UNC vs. FSU Game Thread

North Carolina (15-2, 2-0 ACC) will play its first Atlantic Coast Conference road game of the season and its first overall in 42 days when it plays at Florida State (10-6, 1-1 ACC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.  ESPN will televise the game nationally.  Dan Shulman (play-by-play) and Dick Vitale (analyst) will have the call.

ESPN'S College GameDay show will originate from Tallahassee prior to Saturday's UNC-FSU game.  Saturday marks the season premiere of the popular pregame show, which travels each week to originate from the site of one of the day's big games nationally.  This week's show will air from 10 a.m. to noon on ESPN2.

Carolina opened ACC play with home wins over Boston College last Saturday and Miami on Tuesday night.  The Tar Heels have won 18 of their last 21 ACC games, closing 2009-10 by winning two of three conference contests, going 14-2 in 2010-11 and starting this season 2-0.

Florida State enters Saturday's game with a record of 10-6 overall and is 1-1 in the ACC.  The Seminoles lost at Clemson last Saturday and won at Virginia Tech on Tuesday night.

This game SHOULD be a win for UNC, and it should be by double figures.  However, FSU usually plays the Heels tight, especially in Tallahassee.  I'm looking for a big game out of Barnes after his poor shooting performance last game.  Hopefully, our 3pt shooters can get back on track in this one as well.

How do you guys think UNC will react to being on the road after such a long home stand. Do you think it will be a problem or will give them the fire they need to play with a little more emotion while in a hostile environment?

Strickland and Hubert are both questionable for tomorrow's game after spraining their ankles during yesterday's off day... how two players sprain their ankles on the same off day is beyond me, but hopefully they can suit up.

I think it will be a nice shock to the roster to head on the road for the first time in over a month. They handled Rupp well until things got away in the second half, so it'll be good to see if that resolve is still there with this team tomorrow.  I think the boys will get up for the game and turn in a strong performance - and you know that Florida State is going to be looking to turn its season around with a signature win against a Top 5 team, so the boys better be ready.

I expect a dog fight by virtue fsu has played us tough the past 3-4 years and it's at fsu which has been a trap to rank teams. Fsu isn't playing the best but they play up for us and we have to be real careful. I don't know of anyone else watched the duke ve UVA game but the wahoos had every bit of a chance to win that game and duke was in a fight for the whole game. Trust me the acc is weak but other coaches will use that to their advantage esp resume wise come march time. What will decide this game is free throws 3pt game and turnovers . Lebron was right about one thing when the media puts that bullseye on your back you will get everybodys best shot same goes for unc in the acc. And for the record UVA looks good can't sleep on them this year

Definitely don't like hearing about Dex spraining an ankle, but at least its not against a team that the Heels absolutely need him for; (ie shutting down an elite guard). Hopefully he'll be fine to go tomorrow and he can contribute to FSU turning the ball over 20 times. As long as the Heels don't shoot terrible from the field or turn it over like crazy I think they'll lead by 8 - 15 most of the game. I'm not expecting a complete smackdown because it'll be on the road and the Tucker Center can be a hostile place, but they're much more talented and offensively skilled than FSU. 

FSU doesn't shoot the ball all that well, or pass it all that well so their only shot will be offensive rebounds and easy transition buckets. They also turn it over 18 times a game which could spell trouble against such a great fast break team like the Heels. Looking Barnes to have a bounce back game and for our bench shooters to hit some 3's since FSU is so stingy in the paint.

Well guys and Tarheelgirl it's back to the road again but its been a while. I will be interested in seeing how our guys handle the crowd tomorrow especially if we get down early. We did good at Rupp so hopefully our guys will be ready for the atmosphere at Florida State. As Crystal said I also expect a big game from Barnes coming off his 6 point effort Tueseday. I expect him to drop 20 tomorrow and be in full attack mode all game long. I think this one could be fairly close for the majority of the game but we will eventually pull away and win by 17. We just have to much talent for FSU to compete with us for 40 minutes.

On a side note McDonald will red-shirt this year which I believe will greatly benefit him and will help the team in the long run. With two more years if McDonald comes back fully healthy he could be one of the best guards in college basketball in my opinion. This year we just have so manny guards there is limited playing time available so I think McDonald made the right decision. Go Heels !!!!!!!!

Considering McAdoo was "doubtful" the last 2 games and played in both, I fully expect Dex will be ready to go against FSU, since he is only "questionable".   Bullock and Hairston can log some more minutes, and if UNC can get up big early, maybe we can use White a little.

Feel sorry for McDonald, but it really is in his best interest to sit out and come back in full next year with 2 years of eligibility.

Dex practiced yesterday, so I am sure he will play...may not start, but he will play.  It might be good to get Bullock and Hairston some time in this game anyway to lossen up the defense a bit.

This game always scares me.  We have laid our fair share of eggs down there and had it not been for a last minute shot by Barnes, we would have lost the game last year.  If we can control the tempo, we roll.  If FSU controls the tempo, we better shoot well.  FSU is physical underneath, so that is going to create problems for Zeller and Henson.

Anxious to see the team on the road against an ACC opponent.  As noted earlier FSU always plays us tough and their defense will test our discipline.
If we can make a few three's early it should loosen things up for the bigs.  If our assists outnumber the t/overs I think we win. 

Just got home from the office and settled in to watch our Tar Heels, whats with the to's so far. Come on heels. Hope everyone is having a great day. Lets Go Tar Heels.

Tarheels can't defend 3!! 

Man, first half and UNC was sleep walking.  Terrible defense on the perimeter, too many turnovers, Henson missing ALL his free throws. What is going on?  Maybe the team was a little over-confident for this one.  Hopefully they show up for the second half.

I'm really surprised how much a little pressure on defense by FSU made Marshall look condused.  

This was one of the worst halfs of the season.  Lucky there is another half to go so UNC can still recover.  Hopefully UNC comes back and we can chalk this up as a learning experience, without a loss.   

They better do something and do it fast, with a turnover would be nice. Come on Tar Heels

Sickening display of basketball right now.....down 26 to FSU?......Worst effort and execution since the Larry Drew days....Games like this is why people say Roy is an excellent recruiter but an average coach.....this is disgusting.....!!!!!

Gentlemen - we're not going to win this game.  Mo has been hiding in Fla.  We are just playing in slow motion.  It looks like Z is the only one playing hard.  It's almost like we forgot how to play.

I put this on ROY......as much credit as he gets for being a HOF coach, he equally deserves the blame for not getting these guys mentally ready to play.....Still waiting for a coahcing move by OLE ROY besides subbing guys in and out.......horrible.
