Rangers In Season Running Thread...

I disagree; I say you load up and win the President's Trophy and then ride that momentum into the playoffs.  It's time to start beating up on those Caps right now and keep beatin' on em for the next 2 weeks.  The President's Trophy is quite an achievement for a hockey club I think, the best team in the NHL over 82 games; don't give that away!

Gassy- I dont agree, I think that if Stepan is hurt at all, and Lundquist's arm is the slightest bit sore, you sit those guys today. Ottawa already lost (which I think happened after you posted) lost, so if the Caps beat us today, then we dont have to worry about their "momentum" because they wil be playing either Boston or NJ. As for our own momentum, a 2 game losing streak wouldnt be ideal heading in, however we looked like we phoned it on against Pitt, and if we put up a stinker against Wash, we at least know why.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have the presidents trophy, but if guys are banged up, I sit them.

Gassy, I have a question for you.

Who won the presidents trophy 3 years ago during the 2008-2009 season?

Ok, now who won the stanley cup?

I'll be honest, I know the answer to only one of those questions without looking it up.  And 3 years ago isn't even that long.

If Lundy was hurting as much as his performance looked like he was, then the move would have been to skip the trophy, prep for the cup.

I think Vancouver won it last year and went to the 7th game of the finals.  I suppose I could look it up if it's important, but if you're try'n to get me to connect the dots, I don't really pay attention to stats or remember things others find important.  I kinda live in the moment.  Anyway, is Kreider goin to get a shot do you think; I've never seen the guy play, but would be tempted to put him up with Richards and Hagelin, then move Gaborik back with Stepan and Anisimov.  I can't believe Anisimov isn't filling the net..., he has got to be due (overdue) huh!

Yeah, Kreider is signed. I say start him on the 4th line and lets go from there...dont want to stick him on the top line just yet. I think if we go up by two games at some point, we might see him up there. I watched his last 3 NCAA games in the tourney, pretty impressive size and speed combo. Not sure his numbers point to him being a top line player, but he did blow past some guys like they were standing still on more than one occasion. Also saw him plying the point on the PP, and he and some defenseman on BC (Doumolin I think his name was) were the two most impressive players on the ice.

I saw the stat somewhere , the president trophy came about in the mid 80's and I beliebe they said 9 teams have won it and the cup in the same year. Too many chances to get KO'd in the playoffs.

Well that's just it; you can't throw a kid out to be a grinder in the NHL playoffs, but he could light it up on the scoreboard if Torts doesn't clutter up his brain with shot blocking and defense and yaddah, yaddah, yaddah; he has got to be a Wild card, a free spirit!  It looked like Pittsburgh was in the Ranger huddle on the powerplay the other day; they knew what the Rangers were gonna do almost before they did.

But thats exactly my point.  Its nice in the moment, but in the short memory of the NHL, most people don't care one way or the other who won the presidents trophy in any year.  More important to rest up for the cup.

Best of luck in round 1 Rangers. I have a great respect for your club after the coaches rant about pittsburgh. If the caps go down I will be rooting for you
