A little correction...You state in your story he had...36 homers  and 119 RBI....  it is really 40  homers   the 119  is the walks he had last year  ... he had 99 RBI's.... also the Moores dont own the team anymore............  it is Jeff Moorad!!!  but yes they are trying to keep the payroll down..that hasnt changed!!!!!
Well I hate to see the Padres trade him...
but  yes as usual they are trying to dump the big contracts  and field a AA team!!!!      well that is the problem with baseball..... only 10 teams have money  and the others cant keep up.. but  A. Gonzalez is a great talent...  wish him all the best if he has to go!!!!

Scott Miller needs to check his facts. Also I was unaware that teams dont like cheap all-star closers like Heath Bell? If the Padres do move him, they are going to get major league ready talent now back for him, and that being athletic field players.

Seeing how the Padres have a lot of players returning next year and fewer glaring holes, I really don't see them moving Gonzalez.  The smarter move would be to hold on to him and if were out of it again by the deadline, then trade him to a desperate team.

Also, to correct the article, along with messing up A Gon's stats, he also messed up the state of the franchise.  There payroll is to increase from the 21 mil it was at the end of last year to 40+ mil in 2010.  Given that were set to increase payroll be 19 million, trading the most affordable super star in the game makes no sense.   I guess we'll have to see.
