Gunner Kiel Update!

Just a quick note here. News broke that in the last 10 days Indiana's football recruitng class has gone from no verbal commits, to now they are at almost 10. As many know, Gunner Kiel's brother is the projected starter at Indiana this season (Drew Kiel). Rumors are there is a chance Kiel told Indiana officials he might end up as a Hoosier.



I feel like this is 100% bogus information. However it  is interesting. I certainly do not want it to be a shock with anyone if Kiel chooses the hometown Hoosiers for obvious reasons!      

His  brother Dusty is a redshirt soph who is indeed the frontrunner for the Indiana job and given the success of Wilson at OU he will be interesting factor in younger Kiels decision.

Yessir. My mistake. I talk to all three of the Kiel brothers frequently. Must of mixed up the names! Dusty is the odds on favorite to win the job and will be interesting indeed, in Gunner's recruitment.

Congrats to Wilson on the addition of Kiel! Perhaps this kid can help lead Wilson lead the Hoosiers to the Rose Bowl!

Again, I am fully confident that Allen and/or Bell can handle the Sooner QB spot after Jones vacates to NFL. We will want to start now for our 2013 QB who will come in and redshirt and be next in line.

Gunner Kiel is the nation’s top-rated quarterback in the Class of 2012 according to Rivals.com, and has been offered a scholarship by such programs as Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC and Wisconsin.  The Columbus, IN, product, however, has decided to stay in-state, and thus given head coach Kevin Wilson his biggest verbal commitment by far since he took over the Indiana program last December.

In a conversation with 24/7 Sports.com ($ link), Kiel confirmed that he has given his non-binding commitment to the Hoosiers.  Kiel made his decision today.

“It was just the best fit for me,” Kiel told the website. “I woke up having that gut feeling and felt really good about it and my parents were excited about it too.

“I’m really excited I’m committing to Indiana and I’m ready to get things started, and I’m really glad that it’s over so I can enjoy my senior year and know that I’m going to go somewhere.”

It’s been rumored of late that Kiel had narrowed his myriad choices down to the Hoosiers and the Tide.

In addition to being Rivals‘ top-rated pro-style QB, the recruiting service also rates the 6-4, 220-pound Kiel as the No. 19 prospect at any position in the country.  As a high school junior, Kiel threw for over 2,700 yards and 36 touchdowns.  He also rushed for 600 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2010.

In news that was shocking only with regards to its timing, five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel has decommitted from Indiana and reopened his recruitment.

“I’m just reevaluating my decision and plan on taking some future visits to other colleges,” Kiel told 247Sports on Friday morning.

Ranked as the top quarterback in the class of 2012 and number two overall in the country by Maxpreps, Kiel committed to the Hoosiers in late July over national powers such as Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan and USC. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder told new Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson Thursday night according to the report, two days after he was officially selected for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Kiel's brother, Dusty, is a sophomore at Indiana and his uncle, Blair, played at Notre Dame. In addition to taking several official visits, the aptly-named Gunner will take an unofficial visit to see the Irish play USC on Saturday.

After selecting Indiana, both of Kiel's other finalists, Oklahoma and Alabama, added commitments from quarterbacks. His Columbus East team will play Shelbyville in the opening round of the Indiana state playoffs on Friday night.

OU signed another kid, after Kiel verbaled to Indiana, but I cannot remember his name. He is suposed to be as good.


A lot depends on what LJ does after this season. He might decide to go another year.


If he does, I'm thinking either Allen or Bell leaves.

Nope, We don't need an NFL team.  We have a couple of world class college football teams, a couple of pro teams a few hours drive away and an outstanding NBA team.  Also a high level minor league baseball and hockey team.  So, it seems we have Indiana beat all the way around.
