You might have forgotten, but to get Steven Jackson, the Rams traded first round positions with the Bengals. The Rams got Jackson, the Bengals took Chris Perry from Michigan. I'm a fan of both teams and had to laugh at this one, the Rams by far got the better of the deal. I wouldn't have thought the Rams would totally fall apart since then but it sounds like they are on the right road by building from the ground up and building around Jackson. Hopefully within a year or two they will be back in contention (being in the NFCWest does have at least one good point, its fairly easy to win the division compared to just about any other division). So now, a few years later and Jackson is one of the best backs in the league, Perry is out of the league, and the Bengals got their own power RB in Benson. All is well...
Also the Cowboys could have had Jackson as well but traded out of the 1st round with Buffalo who took J.P. Losman. Dallas ended up with Julius Jones in the 2nd round. As much as I like the Cowboys backs now I'd still have loved it if they had taken Jackson!
How can you be a fan of "both teams"? That makes you a fraud. Jackson is a beast, Perry couldn't stay healthy but was a good back at Michigan. I still remember a game for the Blue and Maze where he had like 50 carries, it was sick.
^^ I'm a fan of two teams. I grew up watching Dallas because of my dad and I still watch them, but the Jets have been my team since I was a kid. And that Cowboys game sure was sweet last week...
i am first and foremost a Rams fan, but i also root for the giant when they dont play the rams, and the Ravens, since i now live in baltimore. but above all i love the rams and always will. and dumbest part of the article is when he said the rams love Jacob Bell... no one loves bell and hes gonna get cut next year. other then that its a pretty good article.
Sasquash, some people actually like watching the National Football League as a whole, rather than cheering mindlessly for a team near where one happened to be born. Don't get me wrong, I grew up in Kansas and am a huge Chiefs fan. They will always be my team. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the way the Steelers play defense, or the big plays Steve Smith puts up (not so much this year), or the way Fred Taylor runs, or countless other parts of the NFL.
So is it wrong to like things about the past? It's why we got into football after all. I started watching the Jets in the 90's with Keyshawn, Vinny, Wayne Chrebet, and Curtis Martin. I guess I can't like the Jets anymore because they've all retired.

I'm a fan of both teams and had to laugh at this one, the Rams by far got the better of the deal.I don't know about that. Remember it was a 3 team trade and they also received Deltha O'Neal and Denver's 4th Round Pick in which they drafted Robert Geathers. I know the Chris Perry never did anything, but Deltha O'Neal had a record breaking season and you have a very solid player in Geathers. Jackson has only had one great season and that was in 2006. I really don't see him as one of the best backs in the league, rushing for 1000 yds isn't what it used to be. He has only ranked in the top 10 in rushing once (in 2006 of course) and has been in the top 10 in rushing tds once(2006 again). As for Benson, he is having a great season. However, I am concerned, with his amount of carries. He is projected to carry the ball 396 times, the 7th most all time. In every case of the players ahead of him on the list, there is a marked decline of performance for the rest of their careers. I am afraid this will happen, if he can make it to 350+. Secondly he has never carried more than 214 times in his NFL career. Does he have the stamina to go for the long haul? We will see, I will be pulling for him (since I hate the Steelers and the Ravens).
How can you be a fan of "both teams"?I am a fan of 2 teams. I am a diehard Redskins fan, born and raised that way. But I am a fan of the Colts as well, they are my playoff team, LOL, since the Skins never get there and when they do they just lose. I have followed Peyton since college and am still bitter that Charlie Woodson stole the Heisman from him.
The Bengals had a better draft, however most of the solid players they got are no longer with the team, so the Rams may actually have the edge despite only one successful draft pick.
As for having more than one team - the Falcons are my favorite team, the Steelers are my local team. I root for both of them, and last time they played they tied!
Hey Panthers, I agree with your assesment but I don't think any of these guys would start this year on the Bengals...this probably lead to some of the reasons why they are no longer on the team....I think thy're are solid but is the team worse off not having them?
Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall are both top cover corners, Ratliff would be a slight downgrade at either spot. With a front 4 that would have A. Odom (if healthy), Tank Williams, Robert Geathers (you mentioned) Domata Peko, Frostee Rucker, and rookie Michael Johnson...Madieu never could really break in as a starter.
The LB are also solid with Keith Rivers, Rey Maulauga, and Dhani Jones (more of a veteran presence is working well now with the two youngsters). Landon Johnson played quite a bit when Rivers was injured and before Rey but this year, I'm sure he's happier someplace else.
As fars as Stacy goes, it seemed like he always had potential. I think this years Bengals O-Line is better...especially in the 3 Tackle formation. I suspect Andre Smith being on the team and in the future plans made losing Andrews easier. Andrew Whitworth, Center Kyle Cook and the extra tackle Rowand have really stepped up to make this unit gel.
Though this is all (chicken-egg) speculation. I'm not sure we lost the guys first and then shored up these positions or realized we needed an upgrade at all these positions and went and filled spots in the more recent drafts and free-agency.
