This is where Jerry Jones would really be showing he wanted to win if he inked the deal with Laurent Robinson and kept him on board.  Arguably this is the person who could have earned that 45 million wasted on Roy E. Williams and (once again) this is where not keeping Terrell Owens cost us in the end.

Terrell Owens wouldn't have cost 45 million, we could have let him go and kept a lot of cap space of which we could be using right now a lot easier with this prediciment.  But now this is where Jerry proves he wants to win next season,  if you want to win you have to spend,...but spend on the right person.

I agree but I have to wonder about one thing...is Jerry reading this and wondering who Laurent Robinson is?  LMAO!

Even though you detest the starting QB, Laurent and him definately have a solid chemistry going between them. Something he was never able to develop with Roy Williams. Whereas these two hit it off from day one. They will find a way to keep the new #81 around for a while I suspect.

We'll see,

Obviously looking forward that salary cap will have a lot to say about signing him.

Not going to happen if this guy wants the kinda of money he can get.  Jerry will have too much tied up in the WR position.  Jerry likes his toys.  Miles overpaid.  A first round pick in Bryant whose rookie contract will be over soon.  Jerry can not and should not overspend with all the other holes this team has.  Better for Jerry to spend the money elsewhere.  He still has dead money from his prior bonehead moves and is about to have more deadmoney from the Tnew extension once he gets cut.

A 3rd receiver with Jason Witten in the mix does not make sense.  The problem is that Robinson may be more reliable than Austin.

My problem is that this is Robinson's fourth team in 5 years.  Is he a late bloomer?  One hit wonder?  Proceed with caution.  One thing is for certain.  He's been injury prone.  I'd hate to overpay another receiver....like Miles.

I dunno man as bad as I hate to admit it Roy Willams was a bust.  Laurent Robinson was a bright spot this year but to ink him to a big deal to me is a bad deal. Will he turn out like Roy Williams and now Miles Austin?  Seems like any one who recieves a big pay day with the Cowboys 99% of the time turn out to be average ot below.

andresrenee,

He is more reliable and a better all around threat.  Maybe now you see why I haven't liked him and challanged the idea that he should have been given that contract merely because he was the only choice left to get the title of No.1 WR.  As I said, if he had to wait until TO left to shine that didn't say much about the idea that he was some diamond in the rought.

And look at his performance immediately since then.   The very next season he's pulling offensive PA's, false starts,.....remember when we played I think it was Chicago last season?  Remember when Roy E. Williams caught that TD pass,....and Miles Austin leap frogs him in the endzone drawing the unsportsman like which later led to a long kick return which then turned into the points that lost us the game?   Did you happen to notice Miles Austin never did those things while he was trying to get the contract?  Have you noticed since then that his performance just like Jason Wittens, and just like Marion Barber's dropped off everytime after they got their contracts and their bonus money?  You go back and look at when Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Marion Barber, and Miles Austin get paid.

Look at their production the year before the contract and then look at how they flat line or fall off altogether right after.  And look at how they don't yield a playoff win before or after.   That has been a telling truth about these guys since Tony Romo and company have taken the field.  They've showed good enough to be called a competative team ONE TIME since they've been together, and even then they didn't close the deal.  Yet Jerry has paid them, without demanding from them the one thing they're supposed to bring to the table,.....PLAYOFF WINS.

Look long story short, people need to stop being hung up on a few "flash in the pan" plays during the season and understand that NONE of this group has put out when it was time to.   If you go back to when we beat the Eagles, you can call it a post season win all you want but the truth is that Eagles team was nowhere near the one we couldn't manage to beat earlier on in the decade when they were gonig to the playoffs so they really don't count as some huge accomplishment when you take into account they were lame and were going to get beat by whoever they played.  It just happened to be good timing that we backed into a spot and played them is all that happened.  But when you look at our team, odds our had we played anybody else we would've lost.

To fconers point,

Roy E. Williams was a bust before he got here.  Did you happen to look at his stats in Detroit.  What idea Jerry had that somehow bringing him in here would help the team is beyond me.  When you look at his career, nothing about it said he was worth 45 million which BTW is still costing us in cap space until this coming season,..........you know that right?

Laurent Robinson is not a bust, and he won't be.  He was one among many of the Chargers top end recievers remember,..they didn't have enough space to keep him and VJ and Gates and the other guy whose name escapes me.

Clearly (once again I hate to keep going back to it but you guys need to realize how big a mistake it was and maybe you see it now), it would have been better to keep TO and then shelf him about two years later as you see versus taking on the cap debt and lack of production we got from Roy E. Williams. I tried to tell you.  He cost less, he was still a threat as an iconic player which meant he would command attention just on his name and that alone as you saw helped our offense out immeasurably when he was in better form as it made it hard to stop our offense in 07.  The difference between the offense in 07' and the offense in 09' was simple,.......no TO and a subpar team in the playoffs that happened to be worse than us,.........in 07' no one could figure out how to beat us merely because of TO's presence,...every year after he left the passing game stunk up the joint with Roy E. Williams on the field.

