Original LOCK Thread 02.03 (Wed) - Post Your LOCK

February 2, 2010 11:28 pm

READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST!!!!!!!!!

REMEMBER - A MAXIMUM OF 4 LOCKS PER WEEK!

AND A MAXIMUM OF ONE LOCK PER DAY!

LOCK THREAD CONCEPT -

This thread has been created for all of us to share our expertise with everyone else to benefit the group.

THIS IS NOT A PICKING CONTEST!

PLEASE make special note of this!!! If you have an area of expertise - Pac-10, AFC East, Big East, NHL, etc. - please make some LOCK choices from your area of expertise when you have a game you are confident enough in to call it a "LOCK". The difference between a PICK and a LOCK is that a PICK is a game you like, a LOCK is a game that you KNOW. We are here to help each other win. If you are claiming your choice is a LOCK, and you really have NO true knowledge of that game, then you are just cheating us and posting your PICK just for attention and to see your name on the board.

RULES FOR POSTING -

I take it upon myself to donate my time and track everybody's LOCK every day, as long as you agree to do your part by doing a few simple things. I will not track your picks if you do not follow these rules. You are welcome to still post your PICK or card, but unless you do the things below, I won't be putting your LOCK on the spreadsheet.

- Post only 1 LOCK per day.  You may post a MAXIMUM of 4 LOCKS per week.  A week starts on Monday, and ends on Sunday.  Choose NCAA, NBA, NFL, or NHL.  You do not have to stay in one sport.  Spread them around if you like.

- No "buying" points.

- First half lines are OK.  No second half or quarter lines.  We want the LOCKS posted early enough so we can all benefit.  Time constraints make second half lines too tough to track.

- No other "line-manipulations: like teasers, etc.

- No parlays.

- No props (unless you give a site where we can check the line).

- No moneylines.

- Hockey and soccer plays need to be -129 or better.  No HUGE favorites for LOCKS.  If you have a -200 line or something, take the -1.5 goals if you feel like it is still a LOCK.

- Do not try to cheat on lines. We, as a group, are all over the lines and every time someone gives a stinky spread, it is always called out. If the line is off, the LOCK doesn't go into the spreadsheet.

And, THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE!

You must give an original explanation as to why you KNOW this LOCK will win. And don't just "stat" us to death. Tell us about the game. And if you are going to try and fool us by cutting and pasting from another website, at least figure out how to remove all the HTML and other garbage. People on this thread are all over the internet and will find your plagiarism. I guarantee it. You can use Last 10, ATS, etc., numbers to support your argument, but stats from a gambling website are not an explanation. They are stats that any of us can get anywhere on the internet. Also, how about if you have actually SEEN the team play that you pick. I'd say that if you haven't seen a team play at least a few times, you can't really be an expert on said team.

FOLLOW THESE RULES AND I WILL TRACK EVERY LOCK YOU POST - FREE OF CHARGE!!!!!!

I will try to get CONSENSUS statistics out before the first tips each day around 3:40 PM, PST.  There is no guarantee, however.

Thank you for your understanding and your help in keeping this thread for the benefit of everybody, not just a place for you to blather out random picks and toot your own horn.

Good luck today and let's work together to win some cash!

Good morning
I'm posting this now because I work 12 hours on Wednesday and won't have time tomorrow.

The backyard brawl!! The football rivalry is the 14th oldest in the United States and is typically shown on national television. In the past, the Backyard Brawl has been seen on ABC, CBS, ESPN, and ESPN2. Both schools are currently members of the Big East Conference, making the Backyard Brawl the oldest rivalry in the conference. Through the 102 games played between these two schools, Pitt leads the series by a 61-38-3 margin. On Saturday, December 1, 2007 the 100th edition of the Backyard Brawl took place at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown, West Virginia. The 4–7 Panthers upset the second-ranked Mountaineers 13–9, knocking West Virginia out of the BCS National Championship Game. The game was one of the most important Backyard Brawls, one of the biggest upsets for the Pittsburgh Panthers, and one of the biggest upsets of the season, voted as the "Game of the Year" by ESPNU.

Pitt won 6 out the last 8. I know that they are young and that they started out strong but then the bottom fell out. Forget about stats and age and ability and concentrate on the fact that Pitt wins about 60% of the time.

Oh, and Jamie Dixon lives on my UPS route and he promised me a win!!!

PS   I own the East

Found a play to invest today's winnings in for tomorrow: XAVIER- 7.5 (bought 1.5 pts). They are consistently covering the spread and a double-digit win is what I expect. This is a solid team that the public has been undervalueing. UMASS has only covered the spread in 1 home game all year vs. an overinflated MEMPHIS team in mid December. GOOD LUCK whatever you play.

Warped Lock Pick for Wednesday:

Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 PL over the Edmonton Oilers (current PL showing at +155)

Now that the Edmonton Oilers finally won a game to break a 13 game skid and satisfy the "law of averages", they're free to play like their old selves and hit the loss column again.  The St. Louis Blues are actually sporting a winning record on the road, so warped minds are going to take a pass on what earlier looked like a promising Blackhawks gimmie on that game (tho -120 on the Blues +1.5 pucks looks mighty tempting; it's not every day you can get that kinda value for a team with a winning road record, but methinks there's a reason for that...)

