Unreal comparison

January 4, 2012 11:34 am

I almost spilled my beer last Sunday when Collinsworth had the gull to say the game against the Giants would efine Tony Romo in comparison to either Danny White or Troy Aikman...what an idiot.  Anyone knows that Romo is nowhere near either!  Danny actually led the Cowboys to the playoffs and won games.  Romo might as well be lumped in with guys like Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchison, and Anthony Wright.

And Romo's name should never be mentioned in the same breathe with Aikman unless your mentioning QBs who played for the Cowboys.

I still stand by my statement 2 years ago...Jerry Jones missed the boat when Colt McCoy was still available in the 3rd round....3rd round!!  Sure he's not a pro-bowler...he plays for the Browns for goodness sake!  He's lucky to still be walking!  But if he was in Dallas, I think he'd have a chance to develop into a solid QB...someone that could at least pressure Romo for the position unlike Kitna or McGee.  Colt led the Longhorns to an undefeated season and if not hurt in NC...well, we'll never know.  Romo can't lead a horse to water, much less teammates to Mexico for a vacation fling.

Danny White also had Tony Dorsett, Tony Hill, Drew Pearson, Too Tall Jones and Randy White all in their prime. Be fair -- White had a better surrounding cast than Romo has presently.

Colt McCoy...??? Are you serious? Even the Browns' brass isn't sold on him as a starter. If you're not good enough to start for the Browns, you should be looking for another occupation.

Let's not fly off the reservation there.  I do, however am concerned with the captains of this team as a collective whole though.  They seem to lack the heart and urgency the past few years when games are the biggest.  I would like to see Romo get a defense that doesn't collapse in the 4th quarter.  I would definitely look at drafting a QB to groom because his contract runs out in 2013 I believe.  Speaking of which,  if you look at what Romo is getting paid compared to some of the other QB's, he is playing at a relatively cheap price.  I would let him play the rest of his contract out.

Gotta agree with Bee...time to start grooming a Q.B.,Always thought Romo has the heart..it's the height I wonder about....just look at the passes that got knocked down this year..I do think they will draft a Q.B.,Interesting to see who it will be!

Not to be argumentative axe.....but...

----

I'm not saying these guys are as great as those listed, but Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Laurant Robinson, Miles Austin, DeMarco Murray...I know some were injured, but he lost with them as well.  I'll give you this...no arguement on defense.....and White had Mr. Tom Landry, Romo has Garrett....LOL

Right -- because THOSE guys have won division titles and playoff games, right?
--------

You want to talk about supporting casts?  Romo should have rings compared to what those guys had....

Colt McCoy...??? Are you serious? Even the Browns' brass isn't sold on him as a starter. If you're not good enough to start for the Browns, you should be looking for another occupation.
------------

You mentioned the Browns' brass....I rest my case....LOL.  Tom Brady couldn't win in Cleveland with that team.....the Longhorns played a (close to) pro-style with Colt...not a lot of option running and he led them to a NC game.  He doesn't have much to work with in Cleveland, give him a Witten, Bryant, Austin and Robinson....he'd be just fine.

Sorry but I guess I'm just venting....and Romo gets no excuses from me....

I'm not saying Romo has no talent to work with, but let's not put Miles Austin and Dez Bryant up there with Drew Pearson and Tony Hill just yet, shall we? Ditto DeMarco Murray and Tony Dorsett. Witten? No question -- a stud and very possible future Hall of Famer.

And to get back to Dez -- dude's gotta take the next step. I love his potential, but we're two years in now and he hasn't busted it yet. Had a couple rookies this year (AJ Green, Julio Jones) who out-performed Dez...and Green was working with a rookie QB while Jones missed three games.

You want to talk about supporting casts?  Romo should have rings compared to what those guys had....

