NHL Selections Thread Volume I

October 11, 2011 6:41 pm

Good evening Daily Selectors.  Hockey season is here and in the past a separate thread has been started to centralize the NHL knowledge/stats/etc.  I guess the original intent was to keep it from getting lost in the Main Thread's college basketball/college & pro football chit-chat but got derailed when a certain someone sucked the life out of things.  Maybe the spotlight was too wide, who knows…

In any event....Let's put on our party hats again.  I'm not here to issue hall passes, question your knowledge, administer NHL Wonderlic tests, browbeat your selections…none of that.  NHL is my 9th BEST sport to cap but I'll post when I see something. I guarantee you know more than I do.

Post whatever you like.  ML’s, Sides, totals, parlays, x-sport parlays, round robins, props, Salami, etc.  Go nuts.  Have a ball.  And remember...we expect pucks to find the back of the net every once in a while.

Sorry it took so long to get this thread up.  I thought the $100K Thread Starter Fee was a bit excessive.  But after ongoing negotiations with Les Moonves directly, we came to terms.  It cost me my Top 1K status and I had to send back the CBS issued gold watch, but hey....small potatoes.  I did come away with a Poll Creation voucher....suckers.

Thanks Vega !!!

Minnesota Wild ml , +115

The Wild finished 12th in the conference and 26th in the league in goals scored
last year and missed the playoffs. Pierre Marc Bouchard, who had two assists in
the Wilds’ opener, is serving a two-game suspension. Minnesota also lost Martin
Havlat and Brent Burns, two key contributors from a year ago. To top that off,
Minnesota played yesterday and lost in Long Island 2-1 and the result of all
this has many bettors shying away from Minnesota right now. Not us. The Wild
added two offensive players from San Jose in former Senator Dany Heatley and
Devin Setoguchi. They won their opener 4-2 and after coming out flat in the
first period yesterday they dominated play the rest of the way and held the
Islanders to a mere five shots on net in the final 40 minutes. The Wild continue
to play sound defensively, a trademark of this team for years and this season
looks no different. Ottawa is 0-2 after a 5-3 loss in Detroit and a 6-5 loss in
Toronto. On paper, those two losses do not look that bad. However, of the eight
goals that Ottawa has scored, six have come in the third period with the Sens
trailing 5-1 in both games. In other words, they’ve been outscored 10-2 in the
first two periods of their first two games. Ottawa is a team you look to as a
pooch in a good spot. As a favorite, they’re a big risk.

here are my plays and reasoning for tonight.

there are two games so i could only get two plays down tonight.

i probably should have found 3 or 4 more plays from these two games but i was busy with dr. dre in my studio.

LOCK -  FLA/PITT OVER 5.5 +135

reasoning, because camby wrote this:
Pitt comes home tonight after the toughest and physically exhausting gauntlet in hockey a 3 game swing through western canada. They came out of it with 5 of a possible 6 pts and played well overall. Sidney crosby is still out and malkin missed the last game and part of the 2nd game. Pens have to be physically tired playing 3 games in 4 nights to start the season and now 4 in 6 nights. Look for them to be flat at the start of the game today. i expect them without crosby and possibly malkin ( even if he plays hes banged up) to play a tight physical defense game with fleury playing strong in the pipes. their opponent tonight the panthers won their opener 2-0 and are right now trying to fit in 14 new pieces to their team so expect some chemistry issues early in the season. Theodore was strong in the opener and should be ok facing the pens without their main weapon and possbly their 1a weapon. i look for a 3-1 type game tonight.

WILD ML +140

reasoning, because camby wrote this:
Like the wild to be much improved this year but think the sens will win their home opener tonight. They played well in the 3rd period in both games but sucked bad through the 1st 2. expect them to be better at home taking on a wild team who is on a back to back and playing their game in 4 nights.

Nice hit on the LOCK, HoodChamp. Between this thread, and The Pile of Fruads thread, I'm gonna be a millionaire by the end of the NHL season.

And I don't mean to rush anything, but do Camby you have any plays for tomorrow? Thanks in advance.

And thanks again to Vega for all the hard work that he is doing over here.

Nice to see everyone. Hopefully a couple of more old schoolers and familiar faces will drop something off.

Only 3 on tap tonight. You'd have to expect the Bruins ML will be a very Public play.

Why did Hood Champ's post get deleted? This thread believes in free speech. I highly doubt anybody posting here flagged his comments. Must be someone looking in on us.
