Was there a more horrible piece of reporting that you have ever seen than the first question that was asked of Michelle Wie after she won?  Why here and why now?  How about because I was competing and was able to finally be better than everyone else in the tournament.  How about cause first place gets more money than everyone else.  How about cause I just wanted to win no matter what the tourament was.  Why would you ask such a stupid question?

It just seems like the reporter was in love with Michelle Wie the way she was staring at her so passionately lol.

I noticed that question! Must admit I was baffled. Having said that these announcers are mostly overpaid brainles turds. Yesterday was just a little more proof.

Amen to that.  Did you see Michelle Wie's reaction when she first heard it.  It looked like she wanted to just blurt out why do you think you idiot.  I hope one day that I can get paid a ton of money to attend golf tournaments and sound like a complete retard on national television.  Instead I do it for free on these boards.

"It just seems like the reporter former LPGA player turned Golf Channel on course announcer..."

There fixed it for ya.  I think that's why you heard such a lousy question...she wasn't a reporter.

I totally agree.  That was a completely idiotic question.  The correct answer is pretty much what Michelle said "I have no idea!" and thought "This has got to be the stupidest question in LPGA history!".  I wanted to watch the interview to see what Michelle would say, but stopped watching after the second question which I thought was also completely idiotic.  Fortunately, my brain cells rejected the "save request" when my eyes tried to save the information.

I remember when Charles Barkely ws still playing in the NBA he would snap at reporters who asked stupid questions, even saying "that was a stupid question, next".  You gotta love that kind of honesty.  Of course golf being a more sedate sport we  can't expect Wie or any other golfer to answeer in that manner.  Where is Sir Charles when you need him?

Crazy,
Have to five you on that. The question ranked amongst the worst ever.  "Best Damn Sports Show" out to begin doing some research and do their "Top 50 Worst Sports Interview Questions Ever".  I would love to relieve some of the answers and expressions on people's face.  I wonder if some people can think of any now to post? In fact, I will borrow that and start a thread.

The "worst ever" interviews by supposably intelligent, educated persons, doesn't stop at Sporting events.  Have you ever listened to an interview with someone who has lost family members in a tradegy, etc., "How do you feel?"  Happy, stupid!  I don't know where they get their communication skills, but something needs to change.  Most interviews are laughable.

They need to make a TV show, showing "worst ever interviews".  Now, I might watch that for entertainment.

That's your answer. The Golfchannel doesn't use "trained" announcers or "journalists" they use ex-players. You get more on the course but you also get less in the interviews. However, how many times have you really seen good questions asked while the winning player was still on the green and pumping with adrenalin from having just won. The good questions, the tough questions will come afterwards in the media tent.

Don't be so anal my friend.

That's funny, you're right. When I heard the question I thought, "What?" Truth be told, I can't think of a single question one would direct at any 20 year old that would illicit much interest. People don't generally get interesting to listen to until they've put some miles behind them, so to speak. Most of the time these players are so coached up anyway their answers are rote, so it doesn't really matter what you ask them. Which of course leads one to the banal..."So, how does you feel?" or in Michelle Wie's case, "How does it feel to get the monkey off your back?"

The Klan of the Ignorant seem to have convened.  I would thought I'd have gotten AT LEATS a "post-It"!

WoW!

I didn't see ot here the interview in question ... so I only have the interpretations of others (some of dubious dredibilty) to go by.

They way that I interpreted thje question was ... that the questioner was asking an INTENTIONALLY "Open Ended" question ... a question that would allow the 'questioned" some FREEDOM to exxpresse themselves outside the standard "black and White" confines.

Long story SHORT ... it was  GREAT question ... and a poor resonse from Wie.

The QUESTIONER offer Wie an Opporunity ... an opportunity to describe the DIFFICULT path that she had to travail to get to that solitary WIN.

It was a BEAUooTIFUL question ... with no answer.  The questioner TEED-it-UP for Wie ... and she SHANKED it.

When I talk to people about stuff that I care about ... or that I want an HONEST answer about ... I tend to be VAGUE.  I TRY to give them a sense of my drift ... and let THEM take it in the Direction that they deem appropriate.  Doesn't always work out.  Sometimes I'm too obtuse ... sometimes THAY are too scattered.  It's an opportunity MISSED for all involved.

Wie COULD have answered the question of, "Why Here ... Why now"" with a pat response to meaningless post event correspondent barrage ... or TRIED to offer a DEEPER response.  NONE would have satisfied.  Thanking yer preferred GOD doesn't cut it.  Nor does a blow-by-blow recap.

When the smoke CLEARS ... Michelle Wie NEEDS to answer that SIMPLE question ... "Why here ... why now".  There IS a REASON ... but it's NOT VALID in an environment where Thoughlessness is King.

The question ... "Why here ... why now ..." has FAR more IMPORT than the simpleminder can glean.  It's a question calling for ponderance ... soul-searching ... attaboys.

... it's the kin of qestion that one might through out IF one were interested in a substantive answer 9now or in the future).

ILG CLAIMS to be and EDJIMMYIKATER.  NOT in MY State ... MAYBE in Vancouver.

Great question ... not answerable at that moment ... but a foot in the door later.

Conclusion"

BRILLIANT Question!!!

...Vlad

Uuuuuhhhh, Vladdie????  You must be exceedingly giddy after watching Michigan lose all those football games or something...  :-)

Think about it for a minute...

And instead of November 2009, let's say it's June 1962 after Nicklaus won his first pro tournament (US Open at Oakmont in a playoff against Arnie)...  And some dope of a reporter walks up to him.... "Hey Jack, why here and why now?".

Or better yet, let's fast forward to April 1997...  "Yo Tiger, why here and why now?"

Fact is...  they played better than everybody else that week, and so did Wie.  Plain and simple.

Nick Faldo supposedly had a conversation with Ben Hogan that went something like this...  Faldo: How do we win US Opens?  Hogan: Shoot the low score of the week.
