88 - 71 ??????

See the Kentucky/Miami OH score. Anything can happen this early in the season.

You guys really do look like the best team in college basketball right now, (I even voted that way just a second ago), but my Tigers should not be over-looked. We are not expected to win, but a close game would be a moral victory after all the crap we have had to put up with in the off season.
At least this time we have a coach who might actually tell the guys who to foul if the game is on the line, LOL!Laughing

Good luck to you guys, and of course, GO TIGERS!!!

Good luck to you guys, and of course, GO TIGERS!!! I've seen projections of a 24 pt KU win and now a 17 pt KU win.  I definitely think KU will win but I'm not quite as confident in the margin of victory for a road game like this against a good (albeit, not great. yet) Memphis team.  I hope I'm wrong but I'd guess KU wins by 10-12 pts with a sloppy rebounding and defensive effort.  With Pastner's focus on defense, KU might have to combat the turnover plague as well.

After ridding itself of the used car salesman, Memphis is quickly re-gaining respect and with that incoming class next year, look out!

what defense do you think Pastner will throw at us?  I think we run away with it against a man D, but it will be interesting to see us against a zone defense.  With Xavier on the perimeter we will be alot better, however Self certainly does not stress a zone offense and in the event we face one this early in the year we may not be fully prepared.  Thoughts?  I think we run away late with our depth and win by 20.

I think this game will be close in the first half with KU pulling away in the second; I think something in the 12-15 margin is likely.

I'd like to see Aldrich get going.  We all know he's great, but it seems like he's off to a bit of sluggish start.  I'm sure some of it has to do with Taylor and Henry and Collins and the speed there playing at, which is fine.  Just need to feed the big fella too!

it does appear that Aldrich is off to a slow start.  I am not too concerned about his point production.  THat is a product of people trying to keep the ball out of the post and making us beat them from the outside... whatever, we will beat people any and every way this year as there are no weak spots.  My concern is his rebounding.  Last year he was able to grab rebounds from everywhere.  This year it seems like the ball is bouncing the wrong way, or maybe its just that our other players are doing a better job of rebounding.  Anyways, there will be games where people allow us to go inside with the ball, and Aldrich will get his points then.

Games like tonight Phog. I see Cole putting on a show on national TV (especially on the defensive end).

Aldrich 16pts, 13rebs, 6blocks.

77  pretty much stole my thunder.   I think the game is close at half but we extend it in the second.  They have some good athletes but our depth should be too much as the game goes on.   I have a lot of respect for their program and in case anyone hasn't noticed Pastner has put together a class for next year that is nothing short of amazing.  They may not win 30 this year but the Tigers are here to stay and do present a nice test for us.  They will play intense defense and push us at times.

By the way, anyone notice what our first opponent Hofstra is up to tonight?  The trail UConn by 2 points with under 2 minutes to play.

That was a pretty awful first half of basketball.  12 turnovers and if it weren't for Memphis going 2-14 or something like that from 3, KU would be losing this game.  Guys are playing way too fast and making stupid decisions.

Like Self said, they need to slow it down just a touch and run the offense.  Cole looked very good, but he didn't have enough looks considering he was getting layups/dunks every time he put it up.

Self will get them settled down; I look for a much better 2nd half.

Yep.

And, FHSU, PSU, and Hofstra told us nothing about how good we are this early in the season.  Memphis is a much better guage of this.

Memphis is quick and playing like an underdog.  A few more made 3s and KU is playing from behind.

I think the fouls on Memphis will play a key role in the 2nd half.  KU needs to keep feeding Aldrich and letting him shoot to score or get fouled.

I've had to step away a few times to tuck the kids in but when I've been watching I haven't seen CJ.  I thought he was cleared to play.  Has anyone seen him tonite?  Without Morningstar, Releford, and Little we're not quite as deep as we were.  Would love to see him get his playing legs back.

Memphis is really playing tough. and ku is not sharp. we dont look like the number one team in america. And MSU didn't look like the #2 tonite either!  Win or lose, KU is going to be fine.  Memphis is a better team than many have given them credit for.

Coach Self must have got my text's.  They're feeding Cole and he's getting fouled!

Seeing Colling leave due to injury twice isn't good.  Hopefully, just a nagging cramp.

That Memphis press could cause some more TOs.  Really need Sherron in there for ball handling.

The flop of the night award goes to Doneal Mack for falling down after Markief brushed the hair on his forearm after the Tigers 47th 3pt attempt of the night.

If you can't win by competing, flop.

Kansas Escapes!

two immediate observations:  KU needs a healthy Collins and a healthy CJ (for depth) and Memphis is better than advertised (as Coach Self said in his Holly Rowe interview)

Turnovers, defensive lapses, etc.  At their worst, KU still beat a very good team.

In his Holly Rowe interview, Coach said we had individuals play out of character.  Who do you suppose he's referring to and what, specifically, did they do or not do?

That was painful.  A win is a win but Memphis was 6-25 from 3 and KU had 21 turnovers.  Let me repeat that; 21 fkng turnovers!

KU ran very little offense and played completely out of control.  I guess you have to give Memphis some credit for forcing the faster pace, but there were certainly plenty of mental letdowns from KU.  Aldrich looked good which was nice to see but that's about the only good thing I can take from this.

Probably a good thing too that a game like this happened this early.  Definitely can serve as a little reality check and will give Self a ton of game film to "coach 'em up".

Wow.  That was too much.

Who do you suppose he's referring to and what, specifically, did they do or not do?Tyshawnn Friggin Taylor.  He went absolutely off his mind the second half.  I was repeatedly throwing something at the tv.  Hopefully just a one game brain fart.  He was awful.  Xavier was a freshman tonight.  Couldnt get a good shot off against their athletes.

In the end, it is a W.  Take it and run.  A lot of credit to a scrappy Memhpis group.  Just couldnt get any seperation.

KU only took 5 3 point attempts though and I don't recall a 3 point attempt in the second half. Neither team shot the ball very well, in fact both were pretty abyssmal from the field. Bad shooting night or great defense on both teams?

I mean, Cole had a great game, with like 6 blocks, 12 boards, 16 or so points and the defense played mostly pretty solid. Both Elliot and Kemp's last made 3 pointers were well defended, just great shots.

And look around the college basketball world and you will find a lot of teams struggling early. Sparty barely escaped Gonzaga after trailing most of the game. Kentucky was down 18 points at one point. UConn was losing to Hofstra. UCLA got upset at home by UC Fullerton! Georgetown got all they could from Temple. Kansas looked poor sure, but many teams are looking pretty poor right now.
