LOCK THREAD CONCEPT -

This thread has been created for all of us to share our expertise with everyone else to benefit the group.

THIS IS NOT A PICKING CONTEST!

PLEASE make special note of this!!! If you have an area of expertise - Pac-10, AFC East, Big East, NHL, etc. - please make some LOCK choices from your area of expertise when you have a game you are confident enough in to call it a "LOCK". The difference between a PICK and a LOCK is that a PICK is a game you like, a LOCK is a game that you KNOW. We are here to help each other win. If you are claiming your choice is a LOCK, and you really have NO true knowledge of that game, then you are just cheating us and posting your PICK just for attention and to see your name on the board.

RULES FOR POSTING -

I take it upon myself to donate my time and track everybody's LOCK every day, as long as you agree to do your part by doing a few simple things. I will not track your picks if you do not follow these rules. You are welcome to still post your PICK or card, but unless you do the things below, I won't be putting your LOCK on the spreadsheet.

- Post only 1 LOCK per day.  You may post a MAXIMUM of 4 LOCKS per week.  A week starts on Monday, and ends on Sunday.  Choose NCAA, NBA, NFL, or NHL.  You do not have to stay in one sport.  Spread them around if you like.

- No "buying" points.

- First half lines are OK.  No second half or quarter lines.  We want the LOCKS posted early enough so we can all benefit.  Time constraints make second half lines too tough to track.

- No other "line-manipulations: like teasers, etc.

- No props.

- No moneylines.

- Hockey and soccer plays need to be -129 or better.  No HUGE favorites for LOCKS.  If you have a -200 line or something, take the -1.5 goals if you feel like it is still a LOCK.

- Do not try to cheat on lines. We, as a group, are all over the lines and every time someone gives a stinky spread, it is always called out. If the line is off, the LOCK doesn't go into the spreadsheet.

And, THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE!

You must give an original explanation as to why you KNOW this LOCK will win. And don't just "stat" us to death. Tell us about the game. And if you are going to try and fool us by cutting and pasting from another website, at least figure out how to remove all the HTML and other garbage. People on this thread are all over the internet and will find your plagiarism. I guarantee it. You can use Last 10, ATS, etc., numbers to support your argument, but stats from a gambling website are not an explanation. They are stats that any of us can get anywhere on the internet. Also, how about if you have actually SEEN the team play that you pick. I'd say that if you haven't seen a team play at least a few times, you can't really be an expert on said team.

I will try to get CONSENSUS statistics out before the first tips each day around 3:40 PM, PST.  There is no guarantee, however.

My WAC Saturday LOCK is Utah State -5.5 @ Idaho.

Idaho is flat out horrible ATS.  Just like my NMS/Hawaii game Thursday night I am basing my LOCK on the trends of these 2 teams.  Utah State is 4-1 in the last 5 games with the only loss being to the WAC leading Louisana Tech team.  Idaho is 1-4 in the last 5 with their only win is Hawaii.  Utah State has 4 returning starters who won the WAC last year and lost to Marquette by 2 in the 1st round of the tourney last year.  We all know how well Marquette ran at the end of last year. 

Looking at all the stats from 3s, to FG %, to rebounds, assists and FT % Utah State leads the WAC. 

I think that Utah State wins this game by double digits on the road.

Sunderland DNB (-114) ... facing Pompey.  Pompey is facing Administration (Bankruptcy).  If they this happens they will be the first PRemier league team to which this has happedned.  IMO they will be focusing on league play and avoiding relegation.

As you can all tell this piece is a direct cut and paste on some stats about Utah State...

As of Jan. 22, Utah State ranks fourth in the nation in free throw percentage (.768), 10th in three-point shooting (.414), 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.41), 18th in turnovers per game (11.4), 27th in scoring defense (60.4), 28th in scoring margin (+13.4), 29th in field goal shooting (.480), 30th in assists per game (16.0) and 34th in rebounding margin (+5.9). Individually, junior forward Tai Wesley ranks 24th in field goal shooting (.560) and senior guard Jared Quayle ranks 53rd in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.29).

It seems this team has had a fire lit under them since a dissapointing home loss to Virgina. At the time left them 0-2 in the ACC.
Since then they have not only beat the Spread each of the last 3 games. They have blown it away.

They played as a double diget Dawg against a at the time RANKED FSU on the the road. Not only did thye beat the Spread. They won outright and dominated the entire game.

Come back again as a big Dawg against a Clemson team high off its UNC victory. Clemson runs over top of them at first but they chip away the lead in the second half. Came close to winning outright. Beat the spread.

Next time they play duke as double diget Dawg. And once again, not only do they win outright, they had control of the game.

NCST hasn't lost to anyone by more than 8 since December first. That was the only time all year that has happend.

CAA LOCK OF DAY GEORGE MASON -6

This line isn't even close. 7-1 Mason traveling to cellar dwelling 1-7 Towson. Since Towson moved to the CAA earlier this decade, they have lost every single contest against the Mason Nation, including all 3 meetings last year. While Mason showed some promise earlier in the year with a last minute loss to Villanova, they also had some rough losses(Tulane, GW, Radford). Since that Radford loss, Mason has won 6 of 7 games. Towson's 4 wins this season has come against Miami(OH) Hampton Delaware....all with 5 wins and 1 win UMBC. Nothing impressive there. Towson fans are calling for the firing of Pat Kennedy as he is in his 6th season of "rebuilding" and it gets bad to worse as they have a 3rd string walk on point guard running the show.

LOCK OF THE DAY  Sheffield Wednesday -1/2 -120

Sheffield playing hosts to Peterborough.Both teams are in the bottom part of the standings in the Championship and both teams recently changed managers.The change for Peterborough didn't help as they are in the relegation zone and I don't think they have what it takes to stay in this league.Posh gives up goals away and has problems scoring on the road(just 8 in 12 games) also.Sheffield has not been good to start the season and only have 3 home wins but with the change they have reacted well ,they have scored  6 in the last 3 games and have 2  road wins against tough opponents to pull them out of the drop zone.To make matters worst for Peterborough, they will be missing two first team defenders in Bennett and Morgan.

Man u -2 -141 I think we get a push at worst. Man U getting the injured players back and I don't think Hull scores.hull did next to nothing in their last game to Tottenham but still got a result with a 0-0 draw thanks to their keeper making miracle saves.

Albinoleffe -1.2 +106  (Italy serie B) This game has two teams also in the lower part of the standings but both in good form.Cittadella have only lost 1 of their last 5 but has lost 6 of 11 on the road.Albinoleffe have not lost in their last 6 with a draw and five consecutive wins.Albinoleffe in their last 5 have only conceded 2 goals while scoring 9.

ManU. completes a 11.34 to 1 parlay I had from 2-3 days ago... Screwed up and added a team that wasnt playing the day I made it.. Hopefully they make it happen and I get some extra cash for the NCAA games tomorrow

Lock:   Michigan +11.5 @ Purdue

Michigan has been playing solid basketball since the beginning of the year.  They've really come together as a team and I've come to appreciate what coach Beilein brings to the table.  They've recently beaten Connecticut and had every reason to beat Wisconsin in Madison where they led up until the last minutes of the game (not something done by many teams).   The defense is solid and the offense has been good both inside and out.

Purdue on the other hand is good yet been struggling as of late.   This line is way too high against a Michigan team on the rise.



Also like and playing ...

- Minnesota vs Michigan State UNDER 137 - Two teams that have played under the total 6 of the last 8 games.  Last game on 1/13 was a combined 113 pts.
- Ohio State +6 @ West Virginia - With Turner this team is hard to beat.  I believe they win this game outright!
