MUCH more than a 3rd rounder and a project player
If we don't get some quality Olineman in the free agent market, I mean young quality players we need to draft 6 Offensive Lineman. Everyone on our line (except Dock and Rabach) are backups to most every team if not even playing in the NFL. Casey Rabach is below average already and Dock is probably the same
Let me get this right. You want to take what very few proven talent players the Redskins have and trade them for 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to try and improve the team. You don't believe you need a quality tight end to win a Super Bowl. In todays game you won't make the playoffs without a top quality tight end (have you watched much football the last two years?). You want to trade the only wide receiver of any real value for a third round pick an expect to pick up somebody better????? Are U for real or a secret agent for the Cowboys?
U dont need a quality tight end example... i.e new england
the point is in almost all positions that r more important than TE: QB,RB, 2WR, 2T, Center, 1DE, MLB, 2Corners....we have holes (that have 2 b replaced 4 this team 2 win a super bowl) and we have NO CAP ROOM and that makes it 10times harder
also this is goin 2 be a bad team for the next 2 seasons, and hopefully the next season after dat will b average, and the next year after that hopefully we r a playoff caliber team, and the year after that a superbowl caliber team.
the point is, is a 30-31 year old TE (who might have real injury problems, u can only take so many hits in this league b4 u start taking injury and honestky you barely see any seasoned vetrens just take 1 injury...and never have another one...(odds r this is the first of many injuries) plus we really dont need the money we have 2 pay him on our books, because theres no reason to pay him that money BECAUSE FOR THE NEXT 3 SEANONS WERE NOT GOING TO B A PLAYOFF CALIBUR TEAM!!!, better then 2 4th or 5th year players who could b in there prime
