What if Poe AND Kirkpatrick are gone...?

January 23, 2012 11:52 am

We were discussing this elsewhere, but I thought it merited its own thread.

Interesting article below that was linked to ProFootballTalk. It was posted Friday (I think) from the Sporting News, and it has both Dre Kirkpatrick AND Dontari Poe off the board by the time Dallas makes its pick at #14.  The writer has Dallas taking OLB Zach Brown of North Carolina.

A little about Brown (from Pro Football Weekly):  "An exceptionally gifted, undersized, finesse "Will" linebacker, Brown looks every bit the part and has rare speed with natural bend and safety-like ease of movement. Ranges sideline to sideline and is outstanding in coverage — drops effortlessly and is flexible, agile and sudden to shadow. Is a slam-dunk lottery selection on measurables and workout ability but does not exhibit an aggressive temperament and intensity leaves something to be desired. Is not physical at the point and too often relies on the cavalry to tackle. Has yet to adopt a professional approach to the game, has a fragile psyche and trust issues and the interview process might go a long way in determining his ultimate draft value."

Based on this evaluation, I'm not sure Brown is the guy I'd go after. The athleticism and speed are great, but he's way small for an LB, especially a 3-4 LB (he played at 225, is now at 230). Plus, I really don't like hearing questions about aggresiveness, intensity, and "fragile psyche."

personally im hoping for the guard from stanford decastro. i would really like to see us continue to improve the oline. we've got a seemingly franchise guy in Tyron Smith and and good tackle in Doug Free. i think we need to continue with that.

I'm with you. If Kirkpatrick AND Poe are off the board, to me it's a no-brainer to take DeCastro. depending on what might be accomplished in free agency, I'm not sure I wouldn't take DeCAstro anyway.

yea free agency will definitly play in a role in the draft obviously. dont know much about the other 2 guys. im always hesitant about drafting dbs, we havent had very much success with that even with the jenkins verdict still being out. if poe is what people are saying i also wouldent be upset with that. we need a Vince Wilfork type guy in the middle. we all saw how big of a difference he made yesterday. ratliff just isnt built to be a nt.

I would do Decastro(which makes me cringe when picking a guard in the first round) but apparently Decastro is being hailed as the next Steve Hutchinson.  Either him or Courtney Upshaw and maybe even Melvin Ingram.

Doesnt this sound exactly like Bruce Carter?  I don't think we would be taking him at the 14th spot.

Almost to a T, yeah it does.

I think Carter brings some exceptional traits to the table, and every team needs guys like that. But teams also need tough, blue-collar, no-nonsense guys -- and Dallas doesn't have enough of them.  I don't think we need another smallish, fast, "finesse" linebacker.

One of the things we should be looking in a draft prospect's resume are descriptions like "aggressive," "tenacious," "fiery," "vocal leader," non-stop motor."

I KNOW I'd take DeCastro if he's there.  Heck, I'd be happy with the Eagles taking him.  We prolly won't (we have more pressing needs), but I would NOT be peeved if we did.

For Dallas, DeCastro and Smith would make a YOUNG, POWERFUL, ELITE left side of the offensive line.  Romo's left-side worries basically disappear and running the ball to the left for whomever is running the rock just got easier.  Both are athletic lineman too, SO SCREENS (old-style like Philly ran with Westbrook) would absolutely be plausible plays at any time and in any situation.  And the magic is these guys would get to grow up together--CHEMISTRY.  I'll buy that for a dollar.

DeCastro definitely seems to be a blue-chip prospect. Like the Birds, though, there are probably more pressing needs for Dallas than an interior lineman. But we're in a position where we can't just grab a certain player at position "X" if that player isn't worth taking at that spot.

Nope, easier said than done.  Who wants this pick?  It's too far outta the top talent, and too close to the front to "reach" on a pick.. This pick, middle of the pack, truely sucks.  Only way we trade it, is if a team wants to get back into the first round for a WR, etc, that slipped out of the top 10 due to this or that.  Could happen on any other position, just used that as an example.  Maybe someone wants to trade up and draft the toker, Wink.

Also - we won't have ANY offers until 10 picks are off the board, at the earliest.  Unless some crazy trade happed for a player we need, I wouldn't mind parting with it, if its going to patch the secondary or D-line.

PADAK someone else would take Castro at that pick probably not as difficult as you might think it is....and it would give us other picks to fill serious needs....if both Kirkpatrick and a premier pass rusing OLB/DE is off the board..14 is way to soon to draft POE and yes i like Poe ....alot..

What we really need is for Blu-Tool/Tru-Blu-ballz to come on here and tell us how we should mortgage the 2012 draft by trading vritually everything to get RG3...then trade whatever we have left and all of 2013's draft picks to get back into the top 5 and take Justin Blackmon.

Oh God Axe lets not start that.........i already notice that sonnybone head posted some stupid thread earlier i surprised he had the balls to even come on here and post after everything went exactly how i stated it would about the lock out and having cap issues and he just looks like a fool....you know especially after posted under a half dozen other ID's to agree with himself...the pyscho....

i was hopeing we are over that fighting with stupid people...i believe everyone has a right to an opinion but to continually push a wrong opinion on people and then agree with under other ID's is just sick....you think?

Trade down for more picks and RELOAD!  I wouldnt mind getting down in the 20's and see them taking that Center out of Wisc. Konz.  Then in 2nd round take that DB out of Virginia and DE Jared Crick out of Nebraska....he is a beast but got hurt halfway in season.  THose 3 picks would makes us better already.

Don't count on it. Sure as the sun will rise in the East, guys like Blu-Tool will come around and spout their particular brand of inanity.

but to continually push a wrong opinion on people and then agree with under other ID's is just sick....you think?

-------

Don't know if it's sick, but it's pretty pathetic. You need to create multiple IDs so it looks like there a number of people who agree with you...?  I mean, who are you trying to kid?

It's just soooo needy.
