Pick 3 - The Chase (10) - Homestead

November 14, 2011 10:21 pm

Welcome to Week #36 of the Pick 3 Challenge. Welcome to Week #10 of The Chase. This week we head back to Florida, but this time to Homestead to crown our Champion. Smoke and Cousin Carl are seperated by only 3 points heading into the last race of the season, and we have a similar points battle for our Champion as well. The top 4 players in The Chase Segment are seperated by only 6 points, so some would say that we have a better points battle than Nascar itself. Be sure to check out the website for all the up-to-date Results and Standings: 2nd Annual Pick 3

So without further delay, here are the rules for Pick 3 2011:

You will get 3 Picks, hence the name of the game. Your picks are Winner, Chaser & Crasher. We will only be chosing drivers from the T-30 in Owners Points. Your Winner pick can be any driver in the T-30, but you can only choose one driver from the T-12 for either your Winner or Chasher pick. You can however choose a 2nd T-12 driver for your Crasher pick. By doing this, you are able to make some BOLD predictions, if you think one of the top drivers is going to have a bad race. So here's one way to earn Bonus points. If you choose a driver from the T-12 as your Crasher, and he is the worse finisher out of the T-30, you will get an additional 25 Bonus Points added to your weekly score. That does not mean that if he finishes 31st that you will get the bonus points, as he must finish behind everyone in the T-30.

Here is an additional way to earn Bonus Points starting in week #19 @ Loudon. If you choose a driver from the T-13 thru T-30 list as your "Winner", and he does in fact win the race, your can earn 25 Bonus Points. If he Wins & Leads the Most Laps, you can earn an additional 5 pts. for a total of 30 Bonus Points. This will be in effect for the rest of the season.

For the first 5 races, we will be using the final 2010 Owners points to determine the T-30. Only the top 30 drivers will be available for you to select your picks from. This seemed to work good last year, so I will not be making any changes to that. The list of drivers will be posted each week on the new thread, but will not changed for the first 5 races. Starting in week #6, which is the Martinsville race, I will start using the 2011 Owners Points. As a reminder, if there is a driver change to a car #, and that car is in the T-30, that car will still be available to be selected as one of your drivers. There will be a couple of weeks each year, where I add a Bonus list to the T-30. These weeks include, but are not limited to, the two road coarses, where there are always a couple of Road Coarse Ringers. Please pay attention to the list each week when making your picks.

The game will be broken down into 3 Segments, Races #1 thru #13 is Segment #1, Races # 14 thru #26 is Segment #2 and races #27 thru #36 will be Segment #3 or The Chase. There will be an overall winner for each Segment, and a Season Overall Winner as well. The top 3 winners from Segments 1,2 & The Chase will get bonus points added to their Overall score for the season. (Leader = 100 pts., 2nd place = 75 pts., 3rd place =50 pts.) If there is a tie, they will both get the points. I did change the Bonus point values, as Nascar has also changed their scoring system for this season, so I thought the amount of points was more appropriate.

During each segment, you will only be able to miss TWO weeks to be considered for the Final Standings. If you forget, or are unable to make your picks on any given week, "Random" picks will be made for you. The "Random" picks will come from the same list of drivers available to pick from each week. The picks will be "Random" to a certain degree, but I will keep track of who was used, as to not repeat drivers very often. There also could be more than one driver from the T-12 in these picks. One more note, if anyone submits illegal picks, I will try to get ahold of you to make corrections, but if no changes are made, you will earn the points from the Random picks list. For example, if you choose Kasey Kahne for your Chasher, but he is not on the T-30 list I have provided, I will replace Kasey Kahne with whoever the "Random" Chasher pick is for that week, and you will earn the points from that driver. A final note here as well, if you know you are going to be unavailable to make picks for the following week, you can give me your picks in advance, as my spreadsheet is already created for the entire season.