Ray Emery has been playing well in nets since his return, and the day off since pitching a 3-0 shutout against the Calgary Flames (who just waxed said Oilers team 6-1 the other night) combined with a short hop of a trip to Edmonton can't hurt the Flyers' chances any.  I look for Jeff Carter to have a big night against the bottom ranked team in the NHL, and with Philly finally showing signs of being the upper echelon team everyone expected them to be at the beginning of the season, this has the smell of a blowout in the making.  Going for a nice, boring win here: boring is good:)

GL all!

Im loving all the WVU-Pitt talk... but Betting the game line, is crazy.. I could easily see the Mountaineers winning this by 10. I will be betting halves. Like I've done for about 4 straight WVU games, in which, I'm about 10-0.

Again, Huge WVU fan. We do hate pitt. However, I'm sticking to my guns. WVU is a defensive team and 2nd half team.. so bet the Pitt +4 (or +3.5) 1st half and the over. and in the second half.. bet WVU and the under...

If you wanna bet on the total go over 127. but IMO your gambling betting the 8pt. spread

(when it comes to BBall we hate Louisville much more.. and you saw how that played out in motown...)

Great night mpk.  I had the other side in the det/sj hockey game.  The Parlay you won because of that game was better than the Parlay I lost because of it so, glad for you on that one.  Let's do it again tomorrow gents!

Some early thoughts on NC St/Virginia.

The trends lean towards the over.  My book doesn't post totals until tomorrow, so not sure what it will be but....

NC St. as dog 6-2 over, on the road 5-1 over, vs. conference opponents 5-2 over.
Virginia as fav. 6-1 over, at home 5-0 over, vs. conference opponents 3-2 over.

Let's keep the winners coming!

Nice night we had last night!!! Money in the bank boys!!!!!!!!

#2 LOCK PICK OF THE WEEK
ILLINIOS -4.5

The fighting Illini aren't the greatest team in the world. Their biggest road win to date is @ Clemson. They will be hungry in this one to keep pace for the stride to make the big dance. They are currently 14-8 going against the doormat of the big ten in Iowa. Iowa is pretty much in rebuild mode and has been for the last few years. Their offense is pretty much Matt Gatens (12.1 ppg) and Anthony Tucker (11.9ppg). They are 7-7 @ home this year. All of their wins are against teams that aren't worth noting. The Illini has already beaten them this year 59-42. I don't expect anything different in this matchup. The illini will be to big inside for the hawkeyes and Mcamey, Tisdale and company will slam the door with the season sweep. This one won't be close Illinios by 14.

Lock it up holmey.
2-2 in lock picks
6-3 for the day

Let's keep the good teamwork up boys. We all crushed yesterday. The stats don't lie.

OTHER PLAYS I'M PLAYING
KANSAS-13.5
GEORGE MASON -1.5

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!$$$$$$$$$$$$$

YTD LOCK Record: 2-3 (Started 2-0)

LOCK #6: Providence @ Syracuse UNDER 168.5 .........WINNER

-This # is inflated due to both teams offensive scoring averages, to me the line mistake shows when you look at Cuse defense at home, and how they have been able to take 3-point shooting teams out of rythm using there extended zone defense to deny the long-range shot. Providence is not a team that can breaqk down this Cuse zone defense with dribble-drive penetration and kick out to open 3-point shooters. The Cuse guards are long and athletic and can defend. This will cause Prov to take badly contested shots. When they do feed it to the inside I see the bigz for the Orangemen to gobble them up and force the Friars big men to just kick it back out, basically getting nowhere. Neither team shoots free throws well which favors the under here. I see this total being a good 10-12 pts too high. Since I placed this bet I see that the total has dropped to 166.5 on some sites, that's good to see and I still like the UNDER 166 or 167 a lot, well just as much. One other thing, I don't see this game having any chance at 1 OT or 2 OT's for that matter, giving this total a chance to reach 168.5. I see Cuse having control of this game with it's defense, being able to control the clock late and coast to the win. Cuse defense keeps other teams to a FG% of around 37% which is great, ranking them 10th in the country in defensive effeciency. I also like the fect Cuse got a taste in there last game of how to slow the game down and play a more half-court style game with the 59-57 win @ Depaul. Cuse's home games have totaled to these #'s: IN ORDER FROM OLDEST TO MOST RECENT GAMES: 157, 152, 154, 131, 147, 147, 129. The first 2 games were against St. Bonnies and Oakland, 2 teams that run and games where the Cuse just didn't care about any Def, they just were out there to start the year and ball on some weak competition. I see this total hitting the range of 147-157, worst case scenario LOW 160's if both teams are shooting lights out.

Other Plays:

1.) Northwestern -1 (hook) *MEDIUM to LARGE* ............WINNER

2.) Villanova -9 (1pt) *MEDIUM* .................................WI
NNER

3.) Kansas State -3 (hook) *MEDIUM* .......................WINNER

4.) Rhode Island -3 (1pt) *MEIDUM to LARGE* ............WINNER

5.) Wake Frest -5 (1pt) *MEDIUM* .............................WINNER

6.) Michigan State +3 (hook) *SMALL to MEDIUM* .............LOSS

6-1 on bigger plays, 1-0 LOCK now moves me to 3-3 overall in LOCKs

Great job everyone, were all really working together nicely, and look what teamwork can do for a group! Amazing....
