It's clear that the Marlins will be trading Dan Uggla very soon as they apparently are having discussions with a few teams about him. The 2 rumors that have surfaced are the following:
There is the 1 that I mentioned before that may have changed a bit with the Hermida deal yesterday, but the 2 pitchers the Marlins got may be a set up to this trade. As I mentioned before, the Marlins have been rumored to be revisiting a trade that they nearly completed at the deadline, prior to them getting Nick Johnson. Prior to that, the rumor is that they nearly completed a 3-team trade with the Padres in which Uggla would've ended up with the Twins; Delmon Young, Alexi Casilla, Rick VandenHurk, Gaby Sanchez and other prospects from the Marlins and Twins going to the Padres; the Marlins ending up with both Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez.
The latest rumor with steam is a rumor involving packages where the Dodgers get Uggla and the Marlins get Chad Billingsley as the primary pieces in the deal.

You know if the SF Giants want to trade Lincicum after that embarssing pot bust, I think Omar would be willing to send him Pelfrey,Perez,Maine, and his new Mercedes in return.
I don't think Uggla is worth him either. I was thinking the same thing about the maturity issues with him may be playing a role in this. I'm for it as long as Billingsley doesn't come here and be a cancer on our team.
Marlins getting Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez for Uggla and prospects would be a steal, considering VandenHurk has been a prospect for 3 years now.. The Marlins love former Mets prospects i guess (Bell)..
Maybe if the Marlins throw in Bert Blylevyn, the Padres would think about it, considering the only time VandenHurk ever pitched decent was in the WBC with Bert as his pitching coach...
Putting Gonzalez and Bell on the Marlins would make the Fish a very good team, if they can get 1 more good starter, i am not sold on Voldstad and the Marlins have health issuses with Sanchez..
When I heard that Bell and Gonzalez nearly happened at the deadline, I was wondering who the heck did we not want to give up. It seems that they aren't willing to give up Michael Stanton nor any of their pitchers other than Vandenhurk. Rumor is that if the package sorts itself out, it may include 1 of the more prized arms - maybe a Sean West, Chris Volstad, or Andrew Miller instead of Vandenhurk.
I'd do the deal in a heartbeat because Gonzalez is still young and under contract. He'd also be a great complimentary piece to place after Hanley with Jorge Cantu and Cody Ross protecting him. We really need a closer, so Bell fills the need.
I don't know if the Marlins need another starter. I'm surprised by the Billingsley rumor, but if we get him, there's another deal somewhere with 1 of our arms. As of now, we expect to enter ST with Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco with a cast of Volstad, Sanchez (who looked healthy at the end of this season), Miller, Vandenhurk, and West challenging for the other spots. They all are very talented. Maybe the Uggla to Dodgers - Billingsley to Marlins may set up 1 or 2 of the young arms going to the Padres for Bell and Gonzalez. That would be sweet for me.
LOL. Well, we got 2 lefties from the Red Sox that will compete in our bullpen. That makes Renyel Pinto expendable. You want your Cubs to give us another prospect for him so you can have the lovely trio of "Ford" Pinto, GREGG!!!, and the oldest prospect in MLB history?

Gregg's a free agent anyway....and Marmol is pretty much locked up the closer's role, so negotiating with him would be moot.
Heilman doesn't belong on a major league roster.
But even so...the Cubs have way bigger problems than their pitching. Age and lack of offensive production top the list.
If you guys get rid of both Gregg and Heilman, that may be a 10-game improvement swing right there. Any chance of them looking for a closer outcide of the organization? It would be of mutual interest for them to look at bringing Kerry Wood back.
As for the Cubs offensive woes, I don't see any fixes on the free agent market. They need to get healthy and, in some cases, sane in a quick hurry because for some of their guys, the window is closing very fast.
Hey Hype have you actually heard the Marlins are talking to the Twins about Dan Uggla? As a Twins fan I would welcome him with open arms, anything that cuts down on Nick Punto's playing time is a good thing. I'm trying to think of where they would hit him, if they resign Cabrera the line-up would be 1. Denard Span 2. Orlando Cabrera 3. Joe Mauer 4. Justin Morneau 5. Michael Cuddyer 6. Jason Kubel well I guess that means he would probably hit 7th. Works for me.
If you have heard they are talking to the Twins who are the players going to the Marlins in return?

PH, thanks for keeping me updated on the fish. I'm so caught up with the Noles, Dolphins, and Magic I haven't focused on the MLB offseason. I wasn't too surprised to see we moved Hermida yesterday. I like the outfield with Chris Coughlan, Cameron Maybin, and Cody Ross. I would love to pick up Heath Bell, and Adrian Gonzalez. I hope we are really making a move for those guys. Thanks again PH
The rumor is that it's part of the 3-way I mentioned above. It might be a moot point though as your Twins just got J.J. Hardy. Unless they want to continue with Dan Uggla as well to fill their infield.