At any rate keeping TO would have meant a whole lot more cap space, because he couldn't command the money that Jerry gave to RW,...age and production didn't permit it.  But he did still possess more ability within the offense to be a better threat experiance wise until we got Dez Bryant.  At least that way if things ended up the same with our current scenario, the decision to carry three top end recievers would be a lot easier, and so would acquiring better experianced players who can get it done.

Once again Jerry is getting what he paid for.  He likes stats, ya'll like stats,.....that's what you're getting,.....what you can't get from these guys is step up ability.  Great at making stats, pitiful at getting in or winning playoffs.  And be careful because before you know it your favorites will be gone.  They're already getting long in the tooth, and in the next season or two (probably starting this season with Jason Witten) you're gonna find a lot of your favorites are burning out and will need replacing,......the sad thing is they'll have done not much better than the 80's team I believe,............

Finally,

I've been right so far on your favorites so get ready.  Your favorites are quickly being replaced.  Marion Barber's gone, Felix Jones probably will stay I don't know what his contract status is at this moment.  You've already seen that Miles Austin is actually mediocre because he was out paced by Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson even with injuries.  I doubt if he gets a contract extension, but my feeling is he'll be left in the dust production wise because it's just not making sense to use him anywhere other than in the redzone now days.  And if we get hold to a better reciever oriented TE who works out better than Bennett faster, Wittens days will be number also, and we will be shopping one as you know because Bennett has likely worn out his welcome.

I prediction is in the next two years (2014), Romo might be the last man standing offensively from the group and he'll fade away after that season.  He owed a deep playoff run,...again he didn't deliver,.....Jerry's just waiting for it to make sense cap wise and your favorites are gone.  For right now they're the ones killing the cap space because they're not getting it done when they're supposed to.

Tim Tebow has proven that "yes you can do it all by yourself"   You know that because he's in the playoffs with his first show and win and Tony Romo is out at 1-2.  He willed the Bronco's to those wins and did most of it himself,.......when there was little talent around him so Oline78 both those excuses about he can't do it by himself and we need more talent have no point in fact because Tim Tebow did it with both factors in play.

I'll be pleasantly shocked if we get rid of all the people we already know they should get rid of in the secondary.  Why we got Elam back was obvious,......no cap space,........why,.........cap space killer/s.  They really only got rid of one because the other three are fan favorites who get people like you to come to the games,.....so the low man on that totem pole got whacked,....who didn't see Roy E. Williams getting whacked coming a mile away?  He could do the same with Witten or Miles Austin if he really wanted to, the difference is they're faking hero status so he won't do it.

Trust me if he could kill the cap space for three years letting RW go he could do the same with anybody he wants.  He just won't.  The Chargers did it with Ryan Leaf remember.  it cost them 12 million to get rid of him,.....a first round bust at that.  it can be done, but because your fan favorites have duped you and you buy tickets to see them do nothing in December they get to stay,.......for now.

Becareful though, word on the community board is a lot of fans won't be going to the games next season.  Word on that board is until Romo leaves a lot of people will be catching the game on TV,......when it starts hitting Jerry in his pocket and he can't fill that stadium enough in the off season your "hero trio" is outty.  Enjoy it while it last,.......I'm just keepin it real.

I'll just hit that if ya get rid of your nemesis Romo there's really no reason to keep Laurent Robinson. Point being the connection those two have on the field which I'd say is without question.

I have to feel better about next year in terms of players.  (How many times have I said, " the next year will be "the year"?) If we can retain Robinson, he along with Murray, with the regulars should be a pretty leathal force.  The line would have a year under their belt together so that is promising if they do as they do and not address the Oline until the 3rd round or later.  Eventhough Houck is gone, I'm hoping a new OC or fresh air will help the Oline.

I thought the goal was to have a run stopper and that players has to be able to play the pass and Spencer is not that.  This was the year he was to break out in Ryan's system (vocally Ryan stated that Spencer would kill the Redskins but he was contained and burned in that game - so another Ryan mouth shout that he ate chit). Didn't notice a gradual improvement either.  If I saw that then I could chalk up his play to learning Ryan's defense.  Nope.  He is a great run stopper and that is half of what the Cowboys really need.  I hope to see more of Butler.  Is it me or does it seem when Butler saw playing time, he made something happen.  So what gives?

I expect defensive change so if there is then it should be for the better of the team.

I hope they can get a deal done with Robinson.

If they sign Robinson, they better focus on the OL in the draft and FA.  If you can't build a decent defense, might as well have an awesome offense.
