So Im watching teh game online here and its early but the team looks pretty fluid.

Xavier has one sweet shot. He hit a 3 on KUs second shot from the field and was just flawless in his stroke.

Halftime.  Typical first exhibition game so far.  We look a little out of sync and have had a couple breakdowns on the defensive side.  On the offensive side we look pretty good.  Xavier is as advertised, he scored 7 quick points and it didn't even seem like he took enough shots to get that many.  Markieff looks extremely good and Thomas Robinson is eventually going to be a great player.

I agree with sheo shine. A little sloppy at times, but overall i think we look good for the first game played so far. I expect Coach Self to get the team playing better defense, especially on the boards, in the second half.

I love our freshmen. Elijah Johnson is one of the most athletic guards i have seen in a Kansas uniform. Xavier is awesome. His shot is so smooth and beautiful. Thomas Robinson is a beast. Motor that does not quit in that kid. I love this team.

Enjoying the game here on SureWest Cable channel 10. Yeah, pretty typical exhibition game. Looks like they're having fun. Self is coaching them to learn. I'm sure there'll be a lot of that early on. High hopes for this team. Hope this game kicks off a championship season. Go KU!

I had signed up last year to listen to a game and some fo teh games are broadcast for free, this one is. Just register and you should be able to watch.

I like what I see from our freshmen so far. Lots of hustle on the defensive side and Robinson, JOhnson and Henry have all played with few mistakes.

Thomas Robinson fouled out. Good first showing IMO, aggressive, learning how the college officials ref is good in exhibition games.

Yep Alec, I think we can see already that Xavier will not be the only freshman to play a vital role on this team.   TRob is special but how about Elijah?  Some people were even mentioning him for a redshirt.. I think we can close the book on that notion.  He looks ready to play.  I have been saying all along he would be raw and he surely will be but tonight he looks like he was well prepared for playing at this level.

And I agree... I love this team.   It took about 4 seconds to get connected to this team's personality and barring injuries we are in for one heck of a ride regardless of how it ends.

SWEET.

Johnson and Taylor have both drove the lane well today and some great defense by the youngsters.

I agree shoe, this team was easy to like almost from the opening tip.

We looked awesome. i think this season will be a great one. i was a bit surprised that tyshawn did not start.. i would have thought he  would start.. and did anyone else see him where he apparently injured himself and was tell coaches to get him out... announcers missed that but i saw him clearly wanting out the game.

either way we will be fine. i cant wait for the season to begin. I believe there will be a team out there ready t challenge the Jayhawks out of nowhere and we will need bigs like the morrises to step it up when they smother cole... I hope we can handle all that will come our way.

Cole, Mc Morris, Mk Morris, X, and Tyshawn is a scary lineup that KU used tonight, there is not another team in the country that can trot out that combination of size and athleticism.  My favorite part of the game was the stretch where the three freshman made spectacular plays in a row.  It's kind of scary to think that as sloppy as KU looked tonight, they still scored 107 points.

Cole, Mc Morris, Mk Morris, X, and Tyshawn I agree with your statement except one thing... I would put Sherron in place of Tyshawn, because he is more agressive at getting to the lane and I like his swagger when its crunch time.

Also, I can see without a doubt that by the end of the starting 5 will be...

Cole-Mc Morris-Robinson-X-Sherron

that starting 5 would be impossible to match up with.

I agree that Sherron would make that lineup better, but it's still scary to see the size that KU is capable of putting out on the court.  As for the starting five I think ultimately it will be Cole, Mc Morris, X, Tyshawn, and Sherron.  I don't think that T-Rob is ready to start yet and his energy level will make him a great 6th man.  I think the reason Tyrel Reed started tonight over Tyshawn was becasue of the fights and I expect Tyshawn to be starting when KU plays Hofstra.

KU looked good tonite but a few things concern me. First I feel that Tyrel Reed is a defensive liability, he doesn't slide his feet to keep in front of his man. The Morris twins looked very good inside but they still want to throw up threes not in the flow of the offense. On the positive the 3 newcomers looked as advertised. The play where X went to the floor throws the ball to TRob who passes to Taylor to EJ who slams it was a beaut! I really think that these guys are going to make some very good memories for the fans this season!

Definitely agree. Sloppy at times but you'd expect that in the first game of the season.  Everyone is still learning and trying to gel, but as usual, there were plenty of good things we all saw from this game too.

I'd say one of the things that caught my eye was the first score of the game where Aldrich through it over the top to Mk Morris who threw it down, hard!  That's the type of play the twins were settling for layups on last year.  If the twins can be that aggressive in attacking the goal this year, that'll definitely help out Aldrich and you throw T Rob in the mix who has crazy energy, we'll have a front court that no one will be able to stop.

Bottom line is that this team has crazy good players.  There isn't a team in the country that can match up against KU from top to bottom.  Obvioulsy talent can take a team only so far, but it definitely gives them a huge advantage!

This should be the most exciting season in recent memory which is saying a lot with what's happened in KU hoops since 2000!!!

I have some thoughts on the game last night.

  • We are so deep. It's almost scary how deep we are. Someone is going to take a PT cut, if they don't take a redshirt, and I think it's going to be Tyrel Reed.
  • Every freshman brings something different. Elijah Johnson brings amazing athleticism. Xavier Henry brings one of the smoothest shots you'll see this year in college basketball. But, my personal favorite freshman last night was Thomas Robinson. When he is on the court, we have the chance to get almost every offensive rebound. Every great team needs players like him and the Morris twins. They aren't the primary scorers, but they do they things not found on the stat sheet.
  • Collins and Aldrich played like All Americans, and like the leaders they are. Everyone kept talking about how Collins won't have to take as many shots this year as last year, but I still think he will take his share of shots. Between him and Xavier, we have a couple good 3 point threats. And I will say this, if Aldrich gets the ball at the block or lower, the play is done, I don't think anyone in the country can stop him at that point on the court.
  • We looked pretty raw last night as a team. But I was actually really impressed on how in sync we looked. You can really tell the hard work and dedication these players put in in the offseason.
  • As you saw last night, Coach Self has different options as far as lineups. He can go small and quick, or big and unstoppable. It really excites to know that we have so many options.
I love to hear that all these players got in the weightroom and really beefed up. You can really tell that with the Morris twins. They look way better than they did at the end of last year, as far as build goes. This team is pretty amazing, and I think all Jayhawk fans should be ready for a good season.
