Starting to get some Faith in Haith...

November 21, 2011 11:29 pm

I know it was just ND and they are not the level they were last year... but the first half tonight was great team basketball and it was fun to watch.  It was very unselfish team basketball and I love to see 26 points in the paint in the first half with everyone cutting and slashing to the basket... a 52 point first half with good half court offense being played.  This could be a fun season... time will tell... but Frank Haith might be making me a believer.

I have Faith in Haith as well.....  he never had the horses at a Miami.    He's known to be a successful recruiter in the Midwest/South...which is great for the move to the SEC.

But I'm going to give him credit for actually running an OFFENSE and SET PLAYS in the half-court.    I respect Coach Anderson for cleaning up the program..but it was time to move on in my mind.   I never understood his constant subbing in/out of role players...Haith rolls with his best 7-8 guys...and Mizzou looks GREAT.

This team is built for a good run in the NCAA tourney....shame we lost Laurence Bowers...would've been our best chance at a Final Four since the Elite 8 run 4 years ago.

Great class that Haith signed as well.....lets just get this NCAA bs cleared up.    Making me nervous that Miami has withdrawn from Bowl Game considerations...sounds like the NCAA may have alot of evidence...hope that this doesn't hurt Haith.

Predicting a 7 points win tonight over California...

Loved Mike Breys comment about the JV playing the Varsity.....  Should be a fun year for old Mizzou...especially with KU looking down.

The Big XII looks wide open this year.  I think Mizzou has as good a shot as they've had in a while to win the conference.

Mike who? It's been awhile since the Tigers actually have had a half court offense. While lacking size and depth, this team shows awesome quickness and are playing great as a team! English did have a couple of his "wild" moments, but overall he has played much more under control. Highlight of the game: Sutton hitting 2 3's at the end. Well done Tigers!

I agree with the Mike who... Haith had two of the most impressive games back to back that I can remember from a Mizzou team in a long time.  The half court offense is awesome... great movement without the ball and they are getting open shots and making them.  When Steve Moore plays like he did tonight against Cal and everyone else does their job this is a really good team.  Keep it going MIZZOU!

Faith continues to grow in this team... I don't want to bad mouth Mike Anderson to much but I can tell you that Kim English seems to be happy that Haith is here.  Kim seems to be buying in to Haith's system and he is looking great and playing with a lot of confidence.  If English keeps this up along with what Denmon and Ratliffe can do this will be a fun season.

Mizzou just finished beating Villanova in the Garden by 10.  They didn't shoot the ball that well and Pressey had to sit most of the game in foul trouble but the Tigers controlled the game from basically start to finish... MY FAITH IN HAITH is getting pretty strong.  Keep it going Tigers.

I agree dmm.  After Mizzou hired him, I had heard that Haith was little more than a great recruiter.  That does not appear to be true.  We have not seen his coaching and clock management in a close game yet, which is a nice problem, but he certainly appears to have a well coached and agressive team.

Flip really continues to impress me compared to last season and even the first games of this season.  When he penetrates and dishes he is so in control as opposed to last year when it seemed like he let the helter skelter pace get in his head and he was doing too much and turn it over.

I think Ricardo has improved, become more polished on the offensive end as well.  All the penetration and interior passing especially has probably been a part of the reason but to he just looks better and more in control with the ball too.

Lastly, the team defense has been pretty darn solid due to the speed and quickness I guess but I got to think Haiths schemes have a lot to do with it as well.  Losing the full court press helps immensely as it just didnt work last year.

This half court pressure but structured defense and offense is impressive.  The comments from Coach Jay Wright of Villanova talking about how well coached and smart this team plays isn't something coaches said about us last year.  I thought it would take a while for this team to gel but they have great chemistry... Phil Pressey controlling the game with his passing sure helps people like Ratliff as he has made 30 of his last 32 field goal attempts.  Haith has the team believing and playing at a pace that lets them use their speed but it doesn't wear them out so the stars are on the court more then with Anderson... and they seem to be enjoying it and are playing unselfish basketball on the offensive end.

I was just thinking this, and saw the thread.  I was a little puzzled at the decision to hear about this hiring, but he's done a great job so far.  I will say, that I hope the recruiting is as good as Anderson.  All of these players are from Anderson.  Do you think that it'll be the same?  I hope so.  We still have a long way to go.  I'll have more "Faith in Haith" if we win in the Big 12 and SEC.

Beat Illinois and maybe people will have reason for excitement. Play SOMEONE. MU's schedule is a joke this year, worst in the Top 25 by far (except for Baylor).

Just looked it up, the only teams in the CBS RPI Top ONE HUNDRED with a strength of schedule worse than Mizzou are #78 Wyoming, #97 North dakota State and #98 Auburn. Wow.

Twocoach, when the schedules were created...Villanova, California, and Notre Dame were supposed to be good teams.    If you're really impressed by your Jayhawks...you're in a for a rude awakening.   T-Rob is a beast, but come NCAA tourney time, when teams decide to play a zone on KU...T-Rob will disappear.

Mizzou is destined for a better year than Kansas..... and that really hurts you since this is the last year in the Big12 for Mizzou.   I'd love to see Mizzou win this conference in its last year!!!

Illiinois is overated..... Mizzou will win this game by 15 points.

You do realize that RPI and SOS numbers are very misleading early in the year, right???  Maybe you should focus more on your cherry-picked favorite teams.  Have a nice day frontrunner.

True the schedule has been weak.  We'll see what happens when we get into conference play.  I do however like our chances against the chickenhawks this year, particularly after I just watched the Davidson game.  I really hated to see that.  It just ruined my dayWink

Go Tigers!

I am going to restrain my exuberance until we go to Manhatten and play K State. After 35+ years, I have had my share of disappointments with the Missouri hoops program.

Miami has cleared DeQuan Jones to play. I hope this means that their will not be any sanctions against Haith from the NCAA. The kids seem to really respond to his coaching. Perhaps Alden really did know what he was doing with this hire.

Have Faith in Haith!
