Gators are under the radar this season with low expectation to achieve.  When you consider the depth they now have and the shift back to  natural playing positions, this has all the potential to be an exciting season.

Unless Alex Tyus goes nuts this year...well be looking at an NIT birth at best.

I'm very optimistic about the point - at least with the starters.  Not so sure about the relief yet.  In the St. Leo game the first teamers, Boynton and Walker were a great one-two combo and tossed in over a third of the points.  Boynton is going to draw the coverages which is really going to make Walker much more effective and give him some good open looks. He needed that because of his size disadvantage.  That was about as good of an opening night for Boynton as a college player that I've seen.  He is college ready and will be a nightmare to matchup with.

We're looking really good in the 3 and 4 spots with lots of talent and depth.  Werner, Parsons and Tyus are going to really shine this year playing in their more natural positions.  These guys are studs and can match up with anybody in the league.  They will out size and out-muscle most of the teams we'll face.  Book it.  Erik Murphy is a phenom and is going to be one of the biggest surprises this season.  He's got one of the most well-rounded games I've seen for a freshman with excellent technique.  Look for big contributions from him in relief and no letdown from the starters.  Shipman is a lock-down defender, but I sure hope he's shooting better this season than what he showed in the opener.

The game on Monday is going to be key for seeing what our post guys can do.  I see this as the most important element that we've missed since Speights left.   I wasn't very impressed with their opening night performance, especially the first half.  St. Leo was undersized and they should have dominated a lot more than they did.  Macklin said he was playing tight and it showed.  He's the real deal though and will only improve as he finally gets some action after a year away from game competition. Kadji has also improved and will only be better because he will be pushed.  His footwork is much better this year but he still working on his technique.

We're picked 5th in the East but I'm certain we'll be much, much better than that. These guys are really coming together as a team and that's why we're going to steal a couple of big games this season.  I'll wait for a more games beofre making any post-season predicitions but we're under the radar, have some depth and talent and in good shape across the court.

I've heard from insiders that there's reason to be optimistic about this year's basketball team. This team is more athletic by far than it has been the last two seasons. I'm expecting them to make the NCAA tourney this season.

Not many people saw the Gators coming a few years back and look what happened...two National Championships...I think this team will fly under the radar and exceed expectations...lucky for us those expectations are currently low...but you can bet Donovan's expectations are high, he knows first hand the kind of potential and dynamic players he has attracted to the program.

The SEC is always full of surprises, maybe this is the year of the Gators!

Go Gators!

WernerThese guys are studs
Haha, never heard anybody say that about Werner before!  Seriously, I like Werner and think he can be a good point-forward/role player now that we have more bodies in the front court and more firepower in the back court.  It does seem odd though that he is still starting ahead of Parsons who has more length, athleticsm and range.  We all know Billy loves his senior leaders (i.e. Hodge getting 30 minutes a game last year) but I think Werner would be just as effective coming off the bench.

Please, Why does everyone hate Werner?

He's not athletic at all, and I know that, and he knows that. But he is a good shooter. Anyone mad about him shooting, he shot 35 percent from three point land last year, about seven points better than Parsons. He was also playing 4 last year, not his position. 3 is his natural position, and he should shine this year. Also, as a big man last year, he had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. For a big man, that is unbelievable. He is very smart with the ball, and averaged as many assists as Walker and Hodge last year. He is good at just about everything, except for being athletic. He should be starting ahead of Parsons and will be. Really, what's wrong with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 35% three-shooting, and a positive assist-to-turnover ratio?