--------

Rings, plural...? Are you serious? The only team we had in Romo's tenure that should have (could have) made a Super Bowl run was the 2007 team...and that was a team that got clocked by the Patriots

The 2006 team was nowhere near good enough; the 2009 was team was pretty damn good, but would have had to have won two road playoff games to do it. Not impossible, but to say Romo should have won a title that year is a disingenuous.

You mentioned the Browns' brass....I rest my case....LOL.  Tom Brady couldn't win in Cleveland with that team

-------

Uh-huh...and McCoy is SO over-matched that Cleveland can't wait to find his replacement.

Look, if you want to see if McCoy shakes loose from the Cleveland tree and we can sign him as a free agent, fine. But you don't trade Romo and annoint McCoy as the starter.

Romo hasn't had even a sniff of a defense that Danny White or any other QB on this team has had. everyone keeps blaming Romo for these failures, when the defense is a huge let down every single year. Romo threw 31TDs vs only 10 ints for 4100yardsand a QB rating of 102.5! he doesn't play defense.

Colt McCoy sucks. You can't be serious that you would rather have that guy over Romo.

31 passing versus 5 rushing TDs this year?  Did I read that right?  If there is a problem on offense, there it is.

And McCoy is a bottomfeeder.  Now Graham Harrell on the other hand.....  :P

I think we can win with Tony Romo, but i don't think we can win until we get some good coaching.  maybe JG will be that guy but im not sold.  I still keep going back to that Cardinals game this year BEFORE   Red iced his own kicker.  It was a very close game throughout with a light mist.  Not ideal passing conditions and the Cowboys had a hot RB in DeMarco Murray WHO CARRIED THE BALL 12 TIMES.

Relax guys....I'm just sayin Colt may have been a good draft pick in round three to sit behind Romo and who knows from there.

As for McCoy "sucks"....the leading RB for the Browns was Peyton Hillis with 587 yards....as a team they had 1,531 yards!  Leading TD's was Joshua Cribbs with 5.  The Browns probably send one guy to the probowl if there's a rule to elect at least one player.  Pat Shurmur is the head coach...didn't know that, thanks google.  Shurmur was the Rams offensive coordinator, that must have been a costly hire right there...LOL.

Place Romo in Cleveland and McCoy in Dallas...objectively...who would have the better year?  Cleveland hasn't been relevant since Elway crushed their dreams decades ago....

I gave Romo a "bye" for the first couple of years even though he had an awesome team in 2007....McCoy has a year and a half...with a turible team as Sir Charles would say...let's judge him in a year or two if Cleveland ever sign a credible offensive threat.

As for Romo's outstanding stats....I don't play fantasy football so the final outcome is as good as McCoy...both are on the couch watching.....

Yes stats are not everything, but they do point out the job the QB is doing. If Romo was throwing as many picks as TDs and only getting 3000yards passing, then I would agree that he is part of the problem. You Romo haters just nick pick every mistake he makes without objectively looking at the real problem, OUR DEFENSE SUCKS!!!!!!  If the Defnese was shutting down teams as well as our offense puts up points, we would have a first round bye right now.

You put Romo in Cleveland and he would do better than mcCoy. You put McCoy here and he would not do what romo does.

As for Garrett as head coach, I'm not sold yet either, but he does have a winning record after his 1st 24 games. Far to often we think that any "good" coach can come in and immediately turn a team around like harbaugh in San Fran. let's see what they do in the playoffs and next season. Sparano went to miami and was 11-5 his 1st year and everyone was whining that we let another "good" coach walk out of here. 4 years later and he doesn't have a job. These coaches are not given any chance anymore to really be successful. Garrett has made some obvious mistakes, but I still believe he can be a really good coach, but until this defense gets fixed you will be looking at 8-8 every year and you Romo haters can just keep blaming Romo.

You Romo haters just nick pick every mistake he makes without objectively looking at the real problem, OUR DEFENSE SUCKS!!!!!!

