Ok, I am a HUGE Colts fan (cant you tell by my avatar???). But I have to disagree with Prisco here. There is no way that the Colts should have the top spot after the last two games. Sure, they were wins, but the colts did not play well at all.
But I will predict this.....the Saints will lose to the Patriots...simply because the Saints dont know the Patriots that well. The Colts and Patriots know each other very well, so the game sunday is a toss up really. But the Saints should definantly be VERY concerned about the Patriots
Though I agree that the Colts are not playing the best football in the league, I believe they have earned this spot. The Saints haven't been playing great over the past couple weeks either. I really think it should be 1a and 1b, but prisco wouldn't go for it.
And for all you that believe neither the saints or colts should be 1st, I think if your team goes 8-0 to start the season, you are THE team to beat. Thus, first in the power rankings.
So you are saying a team that has had to come back and win two of their past three games should be ranked over a team that won, but maybe not as much as they could have? Saints have shown they can be beat the past couple weeks and they got lucky in the end.
the Saints are still managing to score a lot of points which the Colts have not been able to do. If it hadnt been for the Colts Defense the past two weeks, the Colts would have lost those games. The offense is out of sync and not playing like a team ranked #1 in power rankings...
of course, we all know these rankings mean nothing...this is just my opinion...
The Saints didn't play great either this week. Teams might be starting to figure out a little something about these two teams, and it's starting to show. Remember the Patriots in 2007? When the Eagles faced them and lost by 3 (thanks to A.J. Feeley and Asante Samuel), the Eagles showed the NFL the blueprint to beat them. The Giants then tried using it, and lost in the regular season. They faced them again, and held the highest scoring offense in NFL history is almost every category to 14 points.
Either way, you have two 8-0 teams. No way to rank anyone above them, and somebody has to be #2. Though, you know what a dollar and being #1 or 2 on the CBS Power Rankings gets you? A dollar menu item from McDonalds.

If it hadnt been for the Colts Defense the past two weeks, the Colts would have lost those games.A win is a win man. The Saints though are giving up points while the Colts aren't. Two similar situations happening with opposite squads, both equal a win for their respective teams. Colts offense not scoring much? Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark.....phhhh, seriously? They won't be *not scoring so much* for long. They're the Colts, and they have Peyton Manning.

And something else that might have affected the Saints and Colts the past two weeks, teams playing in desperation mode almost. 49'ers needed to win to keep this season going, and Texans had to win to keep division hopes alive, let alone a wildcard spot. The Falcons needed a win to stay alive in the division, Miami needed a win to stay in wildcard contention, and the Panters, well, the Panthers always play the Saints tough
They won't be *not scoring so much* for long. They're the Colts, and they have Peyton Manning.I certainly hope so...we all know who is up this weekend. Gonna have to score 30 or more to win that one. Then its back to the Texans at Reliant Stadium. That one worries more than this weekends game!
Jetsfan10, Are you 10? That's what he said!!!!!!!!!!!! A win is a win is a win. Every team in the NFL have shown they can be beat. Is your whole life canned phrases taken from "the NFL is us book?" There no luck in football, ya think the ball is round?
On the other hand, it could also be said that the Patriots do not know the Saints very well so they will lose. It works both ways. Although, to be honest, both coaches come from the Parcels tree, so they're bound to have some familiarity with each other.
On the other hand, it could also be said that the Patriots do not know the Saints very well so they will losegood point...just have a hunch on this one is all!
Oh, I see. Because the Saints had to come back to defeat the Dolphins, Falcons and Panthers, that makes their 12, 8 and 10 point victories somehow less impressive than the Colts' 3 point victory over the Texans and 4 point victory over the 49ers. Thanks for pointing that out.
Oh well. I guess it's not surprising that small-minded people who don't have much to hang their hat on this season (cough cough Jets fans cough cough) would feel compelled to hold the Saints success against them. Now the Saints have to beat every opponent by 21 points to match a 3 point Colts nailbiter or a last second Vikings victory over a mediocre opponent thanks to a Hail Mary pass.
Not that I'm complaining. Let the Colts keep the No. 1 ranking. It's just a big bullseye every week. As long as the Saints keep winning, I would happy for them to remain in the No. 2 spot until they have a chance to play Indianapolis on Feb. 7.

It's a nice thought, Saints and Colts in the super bowl.
Dont think its gonna happen though...colts and saints will each probably end up with the top seed, and it is very rare that top seeds meet in the superbowl. In fact, not since 1993 Cowboys / Bills have two #1 seeds met in the superbowl...wow, thats half my life ago!!
Hard to argue that the Saints should have jumped to #1 this week. The Colts had command of most of the game, but let up on defense to allow the Texans (5-4) back in the game. This same thing happened with the Vikings against the Packers (week #8).
Whereas the Saints had nothing in the first half against the Panthers (3-5), but finally woke up in the second half and were able to beat them. Yes, good teams do find ways to win games and both the Colts and Saints are finding ways to win their games. Both deserve to be #1 at this point, but to make a change at the top after week #9 would not be appropriate.
I respect what Irlfan360 has said here. Its not that they are bashing the Colts or saying the Colts suck, they are just saying they have looked off kilter for the last couple of weeks.
Seriously if you objectively looked at the books of the last 2 games of both teams anyone could easily justify why the Saints should be #1 in the Power Ranking.
We are all used to seeing the Colts score at will and they haven't been, these last two games were come from behind wins. They barely got 18 against San Francisco and 20 against the Texans, a game I think while watching it most thought they would lose.
Peyton Manning has not looked himself, and the stats reflect that; 86.0 rating against 49ers and 83.6 against the Texans.
Both the Saints and Colts are playing great and I hope they both keep winning but I agree that just looking at the #s and stats, the Saints should be ahead of the Colts.
I agree with the person that said that it should be 1a and1b. The Patriots are probably that sets these teams apart. If the Colts win against them and the Saints do not then the colts should be ranked #1 and if the saints beat the patriots then, the saints should be #1. The colts can coast the way through the rest of the season and probably win the division. If the colts continue to get hurt then, they are screwed so hard core. If they can get hayden, brown, and gonzo back, this could be the top of the class.
Yeah, I'm a lifelong Saints fan and I'd go 1A and 1B as well right now, and with a huge focus on the "right now" part of it, because a lot can change in a single game--a bad injury to an imperative part of an offense or defense can destroy a season. Or sometimes you can just be playing out of your heads for a while and get all the bounces--look at Tennessee last year. Started 10-0, finished 13-3, and out of the playoffs quick. So, as Sean Payton keeps saying, all 8-0 gets you is the chance to get to 9-0, nothing more. Both New Orleans and Indy are at the top for now, and that's nice--better than being Cleveland or Tampa--but it's nothing important in the long run.
You're an idiot and make a totally stupid argument. I am ashamed that you claim to be a Colts fan.
If you are true fan, then you can acknowledge when another team is more deserving than your own. I am first a football fan, with the Colts being my team of choice.
I hate to say it, but fans like you are what give colts fans a bad name. No objectivity, just think that no matter what our team is the greatest of all time.
