Where did all this propaganda about B10 teams travelling well to bowl games. Iowa and Penn State say that their teams send 40 to 50,000 fans to bowl games. This is a total fabrication, Hardly 20,000 travel to their bowl games, BCS or other. Iowa and and Penny State very seldom sell-out their allotment of tickets in these games. I'd like for these homers to provide evidence that they travel better than other teams.
Boise State too. Their travelling to bowl games is also a Myth. They claim Boise State had 35,000 at the Fiesta Bowl. That is a myth. Boise State didn't sell out their ticket allotment either. If you disagree, provide evidence that Boise state sold 35,000 tickets.
If it is so important that the number of fans travel gets a team a bowl game, then the Bowl committees should auction off the game, using how many tickets a team will take to sell to their fans.
The 2001 Sugar bowl , LSU vs Ill. A 3 loss LSU team destroyed Ill, but thats not the point. They had only a handful of Ill fans there. The dome was filled with LSU. I know Baton Rouge and N.O. are 50 miles apart, but Ill fans was scarce.
I like how everyone says thats UC didnt bring anyone to the Orange Bowl with them last year and thats why no one in the BCS wants them. The fact is they sold out their allotment, not to mention some people just went down and bought tickets down there. If i remember correctly we outsold va tech by some 7 or 8 thousand.
Where did all this propaganda about B10 teams travelling well to bowl games. Iowa and Penn State say that their teams send 40 to 50,000 fans to bowl games It was started by Big 10 fans who else? The truth in the matter is the larger the school and more Alumni there are the better the ticket sales will be. Also some teams like Notre Dame just have a national following so they dont even have to travel well wherever they go people will watch there games. To me there are 5 teams that truly stand out above the rest when it comes to selling out stadiums across the country or wherever.
Ohio St Texas Notre Dame Alabama Oklahoma
Check those teams bowl games and TV ratings and they are always thru the roof mostly because they have been good forever and they have large fan bases away from there home states.

The Fiesta Bowl knows of the massive Hawkeye alumni base in Arizona. In fact, Iowa brought 20,000 fans to a regular season game against Arizona State in 2004. Most are projecting the Hawkeyes to bring upwards of 50,000 fans if they are projected to go to Glendale.
And yes Penn State, we know you brought a lot of fans to the 2006 Orange Bowl, but the folks in Miami have seen Iowa's fan base up close and personal. Iowa set an Orange Bowl record in 2003 with 47,000 tickets sold and an estimated 10,000 fans tailgating outside the satdium.
“They have a positive track record,” Orange Bowl representative Larry Gautier said of Iowa supporters’ willingness to travel to bowls. “In the 75-year history of the Orange Bowl, I don’t think anyone’s had more fans there.”
With all due respect, I'll trust Bowl representatives before taking your word. There's been articles over the years about how good Iowa travels and in a different article there were a couple representatives from the OPrange Bowl a few years back that said Iowa set the record for most fans in the Orange Bowl.
There was also a year where the only Bowl to sell out that year was one where Iowa was in and the majority were Iowa fans.
hookem, you obviously never seen LSU travel? Those coon-asses have the money and time, and thats all they do. At the college World Series, when LSU beat ooo yeah Texas, they had thousands of LSU people there. Ask Omaha who they like to see make it to the CWS.
It was started by Big 10 fans who else? The truth in the matter It was "started" by Big 10 fans in respose to people that just throw out there that Iowa and Penn St. don't travel well. Just because we reply to it doesn't mean we start it and that it's not true.
Find me any article from someone reputable where it says Iowa doesn't travel well. Prove me wrong then.
Hardly 20,000 travel to their bowl games, BCS or other. Iowa and and Penny State very seldom sell-out their allotment of tickets in these games. I'd love to see you show sometihng that says Iowa and Penn St. seldom sell out their ticket allotments and hardly have 20,000 at a game.
You're just talking out of your you know what and hoping it sticks. You have no clue and never heard that.
could it be that iowa and penn state fans travel to bowl games that Boise St., Cincinnati and TCU? Since those discussions arose from who the BCS bowls would invite?
Sick'em Tigerhawk_11! Tell'em about their stupid "you know whats!"
Well seriously though. Between olballfan and hookem, neither rone of them know anything about how Iowa and Penn St. travel but decide to start a thread and say how they don't sell tickets and barely get 20,000 to a Bowl Game and hookem bases how well a team travels by how many alumni someone has. Idiotic.
Oh well, I proved them both wrong and Orange Bowl reps disagree with them. I called them out so lets see them show us all these articles about Iowa and Penn St. not traveling well and barely getting 20,000 to a Bowl game. I can't wait to see their facts.
I'd love to see you show sometihng that says Iowa and Penn St. seldom sell out their ticket allotments and hardly have 20,000 at a game. oleballfan and justafan are obviously the same person.
Quote: "In the 2003 Orange Bowl, 50,000 Iowa fans attended; 20,000 went to the 2004 Outback; 30,000 attended the 2005 Capital One; 20,000 went to the 2006 Outback; and 15,000 showed for the Alamo two seasons ago."
Quote: "After Jones scored on the opening kickoff, more than 40,000 Iowa fans in attendance had little to cheer about."
That was after a 30 second Google search.
Those estimates are coming from either the school or the bowl. His 20,000 estimate came from... I'm guessing he made it up.
There's also this article from Gazette Online called "Proof the Orange Bowl loves the Hawkeyes ," someone on the Orange Bowl committee comments on Iowa's attendance in 2003.
Ohio St Texas Notre Dame Alabama Oklahoma Nebraska is right there too. It is the reason they tend to get better bowl games than teams with similar or better records.
Ask Omaha who they like to see make it to the CWS. I will actually have to agree 100% on this one. When LSU comes to the CWS this place becomes Baton Rouge North...
LSU travels as well if not better than most teams around the country. We're known for our drinking, food and party atmosphere... hence the reason why LSU is chosen over other schools for bols like the Chik-Fil-A, Outback, Capitol One...
- when Oregon State played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl we had more fans there. Some of that was it had been a long time since we had been to a major bowl.
- I went to the Cotton Bowl between Texas and LSU. I think the game started at 10 am. The LSU fans were crazy but they passed out for the second half since many of them partyed all night!
hookem, you obviously never seen LSU travel? Those coon-asses have the money and time, and thats all they do. At the college World Series, when LSU beat ooo yeah Texas, they had thousands of LSU people there. Ask Omaha who they like to see make it to the CWS. Thats funny you said coon-asses and have money in the same sentence. Yes LSU also travels well but I only named 5 teams so someone had to be leftout. Also once you have been to Omaha a few times it kinda losses its luster talk about the armpit of America!!! About the only place I can think of thats worse is......oh yeah I see why LSU fans would travel well to Omaha.
