But,if this is the way it is going to come to pass, then they have lost me.Oh well, more time to hunt and do other things that are more importantCool.......RJ
RAting posts is an over-RAted aspect of a broken Rep system.  However, it still remains the part where a member's Rep is most vulnerable... difficult to raise, yet so easily dropped.

Anyway, attaining a 98 level, and keeping it, is very easy, beyond which only fantasy games will take you further and keep you there.  I once reached 99 level in 2011, only to have it taken away by a fellow poster, who rated a few of my posts low.  That's all it took, without the strength of a good Skills set.  Since then - and even before - I basically forgot about the whole Rep mess, knowing it to be such a waste of energy worrying about what I cannot control without doing something I'm not interested in (~Skills).
Rammer don't leave we can still have fun and that's what it is all about right?
So, RJ, I agree with Wild-Turkey.  Just stick around and "have fun" with your pals, which isn't hard at all, when not worrying about a broken system.

I guess I rate on a combination of the 2.  I lean towards quality, however.  I find that the CBS boards are better than most other sites that aren't specialized to just one sport.  Fox has too many posts from trolls selling crap.  And SI doesn't allow for comments after articles, just in their "community" section.  For the most part I try to open threads and participate depending upon the topic.  If the topic is team specific I sense that most comments will be strong pro- or strong anti- that team.  I come to try and learn from others that might know more about a sport.  The "SEC rules" v. "the polls are set up to favor the SEC" types of arguments I prefer to leave to others.  Right now I'm enjoying the debate raging about whether a plus-1 would be good for FBS football.

To be honest I don't spend much time scoring posts at all. But when I do, trolls get a low end talley & generally speaking, respectful & humorous posts go higher. No matter if I agree/disagree, I score em like I see em. Is that original or what?

I score on a few things:

First, I only give 5's when I score a post. So, it's either a 5 or I don't score it. I have only given something other than a 5 twice.
Next, if a post makes me laugh, that is an automatic 5. I don't care if a post agree's with my position or not. If it agree's with my position, but adds something to it (new info. or stated in a better way than I stated, etc.) then I will give it a 5. If it disagree's with my position, but makes me stop and re-consider my position, then I give it a 5.

How do you rate others post?

I haven"t posted anything or rated anything or been rated by anybody in weeks it seems. My value rank is unchanged. I miss the discussions here. I think the news that CBS was killing the rating system dried up interest, but as I guessed nothing has been done on that front. It strikes me as very odd that this thread is still in the top twenty or better, with hardly any posts in weeks.

Go State!!!

I usually only give out five stars.  I do a rare one star when someone is being unusually disrespectful for no reason.

How do you rate others post?

February 21, 2012 7:00 pm

1) Is the post a well articulated complete thought that makes a strong argument? (doesn't matter if it's something I agree with or not) 2) did it teach me anything?
3) does it appear to be just regurgitated ideas with no independent thinking?
4) is it trolling?
5) Did it make me laugh hard enough to let a little piss slip out?
6) Did the post do a better job of supporting a point I was trying to make with clearly illustrated, factual information?
7) Was the poster rude or disrespectful to another poster?

If it's any of the 1,2,5, or 6 criteria, they're automatically fived.  No questions asked.
If it's any of the 3, 4, 7 criteria, I've doled out some 1's for emphasis.  I kind of like the aspect where you can evaluate other posters.  Nothing I really take seriously though.
