Washington's most pressing needs....

January 22, 2012 7:51 pm

#1: QB. No surprise here. Flynn, RGIII, That 29 Yr old draft prospect from OkSt in a later round? One thing's for certain, The Redskin's shouldn't feel comfortable entering the start of the 2012 season w/ Grossman and Beck as their only options at QB.

#2: OL. C,G,T One of each should solidify the line for years. We need to stop trying to find diamonds in the rough and spend high draft picks on elite OT's.  Two in 10 years is not frequent enough to use a 1st or 2nd rounder on offensive line help.

#3. WR. This has been an area of need for the last few years, still yet to be addressed. Moss is approaching that "wall".

The QB is Weeden

Agree agree agree...... Good FA or high draft pick needs to be done

I think WR is one of those positions best addressed in FA. There are plenty this year and WR usually take a few years to reach their potential wherea FA is already there.

regarding rookie WR's vs. veteran  help, I agree that it takes a long time for a return on the investment in drafting a WR prospect, but drafting a sure fire stud like other teams have in the past can yield immediate returns. it's not as though those types of players are plentiful, last years draft had two such players, this years guy looks like Blackmon.

If i had my way we'd sign Flynn and draft blackmon, but i don't run the team.

Can we seriously keep all of these on one thread?  It's annoying.... 50 different threads on the damn offseason priorities.

Why?  This board is all bored right now.  We get to watch the Giants or the Cheaters win the superbowl...and then more of the same draft predictions/offseason moves, etc.   That's what we get for being fans of a non-playoff team :-/.

lol, this is funny, though it's not true.  I think everyone just wants to start their own thread... I just lose track of where I or one of you guys posted something after an intense "four thread" bender for a few hours.

Gotta love the offseason.

BTW, 81 HOF, your boy Weeden was showing off that elite arm strength in the Senior Bowl today.  You think Shanny talked him into bombing those two throws?

I am all about taking the kid if it's in the 2nd round or later, and we have a guy like Peyton Manning to start ahead of him.

Manning will go to the Jets if anywhere. He's old by NFL standards and has had 3 neck injuries. He got paid 22 million last year to walk the sidelines and is due 28 million in March. With a new management in the front office, Manning is gone. Like I said. He won't be coming here.

Unless he really does become the it guy at the combines you should be able to get hiim in the 4th round or certainly no earlier than the 3rd. He is only about the 8th rated prospect right now I think. Everyone remembers Weinke and thinks this kid may be the same.

Nick Fowles looked pretty good though didn't he? He may also work his way up in to the late 1st round if he shows at the combines and pro days.

ASU quarterback Brock Osweiler's decision makes more sense

Brock Osweiler a first-rounder? - Pac-12 Blog - ESPN

Early 2nd round?

Or Ryan Tannehall.  If he's there. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #222222; line-height: 15px; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">

I like Osweiller a lot, but he is a project I think. If I were Cleveland, because they already have Colt, this would be my pick with either their second pick in the first, or the 2nd round. Either place would be high to take him, but they have an extra pick, and he could end up being the steal of the draft in 2013 or so. I wrote a long post on the QB's but when I posted it, it disappeared and I was too lazy to write it again, but I will do it again some time this week and save it.

In short though, I think long term he is no worse than the 3rd best QB in the draft, and maybe even higher. He has that much talent, size and athleticism. I just don't think he is ready to run an NFL team now, and most of the teams looking to draft a QB early are doing so because they need one now.

