VP, I apologize. I am not the brightest bulb in the socket.

I assumed the normal pitching stats were what we would use. I did not think those additional 17 innings were that important, especially considering lackeys better consistency, higher ERA, better post season numbers, etc I was stuck on ERA performance difference especially.

I will learn to appreciate the extra innings that you used to defend your reasoning.

BTW, I will keep the bet open in case you think Vaz's last year performance was not a fluke. If not, take the bet. Its not like we have to then be best buddies

You are so the guy that goes to a bar with a live band and sits on the bar stool at the very end reading a book about poetry....wearing a hat with ear flaps

Saw a new twist on that this past weekend. The guy was reading an "e-book" at the end of the bar. The more things change, the more they stay the same......

How the hell do you read in a loud crowded bar in the first place? much less on a little computer/kindle thingie screen....sometimes technology just makes people dumber

LOL

so now Innings Pitched is not a normal pitching stat?

I did not think those additional 17 innings were that important
it's not the 17 innings average over the course of there careers

it's the fact that Lackey's missed decent time 2 years in a row (with a noted drop in the quality of performance too)

1 year of decreased performance and missing time due to injury = maybe a coincidence

2 years in a row of that = might want to start worrying that it's going to become the rule and not the exception

On the other hand, to my knowledge Vazquez has never been on the DL once in his career. Certainly not in the 21st century (both the gregorian and rockstrongo versions of it)

By the way Steve, speaking of people who aren't the brightest bulb in the socket- any sign of positive hype?

He still hasn't told us what we said about the jets

I tried chasing him down into the thread he ran off to, but he ran away from there too after I kept calling him out for being a fraud. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messag

Can't wait for the fraud to come back.

thank you... most complimented avatar I've ever had. I have an even better idea for the next one. But I'm saving it for when Bucky gets back.

So VP, if all that injury and sliding performance of lackey has you saying Vaz is same/similar/etc then you should take the bet. You seem convinced lackey is sliding and Vaz is coming on

What are you afraid of man?

Lackey>>>>>>>>>>Vaz, thats my argument

ERA+ as the measure

Nick Johnson- top 15 player in baseball!

Why not bet wins?

It's simple.

It's ultimately their objective even more than ERA.

If Lackey's ERA is way better he should kill Vaz in wins.

If Lackey gets hurt, Vaz will run right past him.

Because ultimately..Im a problem solver. Thats what I do.

I stumbled on this video of him throwing.

Thanks for that.

You guys were probably too hopped up to notice the link to Renfroe pitching--go back and watch it, if you did not--his mechanics are so smooth it's scary.

But, he needs to hit...

Well, I'll assume the laughter is for the last line.

In my league our category for pitching wins is a simple formula: multiply wins by 2 and subtract losses.

This way a 12-10 pitcher (12*2 - 10=14) gets more credit than a 3-1 pitcher (3*2 -1= 5) but less credit than a 11-4 pitcher (11*2 -4= 18).

Its a nice way for distinguishing between pitcher A and pitcher B. There are times when ERA or even ERA+ are misleading. If Vaz has a 6-0 lead after 2 innings he may just throw the ball over the plate and let his fielders play than he would in a 1-0 game. That can happen to Vaz like 10 times!!! Realistically, Lackey starting with a 6-0 lead shouldnt happen more than once or twice the whole season.

THIS is what Im talking about:

From Ben Badler while chatting about the Indians farm:

    Jeff (Columbus, Ohio):
You called the Indians farms system "deep". Care to expound on that thought with some strenghts and weaknesses?

Ben Badler: There are some teams that claim they have "depth." Mostly what that means is they have a bunch of mediocre, fringy talent in their system that EVERY team has in its farm system. Every team has a guy who throws mid-90s but can't control it. (Casey Kelly ) Every team has a toolsy athlete who needs to stop swinging at everything. (RYAN WESTMORELAND ) That's not depth, that's just what everyone has. The Indians, for me, have legitimate depth in that there are players who are ranked in the 15-25 range who have a strong chance at having productive major league careers. The strength of the system is legitimate depth and two premium prospects in Carlos Santana and Lonnie Chisenhall, both of whom have star potential.

BOOM!

Now I know you'll tell folks that you, yourself inserted the names of Kelly and Westmoreland to make it appear as though Badler was referring to them.

Well played, though.

Thank you. I was so worried that you'd miss this post that I considered copying and pasting it on my latest Callis rant thread.

Obviously I inserted the names for Badler. Callis would have fired him if he used their ACTUAL names.

Can you please explain to me how his response does NOT apply to the Red Sox?
