The Heat have been terrible on the road all season. Call it a slump, call it doinking, call it lazy, call it whatever you want and you would probably be correct.

Only if they lose to the Lakers tomorrow, will Heat fans say it's a slump.

You are LYING if you say you aren't already scoreboard watching each night, and the teams you are watching are the Rockets, Blazers and Jazz.

Actually, I wouldn't be because I'm not. When the Lakers get back to .500, then I will begin to "scoreboard watch" and may even go so far as to pull for the Heat in a game if it can help the Lakers. Even with the modest 2 game win streak, the Lakers are still 4 games under .500, so scoreboard watching is kind of pointless right now.

Anyway, I would bet(any Laker fan except CL) right now, that your star studded team won't even make the playoffs.  Not an outrageous all or nothing bet, but I would bet.

Would any Laker fans?

What bet do you propose?

30 day avi?  Couple weeks of no posting on CBS?  Anything better you can think of?

I sort of agree, but as a fan, and with half the season to go and only being a handful of games back, I would be watching and rooting against the teams directly ahead of me, REGARDLESS of opponent.  To EVER root for Portland/Houston/Denver/Warriors/Ut
ah  as a Laker fan (unless one is playing the other) is ASSININE.

"Only if they lose to the Lakers tomorrow, will Heat fans say it's a slump."

The Heat has lost on the road to alot of worse teams  then the Lakers so far this season. The Heat has a tough game tonight  where they will be trying to avenge an earlier loss. Of course you would THINK they will be fired up to play the Lakers, but they don't seem to care/worry  about where, when, and why they lay eggs this season so far.

Hopefully they bring their A game(for Heat fans).

so DO tell me who's doing that? LOL you REFUSE to get it. but then i guess it's clear that a simpleton has no clue how to grasp the obvious. it isn't rooting for any of them, it's rooting AGAINST the Heat...

not MY problem if you don't get it. this team DESERVES to be despised...

I'd be up for the 30 day avi. Not really a fan of "no posting" bets.

turnip, what's asinine (spell it right because the term applies principally to you on this board) is that you have the temerity to speak for Lakers fans in any way, shape, or form.

I guess my logic is a little different than yours. When a team has dug themselves a hole, like the Lakers have, they can only dig themselves out 1 shovel full at a time.

Since no team is coming out of the West with a sub .500 or even .500 record, the first thing that the Lakers must do is get to .500 and see where that places them in the standings. Then they have to start picking off teams one at a time. First setting their sights on the 8 seed and moving from there.

One thing that I can say about it is that with the level that the Lakers are going to have to play at in order to even get to the playoffs, if they make it, I would not want to be a team that has to play them, regardless of what seed they end up with.

I gotta agree with Turnip here. There are multiple teams that the Lakers have to pass to get into the playoffs. The more those teams lose obviously makes the chances for the Lakers to climb up better.

Go Heat! The Lakers may be far back of Golden State, but you never know what can happen. They'll only be 6.5 back if the Heat win tonight!

Yeah, "Go Heat!"...knock yourselves out up in Oakland tonight against the Warriors, LOL!!!

rule, here's the deal - I get what you and turnip are saying about scoreboard watching with respect to these other WC bubble teams like Portland, Houston, Minnesota...whoever...but the bottom line is this - for all intents and purposes, the Lakers control their own destiny.

trojanfan is absolutely correct - the only goal right now, and before anything else happens, is to get to .500.  All the Lakers really should be focused on right now is continuing their solid play of late, defending, and getting guys back healthy.  Forget about the math, hypothetical seedings, and what other teams are doing...play well, win games, and the rest will take care of itself.

Again, I don't care about seedings...the goal - given their "false start" - is to make the playoffs and make it playing consistently well and having developed real chemistry amongst the core group...do that and, honestly, I feel bad for whoever the Lakers oppose in the postseason...on whoever's court...

I was being facetious with this statement, CL...win or lose I'm just looking for our Cali-brothers up north to play the Heat tough and soften these doinkers up for tomorrow night's tilt at Staples.

What turnip doesn't understand is that while they are division rivals, and currently ahead of the Lakers in the WC standings, I actually like this Golden State team and generally like them to do well.  And, in this instance, I'd love to see them throttle the Heat and see them go 1-5 on this Godforsaken roadtrip of theirs.

If the Lakers take care of their own business, they'll make the playoffs, irrespective of what everyone else does.

Jefe, a few days ago I suggested that Laker fans need their team to get to the .500 mark before even beginning to try talking playoffs, correct?

Anyway, you are wrong on the rest. To control your own destiny, you need to be in front, becasue by your twisted logic, any and every team controls their own destiny  , therefore the top 8 seeds are the only ones in a comfort zone.

When you say forget about the math, it is only because the math over the last 5 seasons results says you need to play .720+ ball the rest of the way to even sniff the playoffs.  THAT does not sound near as good as your rose colored " play well, win games, and the rest will take care of itself."

The only LOGICAL explanations to root for team ahead of you that is playing the Heat would be one of two things.  You either would have to admit that you hate the Heat more then you are a fan of the Lakers or the team that is beating the Heat would need to be in a position to cause serious damage to their chances of repeating by beating them.

Scenario 2 didn't and can't happen.
