You are not the only one who sees that they do not block out. The majority of the problem is that the Plumlees' are having to help defend way too often. When a guard gets smoked, he shouldn't just become a spectator, he should find an opposing player and put his rear in his thigh. Yes, that is textbook defense. Like redseat said, it is called blocking out!
I am glad someone else see's this! Duke's guards SUCK and defending and it pulls the Plumlee's and Kelly out of the paint, which leaves it WIDE OPEN! Duke used to play great all around defense and right now it seems like MAYBE ONE PLAYER at a time plays great defense while the only 4 players just stand there and look like a deer in a headlight and expect said player to do everything. Coach K needs to rip these guys a new one!!

I have to agree with the OP, this team is not as good defensively as Duke teams in the past. Not exactly sure why, other than the Plumlee brothers seem to go to sleep for stretches. I wouldn't worry though, Coach K tends to turn it on during ACC tournament time and I wouldn't be surprised to see Duke winning the tournament again this year.
Hey Gnat. Duke is at a very low ebb right now. There is bad defense and a lot of standing around on offense. Duke is also shooting bad at stretches. When you do that and play bad defense you get in a hole like Duke did against Miami. The other thing is free throws. It reared it's ugly head again. Until they start playing TEAM defense and hitting free throws they will lose a bunch more games. They are very vulnerable right now.

Come on STLOU02, its not Duke's fault that the polls have them so high. For one, other teams lose along the way and they have played the country's toughest schedule (or its right up there). Of course the reputation of Coach K and Duke play into the rankings. Its a respect thing. But what is so unusual about that - it happens in every sport with teams that have a tradition of excellence. If you were to poll Duke fans, I bet Dukies would agree they are overated and probably won't get past the Sweet Sixteen. Lighten up.
