An agora is the Greek word for marketplace. The Romans expanded the concept of the marketplace and provided for political speaches, conversations and discussions, religion, etc., and called it The Forum.
Ok. So?
So, this thread is open for any topic on any sport relating to Michigan State or any of the Spartan teams.
This thread is, hopefully, a place where all green-blooded Spartans can hang out and chat to their heart's delight. It is, of course, a concept borrowed from elsewhere (thanks to the Crimson and Cream Cafe).
We got to enjoy the thrill of a 40-37 nailbiter football win over Purdue and locked in for a post season bowl. We got to enjoy a 97-58 basketball thrashing of Florida Gulf Coast. Some of the Spartan walking wounded played, too, which is good. We got to enjoy a 3-2 hockey thriller win over Lil Missy. We got to enjoy a sweep of Lil Missy with a 2-0 hockey shutout of Lil Missy. We got to enjoy a 7-0 field hockey shutout of Delaware. Next up is the NCAA tournament (starts today). We got to enjoy a sweep of Grand Valley St. in swimming and diving on Friday. We got to enjoy a sweep of Purdue in women's volleg ball on Friday.
On deck: Womens rowing is at Ohio St. for a meet with the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers today. The MSU Open, wrestling, is all day, today, in E. Lansing.
Downside: Sadly, men's soccer fell to Penn St. in the Big Ten semifinals on Friday. Women's soccer had a heartbreaking OT loss on Friday to Santa Clara.
I have a question that odds are won't get answered, but I'll give it a shot. Anyone know what the outlook is for MSU baseball this spring? In particular the pitching. Since college baseball isn't all that big up north I've had a hard time finding much insight.
Wow, that is exciting 76 I didn't realize that we had such a great weekend in all those sports. I was getting ready to talk up the hockey team for twice beating little sister this weekend and a great turn around season, before too long we will be a top 5 program again, last year was just a set back. But I was elated to see how well MSU athletics did last weekend.
Also I encourage you all to start participating in The People's Poll on the College basketball page because we need to get some Spartan love in there. I have been trying to become a regular for a while and in another week or two I may be in so hit the forum hard and .....
76, I know about the site I visit it frequently I just tend to focus more on Hockey Football and Basketball. I will check in on the other sports every once and a while but not that often. I was just saying it was great to hear how well the other teams did this weekend. I knew the field hockey team was terrific. Either way MSU athletics is performing tremendously this year. The football team has been a bit disapointing but I kinda seen it coming this year. I am just glad they got the QB situation decided because I was a huge Nichols fan entering the season but Cousins has won me over and he should be in every offensive possession the rest of the season. Things only look to get better at QB in the future, Cousins and Nichols plus Maxwell and Boisture down the road, its exciting.
Nice work 76 just seen you posted on TPP not sure if you've been there before but its great. If you want to be a regular which I think you would make a great one try to add a little reasoning behind your rankings so that jayhawk uses you in some future polls. Kudos though
News alert, I just found out that after sweeping lil sis in hockey this weekend we are alone atop the CCHA standings because Miami of Ohio lost 2 shootouts to My alma matter Ferris State University.
Sounds like something my wife would wear to a "Cheesy Party."
We hosted a cheesy party once...centerpiece on the buffet table was a three tiered champagne fountain I converted to a Creamed Corn Fountain - the constant "blurbling" was a big hit.

Mayle...I know what you mean about baseball north of the mason-dixon...lol...you might just as well ask how the UTEP Hockey Program is progressing. MSU's baseball field facilities have undergone a nice upgrade, which might help a little. MSU's pitching, it seems, has ever been one of the strengths of an otherwise mid-level program...this year looks no different. If you have any encouraging news or speculation re: MSU Baseball, we'd sure love to hear it.
Thanks for the response ndliblnc, perhaps someone will find some solid sources of college baseball knowledge. I do know that with the coaching change last year we're improving. Not sure about making the playoffs this year though. i had heard that pitching is still strength, but I'm sure that's still weak relative to top tier programs like Rice and UNC.
I only ask because my brother is a pitcher and is getting some (unofficial at the moment) looks from a few schools, including State. Since he's only a junior they can't contact him yet, so he's been asking me what I know about their program in terms of pitching depth. I'll be sure to share if I find anything more out about this years outlook.
Mayle...terrific news re: your brother...best of luck to him wherever he plays. Coach Boss has plenty of opportunity to improve MSU's program - that "interest" from EL is being shown your brother is a most encouraging sign that MSU's grasp might someday match its reach.
Southern college baseball is amazing. If you ever get the chance to visit Tuscaloosa,AL...check out the Tide's ballpark and facilities...incredible...immaculat e...pampered...pure baseball...(reminds me of the Augusta National compared to all other golf courses everywhere.) Tough for northern schools to compete with that kind of attention.
