"This has been a blessing to be invited to play in such a great event," Bolden said. "Once I got the call I checked with Michigan to see if it was alright to play, because I am enrolling early. When they said I could, I wasted no time accepting the invitation."
"These players are the best of the best, not taking anything away from my high school competition," he added. "Being around the best players in the country forces you to step up, or you will get embarrassed. For me, I'm always going to be aggressive and I'm going to go out there and play football the way I've been taught."
Bolden, 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, committed to Michigan last spring, and he has never looked back on that decision.
"Michigan was clearly the best school for me, and I'm thrilled with my decision," he stressed. "I'm going there early to get bigger, faster and stronger, so I can get on the field as soon as I can. I don't want to take a year off. Trust me, I'm going to go in there and work as hard as I can every day, and see where it gets me."
"Michigan came down to academics and coaching for me, and I feel we have the best combination of both worlds," he continued. "We have a great class coming in, and I will sell this program to everyone I meet at events like this. I have no clue what the depth chart looks like at Michigan for next year, and I don't care. I'm going there to play football, and if players are better than I am, they deserve to play."
Smith, 5-foot-11, 210-pounds, rushed for nearly 2,000 yards as a junior in leading Howland into the Ohio State playoffs. He has been a productive back since playing as a freshman, and has landed his first offer.
"I was offered by Michiganand I couldn't be more excited," Smith. "When I actually spoke to Coach (Greg) Mattison on the phone and he told me I had the offer, I was in disbelief. He said they loved my film and they really wanted me at Michigan."
"I'm so happy to get my first offer and it's a relief to know that such a great school thinks that much of me," he added. "This is so great for me because I grew up a Michigan fan, so this means even that much more to me. I grew up watching them every week, so to have Michigan be the first to offer me is unbelievable."
Because his team was eliminated in the first round of the Ohio state playoffs, Smith was able to take one unofficial late in the year. Ironically, he was in Ann Arbor to watch the Wolverines defeat Ohio State.
"I was there for the Ohio State game and it was awesome," he explained. "It's definitely my favorite program. I've been online watching their runningback drills, and I know a lot about how they do things. I would have to talk to my coach and my family about picking a school, and it's way too early to be thinking about committing right now."
Michigan is not the only program interested in Smith, and he received his first junior day invite this week.
"Aside from Michigan, I've been hearing from Ohio State and they've been to my high school," he said. "I don't have any plans to take any unofficial visits coming up, but I probably will after the holidays are over. I've heard from a lot of schools and Michigan Statejust invited me up for a junior day at their school. I'm definitely interested in getting out and see other schools."