Reminders: If you want to PM me your e-mail address, I will send a Reminder E-mail to help you get your picks in on time. All picks must be posted or e-mailed to me before the Green Flag drops to be considered legal.

Scoring will done as followed. The points awarded by NASCAR for the drivers finish will be used for the scoring of this game. This also includes any bonuses awarded by NASCAR for leading laps and leading most laps. The driver selected in the Winner Group will be awarded the entire amount of points. The driver in the Chaser Group will be awarded the entire amount of points divided by 2, or half the points earned during the race. The Crasher group will earn the entire points earned on the track, but that amount will be subtracted from the sum of the Winner and Chaser Groups.

Here is an example:
Winner: Jimmie Johnson Finished 2nd + lead a lap (42+1=43 pts.)
Chaser: Mark Martin Finished 17th (27 pts.)
Crasher:  Brian Vickers Finished 20th + lead a lap (24+1=25 pts.)

Winner (43)+ Chaser(27/2=13.5)=56.5
56.5 minus Crasher (25) = 31.5

Your total points earned for this race would've been 31.5 pts. As you returning players can see, the scores this year will be much lower than the totals from last year, which is why I've reduced the amount of the Bonus Points earn to be more relative to the 2011 Nascar Points System.

Thanks again for participating, and I will do my best to keep all scores and standings accurate and posted by the Tuesday after the race. You will be able to find all the Results and Standings on the Pick 3 website I've created.
Here is the link to that site: 2nd Annual Pick 3 Challenge
You might want to save this link to your favorites for easy access.

I know this was a lot of information for anybody who may be new this year, but if you have any questions about this game, please feel free to ask.

Pick 3 - The Chase (10) - Homestead

November 14, 2011 10:32 pm

Congrats to this weeks Podium at Phoenix:

Hoosierguy1019-------- 54.0
Frady --------------------- 53.0
rb18, Hawkeye,
ILL55INI & jhzak ------ 51.5

We have an extremely tight race for The Chase Bonus points, which could easily decide the winner of the 2011 Pick 3 Championship. The T-4 players (rb18, Frady, Bos32Ny2Pitt86 & Maineute) are seperated by only 6 points. Rb also holds the lead in the Overall Standings, but one little slip up, and Frady is right there to pounce. Anybody who wants to PM their picks to me is fine, and your picks won't be posted until the Green Flag drops. Good luck to everyone this week.

The balance of the Results and Standings have been posted on the website.

Pick 3 - The Chase (10) - Homestead

November 14, 2011 11:55 pm

What I want to happen and pick is:

Winner Tony Stewart

Chaser  Dan Wheldon    Just as a tribute to a great driver that I enjoyed watching

Loser Carl Edwards.

But what I will pick is:

Winner Dale Earhardt Jr    Yes Tony has won 4 in the chase and all four times I have picked JR so just hoping the luck continues.

Chaser  Juan Pablo Montoya    Only as a tribute to Wheldon because they both started their American careers in IndyCar

Crasher  Brian Vickers      I gotta a feeling that a number of drivers are gonna be looking for revenge this week.

Pick 3 - The Chase (10) - Homestead

November 15, 2011 10:37 am

Winner : AJ Allmendinger

Chaser : Carl Edwards

Crasher : David Reutimann

Switched it up this time, put Carl in for Matt.  Unless the Chevy conspiracy is on, then Carl will end up the crasher.  Of course it will be someone like KK that will end up taking Carl out so Tony can win.

Pick 3 - The Chase (10) - Homestead

November 16, 2011 8:19 am

Well, since 15 or so players dropped out my 39th place out of 43 is not good. Here's to another podium finish.

Winner Marcos Ambrose- he needs to prove that he can win at an oval track to make the chase. Don't laugh he's like 17th or 18th, and a 2nd win would have got him in the chase
Chaser Carl "hopefully 1X" Edwards- OK I won't mind seing Tony win, but it seems to be Carl's turn.
Loser Kurt Busch - so that Newman gains another spot in the standings and goes to Vegas
