Serena contues to dodge tournaments with different excuses. Play a full season already and prove you belong!Play a full season and prove you belong? You got it twisted...players like the ridiculous, so called #1 player in the world, Wozniaki with ZERO Grand Slam titles need to prove that they belong. In Singles and Doubles combined, Serena is a 13 time Grand Slam champion. She has nothing to prove to anybody. By the way, she is in business and acting and is continuing with her education, while still playing world class tennis. If you watched The Tennis Channel the other night, Jason Gimblestob (who was a mid level world class tennis player) stated that the tour players live for the Grand Slams. He could've minimized the importance of the Grand Slams considering he has never hoisted the Men's trophy, but he told it like it is.
Remember the days when tennis and boxing actually mattered! You have to go back to the 70's, 80's, maybe early 90's for that.
You have to go back to the 70's, 80's, maybe early 90's for that. Why didn't tennis matter in the decade of 00? Is it because the Williams Sisters dominated the landscape for American tennis and some of you folks can't accept this?
Hi Pimp!
I can tell that you don't read really well so I'll try to keep this simple: the poster that I was responding to said '0' American women players were relevant in the last 20 years. Just off the top of my head I responded with Lindsay Davenport---her record certainly says she was relevant. That's the truth and I'm sorry you aren't able to follow that.
As for Linsay, she and I both played out of the same club for about 10 years, and she and I know each other and I also know her former coach, Robert Van Hoff. At tournaments they would always stop by and say 'Hi'.
I first met Richard and Venus at the WTA tourney (Stanford) in Palo Alto, CA in, probably, 2001. I was having breakfast at a Denny's and who should be seated next to me but Richard and Venus Williams (they were staying across the street at the Hyatt, since torn down). I politely introduced myself, told them who I was and what I would be doing at the tourney. They were both very nice and I let it go at that. Later that day both Richard and Venus stopped by to say 'hello' and I thought that was nice of them.
Venus, to me, is rather demure and pleasent to speak with. Richard, IMO, gets a bad rap for some things that he may have said in the past. He's always been thoughtful and pleasant to speak with. I've had them stop by at dozens of tournaments. Serena, who Richard has brought around several times comes off to me as not so nice a person; very arrogant and she's not willing to 'converse'. JMO.
As for my 'credentials', I've been involved in tennis for over 35 years. Before I moved to California I ran one of the Western Open (now the Westen and Southern Open) programs for kids kids and families, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Once I got to California I played on a semi-pro circut and usually won a 'few bucks' each year for about ten years. I also ran a tennis club for 5 years and was a teaching pro for two years (which was my least favorite job in tennis). I've worked more than 60 ATP and WTA tournaments over the years as well as Davis Cup and Fed Cup. I'm also certified by the USTA to rate people for NTRP rankings.
BTW, since you know so much about tennis I would have thought that you knew that Monica Seles was born in Serbia and only won one of her nine grand slam titles as a citizen of the US.
So now the only thing you have to do is go kick yourself for being completely stupid.
