Hey Koy and Don.
The Statue Got Me High- They Might Be Giants
A Friend Is A Friend- Pete TownshendI feel the same way.

I'll have to check out the Iron Man project, being such a huge Townshend fan I'm sure I'd like it. I seem to remember hearing one song from it on a Who tour around that time, I want to say the tune was called "Dig"?Good call ld. The Who did both "Fire," (The Arthur Brown song) and Dig on their 89 reunion/Tommy Anniversary tour. Dig ended up on the live release, "Join Together." That tour was the first time I had seen The Who live. I was living in Buffalo at the time (ah, college). We waited all night to get writs-bands when the tickets for the Toronto shows went on sale. They were the first shows on the tour so there was a lot of refining to do. Pete was still essentially playing in a sound-proof booth because of his tinitus and only played acoustic guitar.
There is no closk clock to determine when the game is over

I remember them playing Shea at the beginning of that tour, and Pete joking they would have to play very quietly because of his condition. I also remember that tour as the one where Pete impaled his hand on his whammy bar while windmilling. I have the "Tommy Live" DVD from that tour, and Pete's hand is heavily wrapped because of the accident. Speaking of, that is a great show with some killer guests appearances by Billy Idol, Phil Collins and Patti Labelle, among others.
By the time they added shows to the tour that summer, and Buffalo was on the schedule, I saw them there too. By that point, Pete was back to playing electric, at least part time. I also remember that previous to that Buffalo show they had refrained from playing anything they recorded after Keith Moon's death. They finally caved in, playing You Better You Bet and Eminence Front. I know Pete was never really happy with either Face Dances or It's Hard, but there are some quality songs in those albums. I think Eminence Front ranks right up there with the best of their catalogue.

My mom recorded it for me when it was on Pay Per View or maybe HBO. I don't recall which one. It's still one of my greatest regrets that I didn't go to the show at Radio City performance of Tommy. I remember waking up early and calling ticketmaster. I started calling 5 minutes early and got busy signals for a while. Then it started ringing. The operator picked up and I said I wanted tickets to Tommy at Radio City. She said that the tickets had not gone on sale yet. It was about 2 minutes too early. I hung up and as soon as I did, I realized the huge mistake I had made. I should have asked her about a different event to waste time. or for her to put me on hold. I guess I was too hung over to think clearly. As soon as I hung up I tried dialing again, but never got through.

That Tommy show form the Universal Amphitheater, btw, is available as a two-show set on DVD. It also includes a complete performance of Quadrophenia from the tour they did when they revived that record for the first time on tour several years ago. Not as good as the Tommy show but well worth seeing.
