Looks like Samhan from St. Marys is a rebounding machine. Collected 16 against the Aztecs going up against Thomas, Leonard and White. The 3-some still managed to collect 22 rebounds against St. Marys, but it wasn't enough. Mickey McConnell had a hell of a game with 24 points and 7 assists.

I watched about 8 minutes of the game & they looked out of sync runnin' up & down the court throwin' up bricks.  They weren't the only ones.  UCLA looked real garbage yesterday against Cal State Fullerton & Kentucky wasn't so hot against Miami-Ohio.  But it's early in the season, teams start slow.  Our Squad is no exception.  I just hope we don't start slow tomorrow.

Yeah, I hear you.  It's really too early to "judge" these teams. Like you said, UNLV is no different.  A balanced approach with reasonable expectations is simply the best way to look at it, IMHO.  UNR should be a moderate test for us.  They will bring it quick and it will be interesting to see just how quickly we adjust to the tempo and get into our rhythm.  No slow starts - or at least a slow start lasting no longer than 120 seconds - will get us a win.  A side thought, does it seem a little down this year?  I mean, I didn't expect the hype that was poured out last year but the boards seem a little thin?  Maybe it's just me?  Too early in the season?

I think its a combination of things. Too much over-hype last year. The unknown quantity the Rebels are this year. Still not near a real rotation. Loosing Lopez kind of takes away from the rebounding ability we thought we would have this year. If the Rebels go 8-2 or better to start the season people will start jumping on board. This is a young team loaded with sophs, frosh and a few juniors. How the chemistry will develop is just a case of sitting back and waiting.

A side thought, does it seem a little down this year?  I mean, I didn't expect the hype that was poured out last year but the boards seem a little thin?  Maybe it's just me?  Too early in the season? I agree, it's been slow.  However, we're still in the top 10 when it comes to posts & threads created for NCAAB forums on CBS.  Personally, I'm on a wait & see mission.  I think we exhausted a lot of the "We're gonna own the MWC for the 3-peat" energy last year because of our senior leadership, or lack thereof, and was letdown.  Overall, we should be looking with a jaded-eye.  These next two games are quality opponents & I'm sooo looking foward to see how they play & how deep he goes on the bench.

some people for the most part are bandwagoners, others probably dont feel ther is a lot to add, i mean we do have a tendancy for some real good information, and any disagreements or topics usually have most of their points brought about within the first few posts. I dont know how mant times we are saying " i agree 100% with..." there are some like minded- well nformed posters on here, which is what makes it so much fun.

AS far as everyones slow starts, thats to be expected like you said, however i was worried about our FT% and rebounding, these two things should have been the easier things to master against a d-2. Usually we play a couple more cupcakes before playing UNR and the other tough OOC games...this year we get right into it! schedule this year is no joke, and im hoping our guys can bring it together for the reno game.

After that blasting in football they gave us, it would be nice to have SOME bragging rights this year.

I was at both games and the game w/ Washburn there was not a lot of energy from the team and what there was was nervous energy. Also the T&M was cold. I have gone to tons of games and dont remeber it being that cold in the building. May explain the the poor shooting. I say several players blowing on their hands to get warm?

The energy was great in the Pitt State game. Would love to see them use the press/trap throughout the season. We are deap enough and athletic enough to make it work. Would love to see the Rebels start to get scores early in the shot clock and push the ball more, every time down doesnt need to be a set play. Love the defense in the 2nd half. Keep shooting Kendall and get aggressive Jasper and we will be ok.

As far as SDSU goes Shelly and Thomas were not winners at Pepperdine and while they are talented I expect SDSU to be what the are every year, talented but undiciplined and streaky. They are in the same boat as UNLV with alot of new faces in key roles.

Should be fun!

St Mary's is the only team that scares me in the Diamondhead classic, we won't have to face them unless we both make it to the fianl game but I fully expect that to be the case.  We will need to resolve our rebounding and Free throw shooting woes before that if we want to win the Diamond Head Classic and in my opinion a second place finish in that tourney is not a very good resume builder for the Dance at the end of the year.  If you look at the teams with USC being what they are the only teams that can be considered quality teams are us and St Mary's.  Plus I am hoping I don't start seeing threads about UNLV's 2010-2011 team before conference play begins.
