People want to talk about how over the top UK fans are - with our high expectations and nit-picking of our teams performances to the Nth degree. But what is worse? Would you rather have a fan base that packs every game and has high expectations - or a fan base that totally abandons their program when they're not doing so well? Let me start off by saying that I live in the Louisville area. I was raised in a split household (UL\UK). I chose the promise land over the Dreaded Red. Anywho... nothing disgusts me more than fair-weather fans. UL is filled with these type of people. Only when the program is up is when they show up. I attended a couple of games out of nothing better to do a couple of times this year as well as last year and found myself amazed that NOBODY was in the stadium! Where in the f^&* they get these bogus numbers of 21k fans showed up is beyond me (reported on WHAS11 news). In order for 21k fans to show up - that would mean that at least half of their stadium would need to be filled up - and trust me when I say that maybe 1/4th of the stadium was filled at their last game. They may have sold 21k tickets - but they didn't show. Last year I was at a South Florida game when they (USF) were ranked 14th. Maybe half the seats were filled. They even won that game some how. They treat Kragthorpe like crap. Do they not realize how much of an impact that it has on a program for a recruit to show up to a game and only half or less of the seats are occupied? Do they not realize that by them not showing up and supporting their team and buying concession stand items affects their program? All of this plays into a schools success. Petrino left at the best time - because he knew that the program was going to fall to shambles because of all the guys he was losing off of the BCS team. They lucked out and had a good run for a couple of years and that made the fan base think they're a power house. HELLO! You are UL! You are not a power house! You will never be one because you only support your team when they're doing well. You didn't see a half empty Notre Dame game the past 10 years have you? It's because of this that you will never be no more than a mediocre team that may have a decent year here and there. I am so sick of the Kragthorpe bashing on Louisville talk radio. I feel sorry for their next coach. Gruden would be stupid to come to UL. BTW, I spotted him reading Catspause mag at the downtown Louisville Border's! lol j/k
When Mummy was at UK and the program in dier straights i went to a UK and it was half empty. Dont give me the crap about not filling the stadium. There have been plenty of games across the nation were the attendance is highly bloated when in fact the empty seats tell it all. I went to the Uk LMU game 2 weeks ago and there was alot of empty seats. It happens everywhere espicially when fans are trying to make a point about the Coach. I recall a UK game last year when they left at halftime or even worse threw bottles and booed players on SR nite. Get real and get lost I can handle most UK fans but you are a idiot to say the least.

Bias..... You make some excellent points about the state of our Football prgram. About our football fans. All very true. The fans have turned their back on Kragthorpe and his inability to put a sucessful team on the field. This football team IS NOT losing games beacuse only 21,000 ( supposedly ) fans show up for a game. They were losing when the stadium had 40,000 +. Kragthorpe doesn't deserve ALL the crap that has come his way.
All I ask is that you look in the mirror. Look at Commonwealth Stadium. Go there the next time they play an SEC team. Look and see how empty Commonwealth Stadium gets after halftime. I know because I have a good friend who is a season ticket holder. Very seldom does he sit in his nose-bleed seats because he can always find a seat near the 40 yard line, 20-30 rows up.
Ask a UK fan about their football program. Well if we can win all of our Non Conference games (4) and happen to pull out two SEC wins, against 8 games, then we get to go Bowling again! yeeeeeeha I can still remember near empty Commonwealth stadium during Rich Brooks secoond year, and all the talk about getting Steve Spurrier going into his 3rd year. Then he pulled out a win against Kragthorpe, and all of a sudden UK football is BACK! Back by winning an average of 2 SEC games every year. Granted they did beat an excellent LSU team a few years ago.
Our football program had one helluva run for about 10 years with John L and Petrino. Including Top 10 rankings AND an Orange Bowl BCS Victory.
Petrino Left this program because he is a mercinary. He brought in the talent, instilled Football discipline and was a "winner" on the field. Kragthorpe inherited all his bad boys and has been trying to rebuild ever since then.
Notre Dame's stadium stayed fairly full because of their 50 year tradition....but a half empty stadium after halftime for the past 5 years, unless it was a close game.

Kragthorpe will not be retained next year so look for optimism from the fans if Jurich will get out the checkbook and buy a big name coach. The money is there.

UK fans show up to games to get drunk..and that is about it. UK fans are so funny. I am sure that UL fans remember that when UL was dominating the football scene what was the same cop out that UK fans always used?
"Who cares, everybody knows Kentucky is a basketball state anyway." Problem with that was they also stopped dominating in basketball. But now that UK has turned the tide and gone to three straight Music city bowls (whoppie!) while UL football is struggling, all of a sudden football is a big deal. What a load of crap.
UK fans will also lay claim to playing football in the SEC..like it is a special privilage to be Florida and Georgia and Alabama and LSU and Tennesee's (should I keep going) annual in season scrimmage.
UK football is and always has been, for the most part embarassing and what is worse is that it is so bad, that UK fans dont even understand how bad it is. At least when UL sucks we can say it and at least UL has a benchmark to get back to. UK fans think they are having a good year because they beat Auburn LOL.
When you purchase a ticket you expect a certain value for it. If you dont get that value, you arent going to purchase tickets. That does not make UL fans fairweather at all, especially in these economic times. It makes them smart.

Go ahead and be loyal to your football team that has always and likely always will be a step below average. Go ahead and pray for that miracle upset of Florida or Tennessee or that moral victory where you only lost by 10 instead of 30. You can have it and your low level bowl games that come with it after all, everybody knows Kentucky is a basketball state. LOL
i'm glad uk fans are so excited to play the cards in basketball this season. i wouldnt go as far to say the cards cant lose the game, but if cats fans think that hiring coach cal will automatically make them better than ul, they are forgetting history. coach cal never had a dominant team at memphis untill the cards and the big east teams left c-usa. and over the last three years, there hasnt been a better road team in the nation than the cards. uk will get better, but with a a young, inexperienced backcourt, i love our chances to go into rupp and give the pussy**** cats a spoon full of humility. i will enjoy the meetings with coach cal in the future, because even if we dont win, its not a sure loss till the ncaa says so!!!!!
