And Heyman points out the change in administrations in Toronto- from J.P. Ricciardi to Alex Anthropoulos- means an in-division trade is no longer out of the question.
Heyman also points out that with Halladay seeking a big payday from whoever acquires him, the suitors for his services could quickly dwindle to the precious few big-market teams who can afford to pay him long-term.
He lists the Yankees as option 1, the Red Sox as option 1A for Halladay. Keeping him in Toronto for now is second, with the Phillies, Angels and Mets all trailing behind.
...no secret that he would rather stay on the east coast.....which eliminatees LAA altogether.....but this might turn into the yanks vs sox slugfest for tex a year ago.....
No thanks....Im sure this begins with Montero and ends with Hughes....He will be 35 and will cost about 5 years at close to $100 mill....Again, no thanks
I think the Yankees are better off just keeping all of their prospects and signing Lackey. He only costs money and the Yankees have an endless supply. If they really want Halladay, they can buy him in a year (along with Cliff Lee, Beckett, Webb and others that will be free agents at that time.) I don't think the Red Sox should trade the farm for Halladay (and pay him $20M+) in the process. It's bad business....and it's the Johan Santana situation all over again....
Yanks wouldnt sniff Lackey at those demands...And they certainly better not sign that sinking ship known as the USS Beckett........As far as the Sox, I think they would be better off parting with Buch and Bard for halladay than Adrian Gonzalez...
I hope the Yanks don't get Halladay or Lackey. Lackey isn't worth the money he is going to want and Halladay will cost too much in prospects. You'll also havta give him a generous extension. With guys like King Felix, Cliff Lee, and Halladay being free agents after next season, I hope the Yanks hold off on big name free agents this offseason and wait until after next season to make a big splash once again.
Yes, Yankees need Halladay. Trade whoever for him, Hughes, Joba, Melkey, and then sign Lackey. How long can they wait for a pitcher to develop into a legit starter and the Melk-man is not going to amount to much. even though I enjoy Sterling's comments about Melky I would rather have Gardner in center next year. If he goes to the Red Sox that would not be good, Burnett will have to show his mentor how its done when they face each other. If he goes to the Mets = career over.
With all due respect to John Heyman, I don't think there is any way that Halladay goes to the Yanks. Even with the regime change, I don't think the Jays want Halladay anywhere near the AL East, so I would bet on him moving to the NL or at least out of the division (i.e. the Angels). Second, the Yanks want to work Hughes and Joba back into the rotation and they still have Wang in the wings should he be healthy. My hunch is that the Yanks won't go after a starter unless Petitte decides to retire. I think the Yanks will look to put money into the outfield by signing a big-name corner outfielder and possibly a more offensive-minded catcher to spell Posada behind the plate.

I would agree with you but.....Halladay is a free agent after this year, so the Blue Jays really don't have THAT much control over keeping him out of the division. He could just sign with the Yankees after this year anyway so I think whoever puts up the best prospects will get him, regardless of what division they come from.
Yanks arent getting Halladay. If anything they are just pumping up his value for other teams (RS) to throw prospects away. They just got CC and AJ last year. The biggest name they get this year will be an outfielder. And I dont think it will be a huge name like Holliday or Bay.

Bear with me.
It is widely regarded (in Canada at least) that Riccardi made a mistake when he would not let teams that wanted Halladay at the deadline last year renegotiate his contract. Leading teams to not want to mortgage the farm for a guy with 1.5 years left on his deal.
New g.m. (not even going to try and spell his name off the top of my head) has publicly said that he is in the process of setting a window for teams that are interested to talk to Halladay's people about a possible extension before a deal is agreed upon. It seems obvious to me that this is the new guy trying to right something that he thought J.P. blew. If successful I see this bringing a much greater return to the Jays.
If he gets traded I think it will be to Boston, they have the prospects to pull off ONE huge deal. If they are going to trade prospects this off season (which I think they will) they need to get the most bang for their buck. Halladay makes more sense than say Adrian Gonzalez or Joe Mauer.
