I may or may not be in the minority here, but I am beginning to become very irritated with Charlie Peprah. Following yesterday's victory he had this to say:

"We might do a lot of B.S.-ing during the game, not focusing, not doing what we need to do," said safety Charlie Peprah. "But when it comes down to making a play, we've been getting it done all year. Offense and defense."

A few weeks back he made another gem in which he basically said that the defense doesn't have to worry about sucking since the offense is so good.

I'm sorry but this mindset is worrisome at best, I really honestly believe that our LBs, Dline are playing their guts out and that our CBs are playing pretty well. But our safety play has been attrocious and I think Mr. Peprah could use an attitude check. It's pretty tough to play defense when you can never stop the 3 step and heave passing game.

At times, the defense has had costly enough collapses that hurt alot, but the offense has been - for the most part - better than opposing defenses AND our poor defense. Thus, a 12-0 record.

I am truly, truly afraid that when the boat sinks - and every NFL team has a stinker now and then - it will be playoff time and there will be no tomorrow.

All you TT lovers that "trust in God" are just fooling yourselves because we're 12-0. Winning makes able seeing men blind. At one point last year we were NOT going to make the playoffs. All the playoff Gods smiling in our direction and a winning streak into February cured a lot of ills - and made defensive issues irrelevant. He ignored the D-Line counting on broken down Neal and walked Jenkins to the door. He ignored the OLB job counting on a handful of street free agents who will always be mediocre at best, anywhere in the NFL. He never learned from the devastating blow to the secondary last year when Burnett went down and underestimated Peprah's worth and talent this year, heaven forbid we get another injury - which we did.

Like the run to the Super Bowl last year, I do hope our "D" doesn't let us down with our broken parts and depleated "mediocrity." But TT has built a "D" set up for failure, and it's bound to happen. I hope it doesn't, but the design and the talent on this year's "D" is certainly shaped for more failure than success.

Unlike most of you, I don't trust in TT without question and I'm afraid this D has more holes than fingers that can be placed in the leaking dike.

I agree with you here. I think the defensive team leaders (Woodson, Mathews, Collins) should hold a little meeting and talk this out. The defense definitely needs to shore itself up. I know, just like everyone else does, that the Packers offense has been playing incomparably well, but that is no excuse to slack off on defense.
I do, however, think that Coach Mac and Dom Capers will get this fixed before the playoffs.

Go Packers!

I think Charlie Peprah is average at best, but we have depth at most other positions, you can't have a perfect team, you have to make due when a key injury hits a weak area.  The Packers are doing that.  Yes any game in the playoffs may be a stinker which is why this year I am trying to just emjoy each and every game.  I don't want to wind myself up worrying about what may happen in the payoffs and miss enjoying this great run the Packers are on.

As for TT, I used to be critical, but when you have won a Super Bowl and your current team is 12-0 then yes you do get a free pass IMHO.  I don't question him anymore because he has come through, bigger than any of us ever imagined.

Every team has worries, ours are fewer than others.

I was angry with the entire secondary after watching yesterday's game. They looked pathetic out there, giving up deep bomb after deep bomb, making no real effort to stop the play. Manning was like 5/6 on deep passes, and even after they were completed nobody tackled properly. Watch a team like the 49ers play defense, then come back and look at ours, and you'll see what I mean. We tackle sloppy, our pursuit is bad, and we take stupid risks because "it works out in the end".

I'd be willing to get a few less INTs if it means we tackle well, break up passes, and act like a professional defense. Stopping the other team is the goal, not letting them run all over you while hoping they make a mistake. Our defense is NOT the reason for our success this year, yet they're acting like they don't need to improve because they're undefeated.

I love a lot of our defensive talent, but they're not acting right. They need a wakeup call, but I'm concerned it will only come when we lose a game because of them. I'd rather that not happen...

People, this is the NFL and there are talented guys around the league.  We have the same guys in the secondary except Nick Collins.  Peprah played a lot of ball last season and generally the secondary played some nice ball.  They miss Collins without a doubt, but without question I think the biggest miss is Cullen Jenkins and a pass rush.  Clay has been double-teamed the whole season and the other guys aren't getting the job done.  I feel the Jenkins lost has turned out to be huge.....Wynn and Wilson are backups and Neal hasn't of yet even played to the level he played last season in those few games where he had a burst.  There is no burst in his game right now.  i don't even see the same game this year in Raji and Walden has been pedestrian from the games I have watched.  It's a good thing we have such a great offense and Rodgers because the defense has not played as well and the stats tell the story.  That being said we are still undefeated so how critical can one be.  I, like everyone else would like to see the Defense play more consistent like they did against the Lions and other opponents.  We can probably get through the remainder of the season playing this way, but we need to tighten up come playoff time.

Man what a bunch of kill joys you guys are.  TT didn't give us the best defense ever, wa wa wa wa.  Name all the teams that are better than Green Bay that don't have a wart or two?  Chrip, Chirp Chirp.  Thats right, every last team has issues.  Saints you say, basically the same issues as the Packers.  49er's, no thanks, I'll stick with the Pack.  The Patriots, see Saints and Packers.  Ok, the Ravens, your joking right?  Steelers, lets see how full their tank is in another few weeks.

