Team help for a new fantasy basketball owner

January 5, 2012 12:25 pm

Looking for a few opinions on my team.  This is my first year playing fb so any and all suggestions for upgrades or weaknesses on my team are welcomed.  I play in a H2H, 12 team, 9 cat league with the following roster:

PG: D. Collison
SG: A. Iguodala
G: J. Jack
SF: C. Anthony
PF: H. Turkoglu
F: T. Prince
C: A. Jefferson
C: M Gortat
Util: B. Diaw
Util: C. Frye
BN: Landry Fields
BN: Manu Ginobli*
BN: Gary Neal

Obviously Ginoblis injury hurt me, and I struggled with picking up Neal or Jefferson (who is still available and I may pickup).  I had the 12th pick so I was trying to pick best overall and look to try to win FT and FG% as well as not kill my 3 point shots.  Any and all opinions welcome.

I think your team is pretty good and you did well to pick up Jarret Jack and Boris Diaw late.  Those two guys will help you get through Manu's injury.

You don't have any glaring weaknesses, but could probably do better in blocks, steals and points.  It is hard to win consistently when your approach depends on winning percentage categories.  They are often the most difficult to rely on on a week to week basis.   You need to make sure you can compete in poor shooting weeks.

cut loose.  Tayshaun Prince is no good at this point in his career.  He doesn't make enough threes, score enough points or get enough blocks and streals to help your team.  He is below league average in every category but FT%.  You woul do much better to employ a specialist in 1 or 2 cats.  Similarly, Landry Fields time as a fantasy relevant player is nearing close.  He is already losing minutes and is on the verge of losing his starting spot to Iman Sumpert.

If Shumpert is still there, grab him now.  Otherwise look to add a hot free agent or a stuggling player who has been dropped.   Fields and Prince belong on the wire.

Team help for a new fantasy basketball owner

January 9, 2012 11:55 am

Looking for some week 3 fantasy advice myself. I have two open spots this week and 3 players to possibly fill them. Out of Thad Young, Elton Brand, and Al Harrington, which two should I start? I'm leaning towards Harrington & Young. My headache is the fact that the Sixers play 5 games this week. Will Brand outscore Harrington since he has 1 more game this week? I'm thinking that Brand's minutes will be limited this week because of the amount of games. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Trade prince for a Batum, or James Johnson, Gordon Hayward, someone else, I would also look at other option for Diaw, he is overvalued.
