#6 Arkansas vs #8 Kansas State In Cotton Bowl

December 31, 2011 9:25 pm

It would be our 4th...  my mistake.  We won it during the seasons of: 1964(our Nat'l Champ season), 1975, and 1999.

If our Oline holds for Tyler, and our D can stop KState's run, we win.

If this happens, we win by 30+.  However our D hasnt been able to stop a real running threat as of yet, so Im expecting a close hard fought game.  I think we could be looking at a 42-38 type of game.

Five-plus weeks is entirely too long to wait to play that next and final game.

Even though I've watched and even enjoyed some of the intervening bowls, the non-stop hype surrounding them served only to further remove this good Cotton Bowl clash from the mindset... almost by default, as being one of only two of the 35 bowl games NOT CONTROLLED by ESpin's World of Bowling.  Worse, our bowl is even one of the last, and thus being further buried under the shadow of the impending BCSCG.  Finally, I can honestly say I haven't heard the words "Arkansas" or "Kansas State" uttered during the dozen or so games I've actually watched most of.

Talk about out-of-sight, out-of-mind!

It's like our game is being played on an island of both space and time, far removed from reality!

Unnatural, but still, can't wait.

Closely agree with my bud, sec / Arkansas 41 - KSU 37

I agree with everything said here.

Except for the last line!

the final score is awfully damn near what I've picked though

41-38 cats

This game needs no hype.  Real CFB fans know this should be a good one.  They don't need ESPN to tell them this is better than half the BS the BCS puts out there

Of course, most unbiased CFB fans KNOW this qualifies as a focal-point game among any of the others;  which is not at all my beef.  I just take a cynical view of being omitted from any of the hype - no matter how nauseating it can really be.  The Cotton Bowl does not have to be promoted by game commericials on ESpin for anyone to see that the network has additionally gone out of its way in avoiding the slightest mention of the game - during both its bowl game-casts AND other commentary features therein.  That is the UNnatural part.

One might conceivably think that there is some bad blood between the networks, like maybe retaliation towards Fox for landing the bowl that The Family may have coveted... which, of course, has nothing to do with Arkansas or Kansas State...

Bllhogwash I think you've inspired me.  I've been watching espn for about an hour so far this morning and not one mention of Kansas State, Arkansas or Cotton Bowl

I think I'm going to start a new thread as an espn buzzword watch...see if anyone catches a whiff of the fact there's a #6 vs #8 Bowl matchup going on tomorrow!

I guess ESPN just doesnt want to promote a game thats not on their network.  Still though, they are a sports channel, and not to even mention a top ten matchup (1 of only three of the bowls I think) is ridiculous imo.  Only time I ever saw mention of it was on the NFL fox pregame, and halftime shows on sundays.

Actually we are the only top ten matchup outside of the bcs.  How about those top ACC teams?  Talk about not showing up for Clemson.  WVU the best in the east is leaving their conference.  No telling how many losses a team coming out of those two conferences next year will have getting a bcs automatic bid.  Pathetic.

Sorry to keep harping on the subject, but this one's got me ticked...

Ooo, now here's some heavy-duty ESpin commentary alright (the ONLY out there on their website) - all three from Springdale-born cub reporter David Ubben, who surely could have done better.

What does he blabber about?... basically nothing worth reading.
The Family's real talking-heads have been muted.

Your right about those stories blHogWASH...Nothing worth watching, or reading.  Certainly alot of blabbering going on, and one story goes on, and on about ATM being the reason both teams are in the cotton bowl, which made no sense to me.  Heres that link to his thread if you havent already found it...

Arkansas 29 (11-2) - Kansas State 16 (10-3)
Stat Wrap-up:

As expected, KSU won the time of possession by 8 minutes, close to the number of ten projected by a fan.  Their MO also required a ground game that did not materialize, with the Razorbacks holding them to under 100 for the game (~ 86yds) / Hogs had 129.  Finally the other aspect of their season winning formula - turnovers helped little, as the Hogs won this aspect by being on the receiving end of two, to the Hogs' one fumble.
