Home Field, Schmome Field

I feared the Packers would be rusty and it showed.  Coupled that with the amped up D that the Giants have been playing the last month, and the final score should not suprise anyone.

To hell with the "bye" week.  Too much time to overthink schemes and no real hitting.  I would take my chances having this team play every week than give them a 2 week vacation.

Well 3 out of the 4 teams with the week off advanced so I am not sure the math would match your argument. Bottom line is this team just really isn't built for the cold weather. I don't understand how this defense goes from one of the best in the NFL if not they best to the worst unit in 1 season. It has to be more then just Cullen Jenkins? The question is who pays for this, because quite frankly I think someone deserves to be fired!

Yeah, I mean how many of the teams that had a bye moved on? what was it like 3 out of 4 or something awfull like that.

It wasn't the bye the killed the Packers it was the Giants.  You will all be rooting for it next season if the Packers are inthe same position and you know it.

I've always wondered why a bye in the regular season is a welcome respite but one inthe playoffs is supposed to be bad.

It was a lot more than the defense tonight. The offense stunk up Lambeau Field tonight. Dropped passes..fumbles..Rodgers was not on his game at all.

An overall Team effort on the stink job.

The difference between Rodgers' teams and Favre's teams is that Favre loved playing in bad/cold weather whereas Rodgers runs a finesse offense that prefers playing indoors on artificial turf.

As for the bye hurting, this was just a case of a team peaking too early.  The Packers had the division wrapped up by Thanksgiving, so they naturally had little incentive to get better down the stretch.  It's hard to coast for a month and then kick the engine back in gear.  The Giants, meanwhile, have essentially been playing playoff football for nearly a month now.

This sort of thing happens in baseball all the time when one team has their division sewn up by the all star break.  Remember all those Indians teams of the 90s?  There were undoubtedly 2 or 3 seasons where they WERE the best team in MLB, but because they had nothing to play for in August and September, they ended up choking in the playoffs every time.

It happens.

No team in their right mind would rather play on the road than at home and no team is better off going on the road, the stats will bear that out beyond any scope of discussion, but being at home with all of its advantages doesn't prevent individual football players from making mistakes.

As far as having a bye and being "rusty" or whatever, that isn't an excuse either, that extra week of preparation is an advantage, and in the Packers case it helped out with getting some guys healthy.

They just plain played like crapolage, it didn't matter if they were playing at home or playing on the moon or they played a game yesterday or 100 years ago, they played like crap.

The circumstances didn't make them fumble or drop passes or miss tackles, they did.  No excuses.

Exactly, plus like some Packer posters said already three out of 4 teams with a bye won their games so the bye is not a good excuse.  The giants were ready to play and since that Jets game, the defense have been playing lights out football.  Congrats packers on a great season but it looks like you guys ran into a buzzsaw and a better team today. We'll see you guys next year.

P.S.- Rodgers to me wasn't as off as you guys may think. Rodger's receivers let him down big time with a lot of drops today and to me the biggest key in this game was taking Nelson out of the game.  Everytime Rodgers went back on the play action, it looks like he was looking for Nelson for a big play bomb but the Giants defense were ready and prepared for it.  Rodgers is still a beast though and is still the best qb in this game. See ya next year!!

Maybe Rodgers doesn't like the weather idk but from what I seen Rodgers is a momentum qb and gets hot but when your having all these drops and fumbles momentem got stopped so easily

I hope people finally realize Aaron Rodgers and that offense is not built for cold weather games. He played poorly in last years Bears game at lambeau and he didn't play that well in the NFC championship last year. A Cowboys fan about a month ago made a thread asking if packer fans were concerned with our offense in cold weather..i along with a few others expressed our concern and tonite was proven why we had that concern..the offense was pathetic tonight.

How wonderful, all year ive never seen such cocky arrogant fans in my life. It was as if gb won 5 straight superbowls. I watched the Giants not only destroy the Packers but destroy the packers and the refs. How embarassing and they shoulda won by more. So before you gb fans assume that you guys have the sb in your hands allready, how bout you just hope your not 1 year flukes and actualy win some more before you think your the greatest team ever assembled. Ive heard crap all year from you guys and couldnt say anything back cause honestly what could i say, so........win more rings then be overconfident

Home field and bye weeks are just smoke in explaining this loss.  On another post a Giants fan (Jacobs27NYG) wrote:
How about you worry about that defense that's ranked dead last and a crappy running game instead of making pathetic excuses...

Let's face it, there is no rust on a defense that hasn't stopped anything all year long.  Okay, there was some rust on the defensive scheme that covers the Hail Mary - com'n man.  And let's face it, when your leading rushing threat is Aaron Rodgers then you have trouble.  The Giants have a very good pass rush and they collapsed the pocket all day long.  The Giants simply took our receivers out of the game and that was the offense.  If Aaron Rodgers throwing from a phone booth, trying to squeeze balls to guys that are covered is called rust then - yes - we were rusty.

The Giants are a very good football team that prepared and played us well.  They took away our primary strength and attacked us on our defensive weakness.  A couple of big plays earlier may have changed the tide but even the refs couldn't help on that front.

Bad loss for the Packers - Great win for the Giants - very few excuses.
