How do you rate others post?

January 16, 2012 2:04 pm

Having been on here a number of years now... I find it comical how I bounce up and down in ratings...

Occassionally, I will have someone really disagree with me and troll me for a while rating everything I do poorly... which is even more entertaining that people would waste their own time doing that.

So that made me think... how do you score others?

1. Do you score people based on the quality of their content, regardless if you agree or not?

2. Or, do you score people based on whether you agree with what they posted or not?

I rate people based on quality of post.  For every 10 post on these boards, you may get 3-4 really high quality well thought out post.  And that is what draws me to these boards... so I always score based on quality.  Without an oposing view, or a different perspective, this site wouldn't be as engaging for me personaly.

I also try not to engage in hate or trolling on here.. and most of my post contain well thought out logic and supporting facts that I TRY not to spin too much (although everyone does it to some extent).

Even posters like Smiles, BoiseMike, Moonglum, etc.. get 5 stars on most post, because even if I don't always agree, they always bring a strong argument, supporting facts (or really compelling opinions), and  don't get too caught into hate.

I agree with giving those 3 generally favorable reviews, MicahTurner however, his posts tend to be about as good as whats found on a terrible towl. Which, in my household, is used as luxury toilet paper, truly making for a terrible towl.

As far as how I rate people, if they make a well thought out post that doesn't make irrational assumptions about myself or attack my views without something to back it up besides conjecture, then if I rate it, I'll give it a 5.  If someone's post makes me laugh, I tend to give it a 5.  If someone's post attacks me and sounds completely ignorant, I'll give it a 1 (ie: yesterday someone telling me they're superior to me and I'm going to have a bad afterlife because I don't buy into Christianity - without knowing whether or not I follow any other religions).  But, for the most part, I think I tend to avoid giving stars.

Quality of post whether I agree or not, though it sure is easier if they agree with me.  lol

When I do rate posts, I only give 5 stars.  though sometimes I accidently hit 4 stars on my phone.  Hard to always get the 5th star on the touch screen.

I tend to rate the posts I find the most logical or humorous.   Rarely does a post satisfy both requirements.

I also hardly ever rate something below 5 stars.   I either like it, or don't worry with it.

I've never attained a 99 on here.   I feel like something is missing from my life because of it.

I rate good posts 5 stars whether I agree with it or not. The only time I rate any other posts it is a one star, and that's the ones trying to get you to go to a dating site or something to that effect. I have noticed that they must have changed the rating system a few months ago though. The "value rating" on my profile used to be in the lower 90's. Now it's around the lower 40's. It seems like some of the "higher value" rated posters are the ones doing the in-game comments, so they must count for a lot more than simply posting on the message board.

This happens to me also on the phone and on the ipad.  Does this actually hurt the poster if it occurs?  If so I will stop rating from mobile devices but I like to rate when I see them otherwise I will forget.

I have no idea how the rating system works, nor do I care.   I have no idea how I'm rated top 1K.  As long as I can post (and occasionally create threads) they could rate/rank/label me pivot man for all I care.

How do you determine the "quality" of a poster's content?

I am curious as to what other posters consider "quality" content.

I never understood why they took away our ability to see how many stars we were rated.

I really don't care too much about it either, I just noticed it and was wondering why. I've seen some others complaining about it the past couple of months here and there.

I see what you mean, it's all relative to the person making the rating.

For me it's about generally being civil.  We all have differing opinions here.   Can you share/discuss/debate yours without resorting to insults or personal attacks?   Do you lack the ability to engage in meaningful discussion or are you a professional troll i.e. cassels/justa, etc.?

Admittedly, I have resorted to the juvenile at times.  No excuse for it, it just happens occasionally.

I rate post by their content whither I agree or not.It doesn't matter what team you talk about, yea or nay.If one makes me laugh it gets 5's.I do rate from 3 to 5.Iam not going to give anyone a 1 or 2.If content is that low you would have to saw something bad.I was always taught it you don't have anything good to say, better to say nothing.I don't anything that has hate in it,my God we are only on this earth for a short time.....too short to hate.I try to rate durning game threads, but I notice most folks don't.But that's ok,it's their business. One pet peave I have is if I rate you, please have the curtinsey to rate mine, bad or good.Laughing........RJ

I see you've been on here a while too.   I remember back in the 07-08 timeframe when people would create threads bashing CBS because their ratings/rankings went down.   Funniest thing to see people get so bent about this.  Even funnier because it was the recognized trolls crying about it not realizing they were responsible for the decline...  lol

With the exception of being able to create threads and post a personal avatar, I have no idea why even have the system.

I pretty much only do 5 stars.

Maybe I am a little more honest, but I tend to give the ratings based on posts that I agree on.  I generally think that my views are outside of the popular opinion so I tend to rate others who are simillar.

I will also rate posters high who seem to have more objectivity than the typical homer.  An example.  There have been some Alabama fans who do not believe that they should have played in the NCG based on everything that has happened in the past.  I am very impressed with those that can think above the fray and look at things more from a national perspective.

5 stars Rammer as always.

I have to confess there are days when I wish we could negatively rate a post like give it a negative 5 but I have to agree with Rammer I never give less than a 3 regardless.

If you make me laugh, then I'll give you a high rating.

If you disagree with me, but are civil and have solid points to your argument then I'll give you a high rating.

If you agree with me and add something to the conversation, then I will give you a high rating.

Btw this is my first post since LSU lost me money. I'm never picking Les Miles unless I want Less Money in my pocket. Tch this would have never happened if Bama weren't allowed to rematch in the NCG, but I digress. Good job Tide on winning your second Championship in three years.
