New Mexico Lobos

All you defeatists need to take a deep breath.  Yes, the Lobos have made a tradition out of early tournament exits.  Yes, this year's recruiting class isn't exactly setting the world on fire (yet).

However, Alford has had a lot of success in his first 5 years at NM rehabilitating a program that was in total decay, and you should expect the program to continue to get better.  The idea that there is something inherent in ABQ that prevents UNM from building a powerhouse athletic program is patently ridiculous.  if they can build a football (football!) program in Boise and a basketball program in Spokane at a school with 7000 people, they can build one in Albuquerque.  This Sweet 16 curse nonsense will end within the next three years.

Hey AGW523! I've been hearing that same song and dance for 40 years now. "UNM is knocking on the door." "That 7-footer we have coming in will make all the difference." "Our underclassmen will be a year older." Blah! Blah! Blah! What nobody wanted to say about the Louisville loss was that Alford was outcoached down the stretch. Playing man defense on Siva with Greenwood resulted in a layup by the Cardinal point guard and a dish-off for a dunk in the crucial last 2 minutes. Anyone who's seen Louisville knows this Siva dude is impossible to stop one-on-one and Greenwood needed help. Also; New Mexico being out of timeouts in the end is totally unacceptable. Having a timeout after that last Cardinal missed free throw could have resulted in a potential game-tying 3 from 35 feet rather than a futile 85-foot fling by Gordon to end the contest.

dk13beso - Yeah I guess Alford was 0-8 on his 3pt shots and his 7 turnovers didn't help either. Maybe he should consult you in the future if your current college coaching job would allow you the time.

Well, now that we've seen Louisville go to the final four, and UNM gave them a tough fight, does that make anyone feel like the loss wasn't as bad as we initially thought?

Sorry HoosierSW; I'd love to chit-chat with you on how Alford can walk on water, heal the sick and raise the dead but my current college coaching job just doesn't allow the time. I need to hit the recruiting trail and drop in on the Final 4 this weekend, so hang in there bro. You must admit that not having a timeout in the end was a coaching blunder.

We, as in the MWC, were disappointed with the early exits of all of our teams but as stated earlier NM did loose to Louisville who IS in the final four so it's not that bad. As far as UNLV goes.....we REBEL fans were disappointed in their performance against Colorado but at least they didn't fold up and came back and almost won...so there is some hope. Coach Rice did a great job in  his first year at the helm and I look for UNLV to get better down the road. SDSU replaced so many people they did extreemly wel considering all that.

dk13beso-Yeah that's why they lost, they didn't have a timeout at the end of the game. Your stupidity is rearing it's ugly head again. You would have complained that they didn't use that timeout at a different time during the game, why don't you just jump on the BYU bandwagon, we will do fine without you here.

Hey Lobo Nation! You may want to take a look westward and see how UNLV will be absolutely loaded the next few years. Meanwhile; Alford is figuring out how to get his kids some playing time @ the expense of dudes that truly deserve it. This thing is going to go sour on Stevie very quickly when folks realize he's not the messiah Lobo fans envisioned. 2 NCAA tourney wins in 5 years isn't exactly legendary stuff.
