Well, KU gets a quick turnaround for their Big Monday nite game against Texas A&M. A&M beat Oklahoma 81-76 in overtime yesterday. The A&M guards Turner and Harris had 23 and 14, respectively. Forward David Loubeau also had 16 points.
From the look of the box score, Oklahoma was able to get a lot of scoring inside. The two OU forwards were able to shoot a high percentage, combining to go 16-24 from the floor for 35 points. Hopefully KU will be able to take advantage of the A&M defensive interior and get big night from T-Rob and Withey. Both will need to amp up their performances from an erratic game against Texas. KU guards will also need to clamp down on the A&M guards as they look to be their most reliable scoring options. Khris Middleton is a very talented forward for A&M but seems to really disappear at times. He is more of an outside shooter versus a post up forward, so We'll see what that does to our defense.
I am excited to see how Kansas responds after that Texas game.
I have a feeling we come out on fire again and get a quick lead and cruise to a 15 point win. I think A/M isn't the same team they were with Turg being the HC. They played defense better and won g ames by holding teams in he 50's and 60's. Now I think they play less D and more offense.
I might be wrong about quick start, but see us win by 15 or more in the end.
I wished Turg would have stayed, but understand that he knew T A/M was moving to the SEC and didn't want to coach in that league. He is doing fine at Maryland, but I don't see his team going to the Sweet Sixteen like his first season with A/M though.
My wish is that we don't lose to teams like Mizzou or Texas AM since they are taking there ball and going to mommys house after the season. Just like last year when we didn't lose to either Neb or Colo. Keep that going. We do not want Mizzou to win the basketball title in its last season as a member school. I repeat we do not want Mizzou to win the title in there last season as a Big 12 member! Imagine the motivation in that message when we play Mizzou both times, for Self to use in our locker room. Might b e like when we stomped on 'UNC in the final Four?
Conner Teahan honestly gives us nothing at all unless he is drilling three after three. He already has missed two very good looks, it is painful to watch him on the floor.
And can someone please step up offensively other than Tyshawn Taylor? Is this team starting to fall into the trap of watching a great player playing great and forgetting they have roles as well?
Bobby Knight: "And another thing, Kansas has tremendous depth."
Um, what?
And please for the love of all that is holy someone go tackle Elijah Johnson before he either fires up another NBA three pointer or throws a pass to the guy in the second row.
If EJ would have taken that shot I would have driven to Lawrence and tackled him myself. Nice feed to Withey, hoop and the fiul. Maybe they might be getting a clue after all.
Nice put back by Young and a great drive and dish from Releford but I seriously can't remember a basket where our post guy received the ball, made a move and scored.
This team is all Tyshawn Taylor, how odd is that to say? A few weeks ago many wondered, myself included if we weren't better with him on the sidelines.
A few weeks ago we WERE better with him on the bench, now it's Johnson. Sadly, that means either Teahan or Tharpe and neither are a good choice. Stick to passing and defense for awhile, EJ
Tyshawn is 4/4 from the field, the rest of the team is a sultry 7 of 24, wow that is jaw dropping.
Oh well, Taylor and Robinson played limited minutes in the first half and we are down 2. Let's face it, remove Taylor and Robinson and this squad would honestly struggle to make the NIT, we just do not have the depth to account for the loss of two starters, certainly not our difinitive best two starters.
I think all the poor shot attempts and lackadaisical defense will be change coming out of the half. First off they will have Taylor and TRob back in and also I'm sure Self isclose to blowing a gasket in the locker room.
