Look at the NFL. They have a salary cap, and it's the same thing as baseball. Chronically dysfunctional franchises. Oakland, Kansas City, and last and least, Cleveland. It's all about talent development in today's game. Greinke should be traded now, at top market value, so that both he and the Royals will benefit. If not, look for him to be the next Roy Halladay, stuck being a great pitcher on a mediocre to poor team who won't get traded because no one will pay that much.

Hey pain in the ass, I think I know what your problem is. you have a pain in the ass, because you have your head stuck up in there.
The Yankees have all the top payrolls among WS winners except for the two Red Sox Champs. Exactly what aren't you getting here. I never said anything about the highest in sports, just the highest payrolls to win a WS. It was a rip on the hypocritical Sox fans, that are even more annoying than Yankee fans on these boards.
The Yankees don't use home-grown talent to win, they use their unlimited money to BUY free agents to win. There should be a better system in baseball, but Bud Selig has his head up his ass.
Heeeeeyyyyyy. Maybe that pain in your ass is SELIG'S head stuck up in your ass???????
Just a thought.

akrontarheel, what are you smoking? The NFL is the same as baseball? It's actually the exact opposite.
Yes, there are teams that have been bad for a while, but those teams have won Championships in the past. The NFL has perfect parity. You get bad and you can get good again quickly.
SEVEN different teams have won the Super Bowl since 2000 and sixteen teams have been in it since then. The Oakland Raiders who you hold up as the equivalent of the Pirates were in the Super Bowl in 2003. The Raiders won it in 1983 and 1981. The Pirates haven't been in a World Series since the 70s. The Pirates haven't even had a winning season in EIGHTEEN years.
There is NO comparision between MLB and the NFL. the reason is that teh salary cap keeps the teams on a fairly even playing field....unlike baseball. You really should get a clue.
Hey, do you have YOUR head up pain in the ass's butt?

They should have traded him in July. This is the only way they can speed up the 20 year rebuilding process. Trade him now, get three major league ready players, and watch the team improve by 2011.
Word.
Phillies needed pitching, they would have probably given up both Drabek and Brown in a package for Greinke.

Yeah the Royals should trade him this year while he is a hot item. A couple years ago didn't everyone talk about him being a great pitcher and then he had the breakdown. What is to say that he won't relapse and go back to being the same way since he is now the Cy Young award winner and is getting a lot of attetion. By the way how many years in a row have the royals been rebuilding now. I'm only 21 and my dad is a big royal fan but i can't remember the last time they acctually had a good year.

Bronski Bob, you make good points, but my head is not up anyone's ass. Check the statistics for last year's baseball revenue. Yes, Yankee's had largest payroll. HOWEVER, the #1 grossing team for baseball related operations was the Washington Nationals, one of if not the worst team in the league. Yankees and Mets were at the bottom of this list. I know the Yankees have Steinbrenner's money, but where the hell did all the money for the Nationals go?
And I have not seen an even playing field in the NFL in the last 10 years. Dominant Franchises: Patriots, Colts, Steelers Lowly Piss-Poor Franchises: Chiefs, Browns, Raiders (with the exception of the one Super Bowl)
One year is an anomaly, not a change in the dynamic of the sport just because the salaries and expenditures can be capped. Baseball is about talent development by building Academies in Latin/South American countries, smart drafting, and a wily front office that can make the right moves. What was the longest the Pirates kept a star player on the franchise, 3 years? Then they trade him away for pity money and terrible prospects.
Also, as a Browns fan, please let me know so that I can pass it on to Lerner how the to turn a franchise around quickly.