I do have to qualify my comments on him though. I am ASU alum. Itry not to let it influence me, but like DofC is with ND, I am a little biased. He is a beast though. Against my heart I have to say the UofA QB would probably be the more ready of the two to play quickly due to his experience and ability to go through all his reads.

if "I" were the Browns, my first pick in the 1st round depends on what's there and if Hillis is staying. if Hillis stays then forget about Richardson. if he leaves then he should be the pick UNLESS another player is on the board. if i am the Browns my draft board when they pick is this 1) Blackmon (he will make McCoy better and the other WRs better), 2) Richardson (if Hillis leaves) and/or Coples (if Hillis stays, the Browns need a pass rusher) and i would use the 2nd pick on either WR (if Blackmon isnt the pick) or a DE then in round 2 get Osweiller and have him backup and push McCoy with Seneca Wallace also in on the mix.
Manning will go to the Jets if anywhere
i disagree. if Manning leaves and plays, i see him likely either in Miami or another team with a need at QB, the Jets dont make sense because 1) Ryan is still committed to Sanchez and 2) why would Manning want to go there???
The QB is Weeden
i say avoid Weeden, i dont like him too much and fear that he could be a little better version of Weinke, but that's it, i dont think he will be much in the NFL.
#1: QB. No surprise here. Flynn, RGIII, That 29 Yr old draft prospect from OkSt in a later round?
i agree with Flynn and RG3, PLEASE dont get Weeden!!!! i rather start Aaron Corp than see Weeden here, anyways, i agree QB is the biggest need.
#2: OL. C,G,T One of each should solidify the line for years. We need to stop trying to find diamonds in the rough and spend high draft picks on elite OT's.  Two in 10 years is not frequent enough to use a 1st or 2nd rounder on offensive line help.
ok, let me fix this, we have a decent center and just need to re-sign him to a long term deal, the tackles arent awful, just get another one for depth, same with guards, i would sign another guard to likely start and have Chester as a backup role.
#3. WR. This has been an area of need for the last few years, still yet to be addressed. Moss is approaching that "wall".
i still guess that we sign either Jackson or Edwards, though personally i would love it if we got Steve Smith and Anthony Gonzalez. i like Hankerson's potential, Moss can still go, Gaffney isnt bad and if we added both Smith and Gonzalez, then whoever the QB is will have a good WR corps.

but in my book, the 2nd biggest need isnt OL or WR, it's CB. Hall is burnt toast and needs to go, i hope we sign Aaron Ross or Terrell Thomas, JUST pick one of those Giants!!!! and if we get them and then sign another corner to backup, then the cornerbacks should play better.

why do you want Steve Smith and Anthony Gonzalez so much?

Steve Smith couldn't even beat out Jason Avant and Anthony Gonzalez has hardly seen the field because he is always injured.  To be honest those 2 guys would be the last 2 FA WR's I would want.

why do you want Steve Smith and Anthony Gonzalez so much?
because both have potential and we dont really need a number one WR just yet, people keep saying Bowe, but he will NOT leave KC, some say Meachem, but i see him in Philly (replacing DeSean Jackson). i think Gonzalez when healthy is underrated and Steve Smith wasnt a good fit in Philly, but i think he will be better here.
To be honest those 2 guys would be the last 2 FA WR's I would want
So you rather have Reggie Wayne (not worth it), Vincent Jackson (not me, i dont know what will happen to him without Rivers), Ted Ginn, Roy Williams over these guys??? you already said these are the LAST 2 you want so i guess you rather have Roy Williams and Ted Ginn, i personally dont and i dont want Wayne or Vincent Jackson. if we do get a Jackson, rather get DeSean because at least he played against the Eagles and at least he's a proven playmaker with different QBs, but it's like i said 1000 times, "I" want them, but do we get them, NO!!! we will likely sign either Floyd or Vincent Jackson (ok with Floyd, NOT ok with Jackson) and sign some other WR.

Qb, wr,rbs, te, ol, dl, lbs,cbs and safeties.  Might as well add kicker, punter and Coach.  That about sums it up.  Looking forward to another "illustrious" year by the Redskins.  Can you say cellar dwellers.........the usual!

i like them both too, but I think only sign 1 of them.  Lets see if Keonard hankerson or Niles Paul can be the big WR and then we can have smaller guys that can lead to a quick passing game

screw it sign both Steve Smith was a great possesion guy with the Giants

people keep saying Bowe, but he will NOT leave KC,
i don't get bowe not worth what i think he will cost

Vincent Jackson (not me, i dont know what will happen to him without Rivers),
i like V-jax but again what is the point of paying big for a WR when you don't have a QB
