She is obviously a talented player.  And since we haven't heard her name in connection with violent play before it is obvious that there was some event that precipitated her actions.

Since there is no highlights of a physical play against her I am betting that it was a verbal taunt.

Did the other team make fun of a dying relative?  Or maybe she has a physically disabled sibling that someone made fun of.

Whatever it was, I can guarantee that the opposing team said or did something to provoke this girl.

Whether her actions were right or not, it is obvious that she wouldn't turn into a violent player spontaneously unless someone did something really dispicable to provoke her.

The article said "The highlights showed the game was physical in both directions, including an elbow to Lambert's ribs by a BYU player during a dead ball."

So I don't think it was anything particularly mean-spirited that instigated it.  Just some idiots (on both sides) getting too physical and not showing any restraint.  Lambert definitely made a mistake with her antics, but it's despicable to attack another player to any degree during a dead ball.

The ESPN reel showed her taking a pretty hard elbow to the ribs from a BYU player, so I'm assuming it was a very physical match all around that she just took to the extreme.

Based on what?!  None of the highlights showed her making a good play, so I ask whether or not you've seen additional tape of her playing well?  I understand a physical soccer match but that one got out of hand, probably due to the refs allowing so. But in no way can/should she be considered a "talented player" based on the clips on tv of that game.

She definitly was provoked, it was just her actions were moe blatent. She got elbowed in the ribs on the one play. Right before she pulled that girl down by her ponytail, you can see that girl pulling on her shorts or doing something to make her mad. I am not defending her actions just saying the other team was asking for something.

A lot of talk here over nothing.  Soccer gets very physical, and anyone who has played it at a high level knows that from time to time people lose their cool and do dumb stuff.  I mean, Zidane, anyone?

When I was a senior in high school, there was 1 guy I defended (we always played man on the other team's best players) who would ALWAYS try to step on my toes while the ref wasn't looking (which is a lot of the time).  After having my toenail ground so hard it fell off, I wasn't about to just take it the next time we payed them.  I game him a little of his own medicine, and he quit it.  If anyone had video of this I could be "despicable" too.  Big fat whatever to this whole story.  The problem with this country is there is TOO MUCH news.
