I think the B1G needs to look into dropping/firing Jim Delany. Its obvious he has ohio in his back pocket and the recent actions are making it more and more obvious.
1. Allows ohio to play suspended players in last years BCS bowl game. Everyone knew what was going on and nothing but a smile and pass from Jimmy D.
2. After Dirty Jim was fired, they actually allow him to interact with team...Sure I can get over this but he was found guilty of cheating and manipulating the system to benefit his players both while there and in the process of recruiting.
3. NOW they allow ohio to have two coaching staffs. This allows ohio to have two coaching staffs not only recruit, but also beat the path and try to poach other teams recruits. (funny RR was called a snake oil salesman when he does this, now ohio fans are singing a different tune).
4. The latest, it looks like with the EXTRA recruiting help ohio will have a class of 25-30 when they only have 9 seniors leaving. Now this practice is allowed in the SEC, its not in the B1G. So spring ball will be a try out where the 9-10 less thans will be asked to go to other places. Glad he lets a team in transition because of cheating get some help.
5. Well done Jim Delany, you allow a team caught cheating to pay a coach 4 million plus, break and B1G rules right away and you approve it all.
He is now the readblock between the +1 playoff. This guy is a morn and is corrupt. We need a change. Notice the SEC is in the BCS title every year. This will give us a shot. Wake Up!
I agree in part. He has done some great things for the Big Ten. However he has done just as much to hinder, at least the perception of Big Ten Football.
I know the Big Ten exists for/has bigger interests than football. However football pays the bills, athletically speaking. The Rose Bowl is a great bowl. At times, it even provides a great game. As a Michigan fan though, historically the Rose Bowl has not been very kind to us (or the Big Ten overall). At one point in time, the Rose Bowl was the biggest money bowl, but since the inception of the BCS and subsequent NC game, this is no longer the case.
Under the current format, the Big Ten champion had a seat in a BCS game. The four BCS games all paid equally so... the Big Ten would have received the same $ for the champ playing in the Orange, Sugar or Fiesta as it would have the Rose. Besides, with the exception of OSU, the Big Ten has matched up a heck of a lot better against the SEC in bowl games than the Pac.
I wonder, of the five BCS bowl games, which one pays the most? Rhetorical question there.
Maybe Delaney is the right man for the job and has long since known what most Big Ten fans don't. The Big Ten is no longer a power in CFB in NC conversation. Maybe he has seen the writing on the wall for a lot longer than most, and has basically protected the Big Ten's seat at the Big Boy table instead of getting sent to the card table in the corner where all the kids have to eat.
I think Delaney should have gotten involved in the PSU scandal and made PSU do a thourough house cleaning and put in independant compliance staff after Joe Patrno rule ended. What he allowed at 2011 Sugar Bowl was absurd!
Now he decides he wants to allow OSU to act as a SEC team because they had to take sanctions. Maybe it's time for the B1G to change directions and find a guy that will set the league apart instead of trying to keep up with the SEC!
