I thought it appropriate to start a thread about Elliot Williams and how he's played the first two games of the regular season.  He has dropped 19 and 21 in his first two games and the latter total coming against the Kansas Jayhawks.  While he did shoot a lot in the Kansas game, there was only a few "bad" shots.  I'm very glad he's doing well for his new team because we all know his situation, and I'm sure all of us Duke fans wish him the very best.

So, with all that said, what do you think about the possibility of what would have been the 4th (I consider Singler part of the backcourt now...IMO) option in the backcourt for Duke being the player of the year in Conference USA?

of course he starts scoring when he leaves Duke, he couldn't make a damn shot when he was here.  I think he will go far though, he was always talented, and it's sad to see Duke lose his services.  Glad to see he honed his skills of basketball over the summer and didn't take care of his mother!!!!!

I'm happy for the guy.  He played really well last night and seemed to put a lot of trust in him and he never backed down from the challenge.  With Coach Calimari gone, I see myself rooting for Memphis a bit this year and I do see him as a POY candidate.  It was cool to see his mom in the stands watching him play.  I'm sure the comfort of knowing his mom is in the stands and doing well will only elevate his performance on the court.  It's a shame he isn't still with Duke because he would have done a lot of good things for them.  The way I see it, if we still had Williams chances are Dawkins would still be in high school.  It all happens for a reason and I'm ok with how it all turned out.  He seemed to be a good kid and I wish only the best for him and his new team.

Another interesting development is the play of Taylor King who transferred two years ago to Villanova.  He has played rather well for a Villanova team that may finish in the top 3-4 of the Big East.  It's just says something that Duke has had so many transfers that could have helped the team(let's not forget Eric Boateng who we get to see when Duke plays Arizona State University, and Jamal Boykin for Cal).  Eric Boateng especially as he is averaging roughly 15 ppg and 10 rpg for a moderately talented ASU team.  Granted Jamal and Eric would have graduated by now if they stayed at Duke (assuming no red-shirting here), but that would have given a deeper front court last year which was sorely needed.

Am I missing any other Duke recruits who have transferred recently?

Frenzy, how ignorant are you? I mean really, you are bashing a kid that transfered to be closer to home because his mom was sick? Thats mature. And did you watch Duke play last year? When he got his chance he was a big part of Duke's offense. Ill give you that he couldn't make a free throw for his life, but he has always been a good shooter, and an even better defender.

dont get all butt hurt lazylaxer, for one i was joking about his mother, 2.  His skills came defensively last year, as for his offensive scoring and being a good shooter, lets look at his numbers.

FG %  44.1     FT %  50   FG3% 25    Average points per game: 4.2

So.... as I said before, he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn last year.

He may not of been a great shooter, but he is explosive which helped Duke a lot last year, and as fro the 4 points a game, that is because he barely played until the one game where he got in and K decided he deserved more time.  And I don't care if you are joking about his mom or not, that was completely disrespectful. Glad to see you look at Duke threads in your spare time and don't learn any respect!!!!!

i wish williams the best, but i think duke got a raw deal in that williams can play right off, but the transfer we replaced him with(curry) we have to wait a year to be able to have him play. anyone agree?

guys,  I wish his mother the best. The joke i was talking about, has some truth in it though.   If his mother really needed him to be by her side, then transferring to memphis, he should of still sat out.  Why did he want to play right away?  Why he he suddenly improve?  If my mother was sick and dieing I wouldn't be worried about basketball.  I would be taking care of my mother.  I'm just skeptical as to how sick she really was.   If that's insulting, well sorry.

hey was great for duke at the end of the year, he didnt get a lot of playing time early b/c coach k was trying to figure out which lineup would be best for the team. williams started at the end of the year and was doing well and started shooting better. he is a great kid, i was really disappointed when i heard he was transferring because we already lost gerald henderson, who i thought williams had the potential to be around, they both started out as slashers that were good at finishing and had a decent shot and were good defenders and slowly henderson's shot came around and he became a fantastic player and i miss them both. we now have dawkins in his place who should get a lot of playing time and he might not be quite as good a defender as williams, but he is a better shooter now. anyways, i miss williams and wish him the best and wish he could come back here because we have little depth in the backcourt.

He's playing better cause at Memphis it's HIS TEAM.  When he was at Duke last year, it was Scheyer and Singler's team, so of course Williams isnt going to put up 20 points consistently, especially since he really didnt get any time until late in the tough ACC season.  He was always a talented kid, and I wish him and his mother the best of luck