Here's what I took from the game yesterday.  The Packers went on the road (never easy) to play a quality oppenent (even harder) in desperate need of a win (are you getting the picture here).  Despite a less than perfect performance on offense (too many dropped passes to count), the Packers still won.  This game didn't expose anything new to future oppenents, BUT it sure as hell built some character and reinforced the faith that the Packers teamates have for each other.  How ever more apperant was that when Aaron Rodgers 1st pass on the game winning drive went to Mr Dropsy, Jermichale Finley.  Relax you guys, this is only entertainment.  If the Packers never win another game, it is far less important than 1 child with terminal cancer.  Keep things in their proper prespective.

You're missing the point I think. We're not whining about TT not giving the Packers better defensive players, we're frustrated with some of the players' attitude. Just because we're the best team in the league right now doesn't mean we can't discuss what I feel is a worsenening problem when it comes to the defense. They don't act like their jobs depend on them making a play, they don't act with any intensity, because they know Rodgers will save the day and keep them tied until the opposing QB makes a bad throw. I want our defense to act like they're upset when they give up a long TD pass.

Relax you guys, this is only entertainment.  If the Packers never win another game, it is far less important than 1 child with terminal cancer.  Keep things in their proper prespective.
Uhhh, yeah, its entertainment, and this is a message board meant to discuss this form of entertainment.

Peprah's attitude about the whole thing is bothersome, he should be totally embarassed about that Beckum touchdown instead of running his mouth. There is a reason his position was named "safety", its the last line of defense.  I'd like to be a fly on the wall in the film room when the defensive backs get together.  Sometimes those guys are running around like chickens with their heads cut off back there.

I don't see anyone else on the roster who can Charlie Peprah's spot.  GB won with Peprah last year, they can win with him this year.  But much like last year, if they win the Super Bowl, it won't be because of Charlie Peprah.  Luckily, he knows the scheme so from time to time, the system puts him position to make a big play once in a while.  I just hope he's done "BS'ing around."

Woodson could take over Peprah's spot as could Bush. He's been a disaster at the position and he's been giving up plays that even a backup shouldn't be giving up. Thing is, last season Peprah was shielded quite a bit from these kinds of mistakes. We frequently played Pep up in the box and used Nick Collins' freakish range and football savvy to basically play center field sideline to sideline. Well this year we have a greenhorn SS in Morgan Burnett and so naturally Peprah has had to play the role of a standard cover 2 safety... and he's been an unmitigated disaster so far this season. The last time I have seen a Packer player play this poorly as a starter, Alan Barbre. Yes Peprah has been that bad. Granted this thread is a little harsh and I wouldn't have made it except for the sentiments he's been expressing like we just screw around or don't worry the offense will win the game for us.

What up fellas?????????????????

I'm with all of you here on this one.  I'm not in the locker room, but it would be nice to hear a story leak out about the veterans calling out some of these guys making mistakes instead of offering excuses.  Giants game we missed the starting LB's and there ability to stop the run before the secondary.  During the preseason I was surprised they moved Peprah out of the starting SS position.  I thought he played well last year.  Don't get me wrong I like Burnett, but he's been up and down this year too.  I would of liked to see him moved to FS after Collins went down.  My only gripe on Ted is keeping Lee on the roster instead of getting an old veteran who may have lost a step, but knows the game.  Use a guy like that in Nickle and God knows we need a T Plush kind of guy on this D to wake them up.  Capers looks to be dialing up the same crap each week.  Drop back 8 and make teams kill time off the clock in the first half and make them throw into it when there down 21 in the second half.  I still have a feeling they are holding back though for the playoffs.  The Saints are the only team that scares me in the NFC.  San Fran's O didn't impress me much.

LOL. Don't know what games you're watching. There are some very articulate posts in this thread that suggest why Peprah wasn't exposed last year. But he is absolutely horrible in 2011. As I said in another thread, it seems like every play by opposing offenses comes because of Peprah, a safety getting flat burned, caught running in circles as if he's never played football in his life, or getting run over.

He doesn't have the physical ability or the mental makeup that a safety needs to have. He's a backup, yup, but Collins was the anti-Peprah and we've lost a lot with his injury. Him+Jenkins, ouch.

We haven't gotten to 12-0 because of our defense, obviously, but we do lead the league in creating turnovers. We got to 12-0 because of our offense mainly. The top defenses in the league include the Steelers, Niners, Ravens Texans and Atlanta among teams in the hunt. Neither of those teams can match the Green Bay offense. Can we still lose despite that? Absolutely. But I like our chances.

Yeah, what happened to this kid?  They had high hopes for House coming out of the draft but I haven't seen nor heard of him.  Same type of mystery surrounds Vic So'oto, big upside - no sightings.  Maybe this is all a result of the work stoppage through to training camp.

"They had high hopes for House coming out of the draft but I haven't seen nor heard of him.  Same type of mystery surrounds Vic So'oto, big upside - no sightings."

I'm guessing that there are a lot of things we "average fans" don't see and don't understand in weekly practices. There has to be something - or lots of things - that the coaches see every day that these two players do (or don't do) that keeps them off the field.

Because ST goes so fast and then BOOM the TV coverage goes to commercials, do these two even play ST for us? I mean if they can't crack the starting line-ups are they even contributing to the team at all?

To the poster that said, "Peprah just wins Super Bowls" I hope that was tongue in cheek. Collins + Peprah was not a problem last year because Collins covered a lot of "Peprah mistakes." Burnett + Peprah is a drop off of talent over last year's safeties. Peprah is just bad. Not the worst safety in the league but no where near the top tier. Teams see on film what plays work against our deep two and they keep running them. Even Capers said he's frustrated at seeing the same plays called and those plays being big hitters week after week. THAT tells me Peprah is not improving. Or adjusting.