Our defense didn't throw 3 INTs against Detroit did it?  Our defense actually turned it around against the Giants and allowed Romo to make the comeback only to toss another INT.  Granted, I agree, our defensive secondary...heck anyone not named DeMarcus Ware or Sean Lee...stinks.   Because I've become critical of Romo, I'm now a hater?  LOL, I've got the dude's jersey hanging in my closet next to all the others I've accumulated over 30 some years.  Next year I'm going to become a statistician for one thing....to count the amount of times Romo yells "kill" and then break down a successful vs. unsuccessful audible.  Ol' Red needs to simplify things if he wants Romo to QB as well....it takes too long to break down every play in the huddle, and Romo is screaming for the ball with 1-2 seconds on the play clock almost every play (except when they are up by 3 scores and should be running the clock...LOL).  Do I hate Romo?  NO   Have I lost any faith in his ability to "LEAD" this team to the top...YEP!

I'm through complaingin about Garrett though (or I should be, as should all of us IMO).   For that matter, Rob Ryan shouldn't be grilled either.  They are playing with guys Jerry Jones drafts and trades for.  The lack of talent in the secondary isn't Ryan's fault...Elam is the only guy he had input on and he did fairly good...better than most of Jerry's guys.  Sure Jerry has picked a few good ones, but we all know he can't pick 'em like Jimmy.  Our GM is holding us back...cough-cough um, Jerry....

You put Romo in Cleveland and he would do better than mcCoy.
You're right, Romo should do better as has 5+ years...come on man...seriously?  You think any QB in the league would make any difference in Cleveland?  They are about 20 drafts away from ever competing...talk to me fantasy football people, who ya got from Cleveland that did anything for ya???

You put McCoy here and he would not do what romo does.

Right again....he probably doesn't overthink things and yell "KILL KILL" every play.  LOL

It's all good though...and my one and only wish is for Romo to do seomthing to make me eat crow...I had it in the oven in November but then in came December and the pilot light went out in the oven!   I just wanna win dangit!   GO Cowboys in 2012!!!!

Unreal post!

Unreal logic!

Unreal idiocracy!

IMO, Tony Romo had his BEST year, and I'm not just talking about his stats... The offense was plagued with constant shifts on the offensive line due to injuries and lackluster performance, Romo had to fight through the rib injury, our running game was inconsistent, and our wide receiving corps was plagued with injuries, yet Romo still put up Top 5 numbers!  He had his best season with the worst group of talent he's ever been surrounded with!  Without Romo, we would've been a 2-14 / 3-13 team this year.

Romo haters will always find excuses to hate...  I've noticed that no matter how amazing he plays (!st Giants game comes to mind), the haters only remember the plays he MISSED (Miles Austin "Lost in Lights" play).  The criticism has become quite redundant, and unrealistic.  Quincy Carter???  Chad Hutchinson???  Anthony Wright???  Are you f***ing serious???  Dude, turn in your STAR, you don't deserve it!

Thanks for your input, and I know he put up great numbers this year.  I'm just pizzed about the losses like the Jets and Lions in particular.  As for turning in "my" star...coming form a screen name honoring Drew Brees(?), I've had this star for nearly 40 years and I'll keep it for another 40 good Lord permitting thank you very much.

As for turning in "my" star...coming form a screen name honoring Drew Brees
Many people have questioned my screen name, and legitimately so...  I've explained it a thousand times, but I'll explain once more...  I worked at a radio station and needed an "on-air personality" name...  A group of us sat around trying to come up with a catchy name that fans would remember... At the time (2003), Drew Brees was a scrub, and appeared to be regulated to becoming a career back-up!  My middle name is Andrew (most of my family and friends call me Drew), and DruBreez was born...  Its on my license tag and it irks the shyt**** outta me at times because most people who see it obviously think that I'm a Saints fan!  I've had Saints fans pull up beside me on the highway screaming "Who Dat"!

Please shoot me in the head now!  ;)
