Never could understand why people just couldn' t give Jeter his due? Because he's a Yankee? Or he never screws up? Or makes a 'roid list?
(a) he's a Yankee and everyone knows that qualification for a Yankee getting in the HOF are much more liberal than that of players from other teams
hmm, if that was true Donnie Baseball would be in. See his stats compared to Kirby Puckett's
(b) he will hit the qualifying watermark (3000 hits).
He's going to have a lot more hits than that. When he's done playing he'll easily be in the top five alltime.
However being 307th in career OPS+ despite being protected in one of the top three offenses every year of his career, is not an example of dominating.
As you are well aware OPS takes into consideration power production. Jeter isn't a power hitter so the comparison isn't valid. He WILL finish in the top ten in runs scored, which can be attributed to what's behind him. But most large market teams have players in the top of their order to get runs home.
One thing baseball people (mostly) agree on is that he does the things to win big games. Whether you like the Yanks or not he is one of the best to play the game and that's why he is a first ballot HOF'er.
