It's as if it took our Rebels a while to understand that this wasn't Pitt State.  It really looked like UNLV didn't come to play for a while and almost gave up when the lead went to 10 in the early 2nd half.

Again, defense won it ... Also,  88 points and a 55 point 2nd half?  I call that putting the game away.  It looks like O is turning into a go-to guy.  This game reminded me a lot of the San Diego game last year.  Hopefully they don't pull a repeat and fall flat after a pretty good win.

Good night now!!

totally agree..bellfield had a great game. also our freshmen especially marshall showed that he can contribute consistently. our bigs are still horrible tho. no inside presense. but a great second half and a good win..go rebels!!!

Our depth is absolutely off the charts.  We can take out any five players, put in a whole new 5, and not lose anything.

Tonight was a case of 11 good players beating 6 good players.  And Justin?  I can't get over how good that kid is.

I thought Brice and Santee really got after it. They had mild stats, but they both were being aggressive going after rebounds and putting up shots. Even Shaw, who I don't sonsider and inside player, made some good moves. They kept the Reno bigs honest.

I hope Lon recognizes that the Rebels can do this platooning system on a regular basis. This team can come at you in waves and run all game long with that many fresh legs being funneled into the line-up. We should be running the ball upcourt all game long, daring teams to keep up with us. Bellfield was great! The freshman were really poised and not intimidated by a big rivalry game in front of 13+ thousand. Baring injuries they could be pretty tough come March.

Yes, our depth gives us something like a change-up pitch in baseball. With our depth we should really press all season and substitute liberally.

What else can you say about Marshall and JHawk. Those guys are ballers! UNLV's future is in good hands.

Absolutely! these young guys are looking far better than i could have imagined. Im still waiting to see Stanbeck go off, however he is contributing a lot for his limited minutes/points.

Man our guards can rebound...

wow our freshman are good

Damn does Jasper look good going to the hole

the bigs just need to be servicable and we could have a really nice season! anmd i really like the fact that we have a tough OOC schedule, if we can come away with only 2 or 3 losses in the OOC, thats going to look real good come march.

Our RPI this year is going to be very high. well, depends on how our cnference performs, but i could ee our RPI in the low 20's very easily, especially if Holy cross/nevada/Louisville all win their conferences.

Nice game fellas, way to fight, lets start out stronmg against So. Illinois.

I said this on the other thread, but I think our 3 bigs combined have done an Ok job. Not one of them stands our, but combine all their production and that's a decent inside pressence. Guards are our strong suit obviously, but so far this year, our three-headed big man is holding his own.

I know our center position isnt going to scare anyone anytime soon but as a unit they did combine for 16 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist but no turnovers, 6-10 free throws and one steal. They just need to get some blocks.

All in all it was a good game to show them thatthey can not afford to take anyone lightly and they have to play hard on every posession or we will not be able to beat the Louisville's or Arizona's.

I think our bigs are getting after it and rebounding better. Santee can still be a black hole if he gets the ball 10 ft of the rim, and Brice needs to freaking dunk the gd ball. That put back that was blocked in the second haf should have been an easy point balnk 2 hand throw sown. Shaw is still pudege, but seems to hold his own better inside.
I think we threw up some stupid stupid shots in the first half, a lot of them coming from the freshman, even D Jas. However, I love the inclination to drive to the hole way better than jacking up contested 3's. Much better shot selection from behind the arc!
The athleticism from this year from last is night and day. It seems that everyone can handle the rock, puch the ball up the court, and get to the bucket. We probably won't stay THIS deep all the way in to the season, but its great to know that we can run people out of the gym and switch out, especailly when we start playing games in high altitude.
Great game, I was pumped, jumping around, and screaming at the screen. Basketball has officially begun

I loved seeing the Rebels drive to the hole a lot throughout the game.  It wouldn't even have been close if UNLV was able to make simple lay-ups in the first half.  That obviously changed in the second half and they took Reno apart.  I was extremely impressed with Justin Hawkins, he is going to be great.  I think Anthony Marshall can become a serious scoring threat in the future, I love the way he hits the boards too.  Bellfield was off the charts though.  I agree with Dcut 100% that the athleticism on this team is far superior to last years team.

There is no doubt that 15 rebounds and 17 points from the 5 spot is totally acceptable. This team looks like they are going to live up to our expectations about their ability to put points on the board. To score 88 when Willis has to sit out almost an entire half due to foul problems, to have Chace still under 100% healthy, and Jasper still getting his game together, well, thats damn good. Credit goes to the entire team, but mostly to Oscar, J-Hawk, Chop (please, NOT Pork Chop) and Marshall who were both the driving force and the glue to it all. A walk-on, soph and two frosh! True chemistry is still not there, but man if it all comes together for this group they'll really be fun to watch!
