Ya'll got any opinion of what, if any changes, will be forthcoming for next year with McElwain departing? It's interesting how much flak McElwain got during his tenure about play selection, i.e. vanilla play calling, but now that he's leaving I keep hearing and reading about how much he's gonna be missed. I wish him well and hope Head Coach is all it's cracked up to be for him.
It might be a bit premature to speculate on that until we know what Richardson decides ... although we still have great backs even if he turns pro. I was going to say I'd like to see a shomewhat more high powered offense out of hte new OC hire, but wow, didn't Bama score enough points this years except against LSU? LOL
I hear you but don't really expect him to come back unless his Draft position is past 1st round. Somehow I guess I'm wondering if Saban will let a new OC change much considering the success of the present offensive plan. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more wrinkles but it's hard to argue with hard running backs, an offensive line that can run block and a OB who takes care of business. Saw a program about the Packers of old and the main thing they said about Bart Starr was that he ran Lombardi's system exactly the way the coach wanted all the way to the hall of fame.
So I obviously missed the post the first time around. I think now is a bit better time for it any way. The only thing I remember reading about Saban early into his time in Bama was that he wanted a more wide open offense. We haven't seen that yet. What we have seen is him recruit talent to fit that statement. He has been going after talented WR every year. Especially these last two classes (After Julio Jones success). Nick is building a power offense with big WR's and Speed WR's. I have the feeling the will let AJ sling it around this coming year. AJ seems like a Gun Slinger to me any way which would fit well. I expect that Nick will be looking for high flying, high scoring and (most importantly) fast scoring first halves. Than typical Crimson Tide second halves. Chase guys like Gibson, White and Black all over the field in the first half, then in the second half smash mouth Lacy pounding the rock into submission. Some of that might be my wishful thinking. That is what I interpret from the talent Nick has been gathering. Lot's of speed, but more importantly balance between speed guys and power guys.
Good points. Recruiting went big time for receivers so they're still trying to find another Julio. Haven't heard what the heck is going on with the Carter kid but size wise he could be a bonus. Nick is still stock piling the D backfield and Landon Collins may be one of the more impressive finds for the incoming class. Gotta love that there are so many enrolling early so they can enhance their chances for playing time. It's gonna be fun!
I think the offense will be spectacular this year! With our returning stars, as well as up and coming talent, we will be at the top of our game! Imagine a backfield with Eddie Lacey, Jalston Fowler, Dee Hart and the possibility of TJ Yeldon filling in "gaps". Ha! New receivers, returning receivers who just started to "gel" more toward the end of the year. If AJ can continue his great improvement, which was evident in the NCG, as an understatement, we've got no problems. With returnees in the DL, and outstanding newcomers, we are in great shape! (Though the DL is certainly O.T.) I am so fired up abpout this 2012 team!! RTR!
I think the OC they hired indicates a desire to open things up a bit. However, how many more points can they really score than they did on 2011? They blew out every team but LSU. Is it that important to win 52-7 instead of 38-7? LOL
I can guarantee you that part of the success of the defense is a ball control oriented offense which gives them a chance to rest. No one turns down a quick TD on a drive, but the LSU game (redux) is a good example of my point. Even though they only scored the one TD, the Bama offense had several long drives. Not only did they wear down the LSU defense as the game went by, but the Bama defense was coming off the sideline rested and ready, and the results of that showed clearly.
