Yeah CCB, I was hoping and thinking that the defensive backfield would be addressed with that pick. I don't know hopefully someone will fall to us in the 7th round and that Vick Ballard will be a solid running back.

it doesnt surprise me really. i felt we needed fresh legs at RB, not sold on either brown or carter. its me belief that a secondary is only as good as the front 7. play tough up front and get pressure and you can be average in the secondary. i like this draft, now to see who gets signed as undrafted fa

Not a bad draft for Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano, although I initially questioned the wisdom of drafting two tight ends consecutively, especially when we had other needs that were more pressing (DL & DB). If you have a two tight end set and you plan to run the ball (and even if you plan to pass), aren't you going to use Brody Eldridge, the most accomplished blocker on your roster, as one of your tight ends? That one had me scratching my head.

Hilton was on my draft board, unquestionably. If you watched any FIU football (and I did), this guy is a human highlight reel. As long as he stays healthy, he'll be fine.

Vick Ballard and Delone Carter have a lot of the same football DNA. Both are North/South runners going downhill. If anything, Ballard might have the advantage with better hands coming out of the backfield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6EFyAwNcow&feature=related .

I'm sure LaVon Brazill's talent has been on the Colts' radar for quite some time, since local scouts have been watching his progress, but his scouting combine tape IS pretty impressive:http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combi

rkout-Lavon-Brazill
. Both he and 2011 free agent Quan Cosby (if Cosby still figures in the Colts' plans) should upgrade special teams significantly. I would also add Hilton to the mix, but I want him to stay healthy. If he can pull a Devin Hester imitation out of his back pocket and do both, all well and fine.

I don't know anything about Tim Fugger (Vanderbilt - I see them making him an OLB, rather than DE), but he has good measureables and has been coached well enough to log some impressive stats, especially stripping the ball. I'm really rooting for the guy just to hear ESPN's Chris Berman, when describing his play, nickname him "Mugger."

Lastly, I'm happy for Chandler Harnish (aka Mr. Irrelevant) , although he would have been available after the draft and probably would have signed with the Colts anyway, as he is a Colts' fan. I watched NIU football more for viewing Garrett Wolfe and Michael Turner (who should have been a Colt). Harnish does have skill..... I just don't know if its enough to land him a spot on the team.

It'll also be interesting to see how many undrafted free agents the team signs. With a number of positions up for grabs, they should be able to sign a bunch.

GO COLTS!

A good draft for the Colts, Luck was the choice to make. Also putting weapons around him was good to. Fleener, Allen, Hilton were good picks. I'm not sure about Ballard but I will read up on him. I really like Chapman, he is the run stuffer we need. Go Colts !

Hello  Fellow Colts Fans

I see Mr Irrelevant Chandler Harnish ran for 1400 yards & threw for 11 TD's his senior season & he may be the back up of the future , I read he was surprised by being drafted by the Colts . Was expecting to be a undrafted free agent & already been approached by a few teams .

Now we need to sign some DB's   GO COLTS

That pick was absolutely rediculous with Kellen Moore still on the board. An option QB, really? Unless they are going to turn him into a RB that pick was horrible. He'll never make it past Drew Stanton. Kellen Moore I believe could have within a year or two AND could be a great fill in if Luck were to somehow get hurt. All of the draft picks were good EXCEPT for this one.

BleedBlu, I'm with you wholeheartedly. Moore would have been an excellent choice. Then again, why we didn't use that last pick on a DB, DL or an OL also escapes me, especially when we're in need. You can generally find great value with a lineman in the later rounds. Furthermore, if you really do your "due diligence" you can even find a gem of a running back (Houston's Arian Foster), wideout (Saints' Marques Colston) defensive tackle (Packers' Cullen Jenkins) or defensive back (Sam Shields - also of the Packers.....which speaks volumes about Green Bay's scouting staff). All of these individuals could have been Colts had the team aggressively gone after these guys. Although Kellen Moore seemed committed to join the Lions once the draft ended, the Colts could have reached out to see if his mind was set or whether a last ditch appeal and agreement could have been reached. There seems to be no evidence to support that they did.

Here's to hoping that this last selection wasn't simply a pick based on sentimentality. That's something a former 2-14 team can ill-afford to do.

I have gone over this draft tine and time again. I like what the Colts did, Luck, Fleener, Allen , Hilton were good picks. Would have liked shut down corner but I'm not sure there were any out there. The defensive end that the Colts plan to move to outside LB sounds promising. I'm not sure about the QB with that last pick but his stats don't look bad. What do you guys here ! Go Colts !!

Phil, here is what I just read: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000
d5d828c09d1/article/chandler-harnis
h-had-deal-in-place-with-chargers
. It certainly explains why the Colts did what they did and it also explains why the Lions were able to snag Kellen Moore. I'd be willing to bet that the same shenanigans that the Bolts tried to pull is the same thing that Detroit actually did. They probably offered a decent free agent contract, complete with "hush" money about how the deal came to be, and gave him a deadline in which to agree.

I guess it's the nature of the biz.....

On another note, let's hope the Colts can find a CB or two. I'll really be watching this Chism kid out of Maryland. As quiet as its kept, they've been putting out some decent DBs the last few years. While he's not as big as S Micah Pellerin (Hampton University/MEAC).... someone else I'll be watching, Chism has seen top flight talent in the ACC. If we can strike gold with former Howard U. alum Antoine Bethea, we can mine another nugget or two.

We'll see. GO COLTS!

Thanks Kappa, that was interesting reading. I wonder if the Chargers are going to get in any trouble ? Rodger is not taking any crap from teams or players who don't follow the rules. Still watching to see if the Colts pick up any new CB's. Any thing being said in Indianapolis ? Go Colts !!

We now know the answer to that question. Apparently Grigson and Pagano have been shaking their head "NO" for quite some time. Clearly they have a vision of the blueprint for this team's return to greatness. And while there appear to be no deviations to their blueprint, I'm sure they must recognize there's not a great deal of margin for error either. The success of this reorg hinges upon the relative health and progression of Andrew Luck. Sure sounds like "Same as it ever was" to me.

When you gut a team, especially one which has had a run of respectability like this one has had, you'd better be prepared for the aftermath.

I hope we all are.

It may not be a popular or pleasant thought, but it is a realistic one. Here's lifting a half-full glass to better days than the ones in 2011.

I just read that the Colts cut Brody Eldridge ! Now that is a surprise to me. I also see they picked up a TE on the wavier wire. I can only guess that they are tired at Brody being injured the last couple of years. I really don't think they will go into the year with only 2 rookie TE's on the roster ! I guess we will see ! Go Colts !!

Now I just read this morning that the Rams claimed Eldridge from the waiver wire. I wonder how much Bradford had to say about it since they are both Sooners !

I was surprised went I saw that Eldridge was let go. Though I haven't looked up anything about this tight end that has been picked up. Didn't expect it to be long for him to find a new team. And being a former Sooners with Bradford that came out in the same draft they should have some kind of a connection. Should be a solid place for Brody to go and battle for the number two TE spot. So ready for football to get here and see what this new team looks like.
